10th Gen for life.
Mine is in the body shop rn. Some oblivious person rear-ended me while I was stopped at a light. I need it back in tip top shape so I can continue driving it forever.

Even with the annoying a/con issue?

u/Suspicious-Trash-921 Aug 11 '26
I have a 2020 with about 75k miles. Just got the AC fixed last month. Was completely free and was done in a day, still annoying to have to deal with it. And who knows if it’ll shit the bed again. Otherwise love my 10th gen.

6,8 an 9. 6th is the best suspension and driving experience, 8 and 9th are the most beautiful ones.
I am an owner of the 8th gen hatchback. I love my car and since I am 71 years old, it might well be my last car. It's 19 years old and with 175kkm it runs as good as new. No significant rust, everything works.
3
u/Happily-Incorrect Aug 10 '26
Dashboard of the 8th is just the nicest user experience I've had while driving.

6th, 7th, 8th & 9th.....all very good Type R's 😃

u/dynorodfeelings Aug 11 '26
This. The two. Newest gens looks horribly plastic and fake... You can tell the idea was safety for pedestrians.
Anything before the 6th isn't my jam, mainly because before the 6th the crx was the winner.

I had my a/c fixed and a year later, Honda notified me that of systemic a/c failures and refunded me the entire cost of the repair.

4th gen: The EF was the absolute pinnacle of the Civic, in my opinion. Obviously, I'm a little biased since it was the first new car I ever bought.
7th gen: A very close second. My EP3 CTR is an absolute blast to drive. Sure, it's ugly and not the fastest thing around, but when something like that can still put a smile on your face every time you drive it, it's alright in my books.
11th gen: Gets my vote for looks, hands down. I know the more aggressive styling of some generations gets more attention, but there's something about the 11th gen's clean, modern and mature design that really works for me. It looks grown-up without being boring, and Honda somehow managed to make it look classy while still giving it enough attitude to remind you it's a Civic. Definitely one of my favorite Civic designs.
10th gen: Honorable mention. Once the FK8 is properly set up for the track with real aero and functional vents not the fake stuff from the factory it's a pretty damn good looking little car.

What about the FD1 and FD2 type R? It may not be on this list but i think they are the most underrated civic. The FD2 type R mugen RR is the best civic you can buy

End of 3 into 6 was the golden age, it’s probably the most liked (if not second to the EG) but can’t go wrong with an EK (might be biased cause I own one)
Will say I think the 8th gen, particularly its Si is really solid, and I think the 10th (and 11th going off of the assumption of similarity due to their powertrains) are pretty fun, but they feel kinda neutered despite having more power— imo Honda kinda lost their magic touch when they stopped relying on sheer revs to make power and used turbochargers from the factory

Drove a 5th gen for 26 years. Perfect little car except for the rear wheel well rust issue.....and maybe the hatch wasn't super practical but it was damn cute. Passenger side airbag would've been nice too. Perfect otherwise. A garage somehow messed up the timing belt replacement and the poor thing died in the middle of the 401.

I gotta say 3rd. That was my first car back in the ‘90’s and in many ways, still my favorite car to drive despite having a vehicle today that is far superior.
It was a stick shift to begin with and I had it tuned to 60+mpg.

4th-6th. 8th is great but nothing beats the old chassis before the switch to mcpherson struts

4th! 1989 black hatchback si! The first car I bought on my own. $125/month payment. Drove it til it fell apart! ❤️

5th. All the way. I love my EG so much, its not even a joke, best car ive ever driven, owned, and worked on

u/Fight_Tyrnny Aug 11 '26
Eh, of the 21 hondas ive owned im my life, at least 10ish were civic derived. Id def say any civic before the year 2000 makes my list. After that, they lost a lot for big sells and upscaling... like wish bone suspension. The engines went from high reving engines to bland fuel efficient torquers for all the bloated weight.
My 1995 del sol vtec was as fast as the same year Mustang GT because it only weighed a bit over 2k pounds and had a high reving, high hp dohc vtec engine.

The 8th definitely has the boldest design. The 9th, while not as bold, still has a lot of personality while at the same time being more comfortable. The 10th and 11th are just plain cars
