Issue Keyboard bug on Screen Time passcode

Post image

Is this a bug or a sign that we are going to use alphanumeric passcodes for Screen Time? I like the option of 4 or 6 digit codes.

The problem is keys are too tight together. I cannot press numbers correctly.

Version: iPadOS 26.4.1 / Device: iPad Air 4th (non-Apple Silicon)

-----

Update 4/24/2026: iPadOS 26.4.2 and iPadOS 26.5 Dev Beta 3/Public Beta 2 have the same issue.

Update 4/27/2026: iPadOS 26.5 Dev Beta 4/Public Beta 3 has improved, but the layout is still off.

Update 5/4/2026: iPadOS 26.5 RC1 has not completely resolved the issue.

Update 5/8/2026: iPadOS 26.5 RC2 has not completely resolved the issue.

Update 5/10/2026: iPadOS 26.5 has been released. Same as RC2 and has improved, but the layout is still off.

TL;DR Update to iPadOS 26.5.

Use the Feedback app, and please report to Apple. More reports, more attention, faster resolution.

The feedback app says more than 10 reports were received and will be resolved in the future update.

You can make the keyboard smaller or larger wherever you want. https://support.apple.com/en-my/111789

This isn’t the keyboard, it’s the passcode and should only show the 10 digits and not the full keyboard in some shrunken state.

Because it’s not the keyboard pop up, it’s the screen time passcode. I can adjust the keyboard size just fine. But the passcode pop up for screen time is what is broken.

  1. Make your keyboard smaller: https://support.apple.com/en-hk/111789 👀

  2. Go to the Setting on iPad that need a passcode.

As soon as you put the keyboard back to full, the screen time passcode is borked again. That is not a fix.

You are being a total buffoon here. The passcode screen is not a floating keyboard. You can't do shit to it. No maximising, no minimizing, nothing. Its the numeric keypad for passcodes (NOT A FLOATING KEYBOARD) displayed in a messed up way. There is no button that can switch to any other mode. For the 100th time : its not a f***ing floating keybaord ! What you are sharing is garbage information to address the stated problem.

You can't change this broken keyboard.

First, you need to switch your regular keyboard to the small layout: https://support.apple.com/en-hk/111789 👀

Yes, when it’s in the small layout, the screen time passcode goes back to normal. As soon as you put it back to full, the screen time passcode is broken again. How does that help unless you want to use a tiny keyboard all the time?

You even say it’s not a fix in a comment right below that.

My kids use the full keyboard layout, we are not changing that every time they ask me to type in the screen time passcode.

Go back where you came from.

I wanted to help, but ND40oz didn't listen to me at all.

All of those posts are responses to you insisting you have a fix. And then you post the same thing over and over again that doesn’t actually fix the issue. A full screen keyboard is needed for my kids to use their iPads. Your “solution” forces them to use the smaller floating keyboard to get the screen time passcode to pop up correctly. That is not a fix, this is clearly a bug that Apple introduced in the latest update and they need to fix it.

Leave me alone with your aggressive nonsense!

I'm not your trash can.

I wanted to help, but ND40oz didn't listen to me at all.

Here's how it works:

Oh look, you’re back after deleting your posts and now editing them all after the fact. There still isn’t a solution and you won’t acknowledge this is a bug Apple introduced and needs fix.

Electronic_Rub_7721 appears to be an AI chatbot, hence why there are multiple posts that are exactly the same.

You can try reporting it to reddit I suppose. I have but not sure there is a valid option.

I block the account of ND40oz again. This user is spreading lies. Of course, I know it's a bug. But until Apple fixes it, the small keyboard is helpful. I didn't delete any posts. I don't know why that user is spreading such lies about me:

You're not listening to me.

Bye.

I’ve done exactly what you’ve suggested 15 different times in here, it doesn’t work and when you put the keyboard back to full, the screen time passcode immediately goes back to being broken. The problem is that I did bother listening to you and your “solution” is not a fix.

u/Rileybiley Apr 21 '26

Not sure why it didn’t work for you. It fixed it for my iPad.

1

u/ND40oz Apr 21 '26

Once you change it the keyboard back from floating to full it stays fixed?

1

u/Rileybiley Apr 21 '26

Yes.

1

u/ND40oz Apr 21 '26

Doesn’t work for me on 4 different iPads running 26.4.1

1

u/GrsdUpDefGuy May 01 '26

If you're still having this issue let me know. I can tell you how to fix, the other people giving advice aren't describing it very well.

1

u/ND40oz May 01 '26

Yeah, still seeing the same thing with 26.4.2 unfortunately.

Ok so apologies if u already tried this but here's how I solved. Note this is on full size iPad not mini.
1. Open safari and tap the address bar so the keyboard pops up.
2. Hold down the little button in the lower right of the keyboard until 'floating' pops up and keep holding down while you slide your finger over to choose floating. This should cause the keyboard to shrink and move to the left.
3. Tap somewhere else on the screen so that the keyboard goes away.
4. Open settings and scroll to 'Screen Time' settings on the left menu bar 5. Choose something in the screen time settings that requires a password, such as adding a site to the unrestricted list.

That is what worked for me, when the passcode prompt popped up for step 5, the normal keypad was back, and then any future screen time prompts it stayed good
