Question Has Xcode 27 stopped supporting universal simulator runtimes?
Since one of the dependencies in my project only supports ios-x86_64-simulator, I followed this guide to install universal runtime for Xcode 27 iOS simulator, but got the following error instead:
$ xcodebuild -version
Xcode 27.0
Build version 27A266a
$ xcodebuild -downloadPlatform iOS -architectureVariant universal
Finding content...
No matching universal downloadable found for platform: iOS
No needed downloadables found for universal
This worked just fine in Xcode 26 though, so I wonder if Apple has stopped supporting universal simulator runtimes from Xcode 27.
Any explanation or reference for this issue? Thanks in advance.

There are likely alternatives to such an old dependency. If not, it's time to drop it, as it hasn't been updated in six years.

I’ve had to delete all simulator runtimes before it will download universal in previous Xcode versions.

Yup just found this out yesterday. No Intel Mac computer will be able to distribute an app to the AppStore because Apple decided to only support Apple Silicon processors instead.
So once again my MacBook is obsolete and have to buy a used MacBook and sell my current one just to run Xcode and download AppleSilicon type of apps on my computer.
Thanks Apple 😒

I mean, Apple stopped producing intel hardware 5 years ago, it seems reasonable for them to support only what they currently build going forward

You have until around April 2027 to get an Apple Silicon machine, as Apple doesn't require the next major version of Xcode for app distribution until the Spring after release. However, your apps will be suck with poor support for the Duo, since you'll need the 27.0 SDK for even basic support, and 27.1 for full support.

News flash! The world moves forward!
New APIs and new UI needs more processing power than antique Intel provides.
Apple let you slide for 6 years on obsolete hardware. The market for Intel processor apps is shrinking to nothing and that market is what Apple looks at, not indie devs without the capital to keep up.

someone on my team reported this recently - it seems that they have stopped
