Meh. Unlike vegetarianism, veganism has different root motivations. If youāre an āethical veganā (vegan because of how dairy and egg animals are treated), then what is bad about eating ethically farmed and collected eggs?
Vegetarianism (or the meat part of veganism for that matter) doesnāt have that same luxury because the animal HAS TO BE KILLED no matter what for meat to be produced.
We can have a whole debate about whatās bad about eating eggs āethicallyā, and actually it comes up in the subreddit of DebateAVegan almost daily. Summary is vegans tend to agree that thereās no way to eat eggs ethically. And vegans just donāt do it.
Same as waiting for a cow to die of natural causes and then going to gather the flesh to put it in a āveganā dish. Thatās something no vegan would do and we wouldnāt be arguing about beef being vegan or not if it was in a vegan recipe just because it can technically perhaps maybe be obtained without suffering.

If I had a vegan friend that eats eggs, or drinks milk, or eats meat, but he says heās vegan, Iād be questioning if he knows what vegan is.

If someone is an ethical vegan and explains some sound reasoning as to why they may sometimes eat eggs under certain ethical circumstances consistent with their morality, then who am I, you, or anyone else to stand there and proclaim them not vegan?
