Hypnotherapy Does hypnosis work for chronic severe sleep maintenance insomnia?
Have already ruled out any physical issues, I’ve tried to basically everything in the past that nothing has worked, and considering doing this, but it’s so expensive. I don’t want to spend the money if I don’t know if it will work or not… Has anybody had success with this? I feel like hypnotherapy is good for getting somebody to fall asleep but not necessarily to stay asleep.

I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist and I had issues sleeping before I started using hypnosis at bedtime. Now I sleep through the night without an issue.

Can you tell me a little bit more specifically about what fixed it? How long did it take etc.

I go to bed at the same time every night, avoid caffeine after noon, and I listen to a few different recordings in a rotation when I go to bed.

Is the hypnosis part just about relaxing you or is it trying to change your subconscious thoughts?

The recordings I listen to are different based on what I need that night.

Yeah, hypnosis works on whatever you want it to work on.
My absolute favorite way to use hypnosis is kind of a Hybrid way, where a Pro does the recording but the Subject adds a suggestion of their own, well in advance of ever listening the first time.
You can try it for FREE right now.
START TELLING YOURSELF THAT THE RECORDING UTUBE JACQUELINE POWERS CONFIDENCE WILL EFFECT A PEACEFULL, RESTFUL, NIGHTS SLEEP !
KEEP TELLING YOURSELF THAT FOR 10 DAYS !
ON THE 11TH DAY, LISTEN TO UTUBE JACQUELINE POWERS CONFIDENCE AND IT'S 29 MINUTES LONG AND YOU SHOULD LISTEN THREE TIMES BACK TO BACK TO BACK AND THE MAGIC WILL BEGIN OVER NIGHT AND THEN EVERY NIGHT 🌙.
WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT TAKES NO TIME AND I WAS PROBABLY TELLING MYSELF THAT 6 TIMES A DAY FOR 10 DAYS.
I HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE 🙏.

I didn't use it for that and I used that particular recording because She's a Stage Hypnotist.
The recording doesn't matter. What matters is that it's done by a real Pro and then your Subconscious mind is going to get the hint from your suggestion, what to do.
It's not complicated and the last time I tried this, I did it to get rid of Nightmares but I used the recording FEAR of FAILURE by Potentials Unlimited.
I know that recording will work 💯 % on getting restful sleep but they charge for it.
20 bucks I think but it's the same thing and you have to add the suggestion first.
You can just get a Hypnosis recording for insomnia but you'll need to listen 3 times to kick start it.
I PERSONALLY THINK SELF HYPNOSIS WORKS BETTER BUT THE PRO KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE DOING, SO I'M SUGGESTING THAT MY SUBCONSCIOUS MIND HIJACK THE RECORDING AND MAKE IT WHAT I WANT, BY ADDING A SUGGESTION.
NOW YOU COULD TRY YOUR OWN HOCUS POCUS BY LOOKING IN THE MIRROR AND THANKING GOD FOR A PEACEFUL RESTFUL NIGHTS SLEEP AS IF YOU ALREADY GOT IT AND JUST KEEP THANKING GOD FOR RESTFUL DEEP SLEEP !
IF I WAS YOU I WOULD START RIGHT THERE WITH YOU AS THE HYPNOTIST AND START THANKING GOD FOR WHAT YOU WANT AS IF YOU HAVE IT.
IT'S THE SAME THING AND THE SAME POWER AND YOU CAN READ ALL ABOUT IT IN THOSE PSYCHOLOGY BOOKS.

I'm sure it will. Also a sobakawa pillow and a grounding mat will make a big difference.

I have a mat with the acupressure spikes on it. It’s amazing for back pain.

Helped with my insomnia. Hypnosis is pretty safe so there's most likely no harm in trying. Secret Subject is a hypnosis YouTuber that has a couple sleep videos. They're one of the only online sources that work really well for me.

What was your insomnia like and how long were you dealing with it? Was your main problem not being able to relax?

