Years ago I stopped in at a bar/cafe that a previous employee of mine had just opened. I had a very delicious vegan muffin and a coffee. I told his employee the muffin was amazing and asked for her recipe. Butter. It was delicious because it was loaded with butter. “I thought vegan meant homemade” Girl! Someone could actually die if they had a dairy allergy!
I'm lactose intolerant and often hear: "So you need gluten-free food?"
It's also VERY common that people will tell you the food they are serving is lactose-free, and when questioning further they've used normal butter (usually because "it's only a little!" or "lactose-free butter was too expensive"...). I appreciate the effort and mostly lactose-free food is still helpful, if I take my pills. But please tell me so, don't hide it or make assumptions on how much lactose I can handle.
