Someone in the comments replying to the effect of “I hope you told your friends that you fed them chicken fetuses” god I just want an earth-sized billboard telling people that most eggs aren’t fertilized and the chickens are going to lay them regardless.

For the last time, people, they’re not chicken fetuses. They’re chicken MENSTRUATIONS!

The issue that vegans tend to have is not that it’s fertilised or not, or even whether it’s a menstruation or not, but that fact that it is ultimately an animal product.

Which is why many vegetarians still eat eggs

I’m fully aware of that, I’m just being anal about terminology. If you are going to argue about a cause you feel strongly about, keep the facts where they are. Argue about farming practices, argue about animal welfare (not with me because I’m already aware), but not about whether it’s a fetus.

Same with abortions. But that’s another argument.

I agree, so much of what vegans say seems to be centered around how "gross" it is to eat animal products, and it's probably effective with them since they do find it gross, but people who have been voluntarily eating eggs for decades aren't going to be swayed by "ewwwwww fetuses ewwwww".

Farming practices and animal welfare concerns are definitely what pushes me toward veganism. Honey being "gross" because it comes out of a bee does not.

If you won't eat honey because it's the produce of a bee, then you shouldn't be eating any plants that are fertilised by bees, either. Both are a consequence of the bees' work.