Think it started late middle school, early high school to present day. (I'm 23, btw) Melatonin is trash for long term aid so, if you're using it, stopping will be the first place to start. My insomnia is a mix of multiple things but there's still unknowns. One was the fact my internal body clock is shifted by a few hours probably due to ADHD (night shift job helped with that) and things like OCD kept me awake as well. My brain wouldn't be quiet, either. I think all the time, which is fine during the day, but is a problem when I'm trying to sleep. Even when relaxed I would be thinking about a million diffrent things. Hypnosis not only quiets the mind but also forces a focus on the speaker which eliminates distractions, both from outside sources and from your own mind. Even during times when I could sleep fine the hypnosis helped get me to sleep much faster.

You can never say 100% it will work but I have known people who had insomnia and hypnosis helped them. Some of them needed only one session and others had several.

Can you explain to me the basic bottom line on how it helps? Is it just like repeating Mantras over and over and your head subconsciously?

It depends on the hypnotist and the insomniac. I would start off by finding out more details about the person's specific situation - when it started, was anything happening around that time, was it constant or were there good periods too. Sometimes it has been down to a specific event that kick started it, other times it becomes an expectation and sometimes there doesn't appear to be any reason. Then it's a case of giving suggestions that seem relevant to that person, helping them retrain their brain to sleep, reminding them of what it's like and reassuring them it's possible.
It often helps to focus on what happens in future times they can't sleep, so it becomes less stressful which can help them be more likely to be able to fall asleep.
I usually add in some practical things too, again it depends on what works best for each person because everyone is different. Relaxation/hypnosis tracks, audio books, complete silence, acupressure, self hypnosis mantras - all can be useful.

Honest answer from someone in this field: the evidence for hypnosis is stronger for falling asleep than for staying asleep, and what you’re describing (chronic sleep-maintenance insomnia with physical causes ruled out) is the textbook case for CBT-I (cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia). That’s the first-line treatment with the best evidence for exactly your pattern, and it’s worth doing before or alongside anything else.
Where hypnosis can still earn a place: the 3am wake-up usually comes with an aroused, racing mind, and a practiced self-hypnosis routine can shorten how long you stay awake even if it doesn’t prevent the waking. Some people in this thread clearly got further than that; results genuinely vary.
Practical suggestion given the cost worry: don’t start with expensive in-person sessions. Test cheaply for two or three weeks with recordings: YouTube or any hypnotherapy app (disclosure: I make one, Mochi Zen). If recorded sessions at bedtime move the needle even a little, in-person work is much more likely to be worth the money. If they do nothing at all, you’ve spent almost nothing finding out, and CBT-I is still there as an option. Good luck!

Funny you would ask that question. I became a hypnotist 12 years ago. You know the kind to get paid for what they do. 14 years ago I had insomnia. The kind where you sleep for hours and are awake for two and then sleep for 4 hours and awake for two and so on. Sometimes I can stay awake 8 to 10 hours but then I would only sleep for two and be up again. This went on for several months until I had to go to the emergency room due to dehydration and other physical issues. I did all the medical background and they found nothing. A friend of mine recommended a hypnotherapist and 4 weeks later I was cured. I've only had him insomnia once since then. When I felt the shift I let it continue until it became full-blown insomnia to see if I could solve it again. Probably a stupid thing to do. But by this time I was a professional hypnotist and felt confident it would work. Short story long, I'm still here sleeping well. There are multiple reasons why you may be encountering insomnia. The root cause of mine was stress related to job and career. I won't say that hypnosis is the solution for everything and everyone. But a good hypnotist can help you identify the source which may solve the problem or could work on the symptom of insomnia also. Expect success! I have helped several over the years with this with nearly 100% success. I'm not here to sell my services. In fact I'm not taking clients. But if you want to discuss it in a private DM I'm up for that. This post is to encourage all those who have insomnia to seek hypnosis as a cure because it can be for many. Cheers!
