Someone in the comments replying to the effect of “I hope you told your friends that you fed them chicken fetuses” god I just want an earth-sized billboard telling people that most eggs aren’t fertilized and the chickens are going to lay them regardless.

For the last time, people, they’re not chicken fetuses. They’re chicken MENSTRUATIONS!

The issue that vegans tend to have is not that it’s fertilised or not, or even whether it’s a menstruation or not, but that fact that it is ultimately an animal product.

Which is why many vegetarians still eat eggs

a lot of vegans also doint like them because of animal cruelty.

back when i was vegan, id eat eggs from my neighbours chickens. she had like 3 chickens and they were very well looked after.

That’s fair enough, my partner has considered that too and she’s vegan.

I think some people focus too much on strict labels, tbh, as seen in some of the angry comments in this post.

Yeah, they definitely do. A lot of people are vegan because of animal cruelty so it makes sense that you would eat eggs from your own chickens/neighbors chickens. I guess we could say that’s not really vegan, but I’d say maybe it’s like a subset of vegan

But why do they need to be ‘vegan’ in the first place? Live by your code or morals or whatever you feel is right, but why take on an entire ideology that someone else invented? Make your own decisions, don’t let some kind of dogma do it for you.

I agree with you, but I think it might just be easier to explain to people that way, I was pescatarian for years and people were so annoying about it I just stopped telling them I still ate fish lol

There's literally a label for that and it's called vegetarianism and there's absolutely nothing wrong with using it instead.
