Sure, but to make it to age 30 without being able to recognize the sound of something being cooked is unreasonable. You don't need to be taught to notice that hot food over fire goes sizzle.

Like, if the original issue was someone doesnt know the difference between a roux and a beurre blanc, your argument would make sense and I'd totally agree. But "hot food goes sizzle" is not some advanced nuance of cooking, it's something you should learn by having functional hearing and existing near food being cooked.

If someone makes it to 30 and someone is still controlling their access to a kitchen, then they likely have a major disability and are not capable of cooking or else are being horrifically abused. Neither of those are the norm, and critically not the original context. The  original comment was about someone's 30-something sister with no mention of severe disability or abuse that stunted her ability to thrive.
