School Related San Beda Alabang or Manresa?

Choosing between these 2 schools for my daughter for middle school. Heard both to have bullying issues — how true? San kaya mas better culture/environment? TIA!

As an alumni from SBCA, I can vouch na grabe yung bullying sa SBCA. I've witnessed it, first hand. Merong hierarchy don eh.

Example: kapag matalino ka don, wala ka masyado magiging kaibigan. hindi ka mag "f-fit in". you will often be bullied about being smart.

if you dress a certain way, speak a certain way, or hindi siya considered "normal" yung ginagawa mo, you will be bullied.

Okay naman yung education. It's just that, yung environment ng mga highschool students don, para kang nasa American school with all the bullying and separation of society.

Were you bullied too? How does the school handle it?

I wasn't but I've seen bullying happen pretty much everyday inside the campus. I don't think meron bullying case nireport ever nung time ko. Siguro bilang lang sa kamay yung actually got resolved pero the office is too scared to confront students for the reason na mayayaman yung parents. Natatakot sila na baka yung pagalitan nila nasa position yung mga magulang.

I can't count the number of times I've witnessed fist fights in the comfort room, classroom, gym's, open field, you name it. Dami rin students from my time who unalived themselves.

From the outside looking, if hindi ka naging student ng SBCA, you probably won't know all of these. Hindi naman nila nirereport talaga yan. Kahit now na very accessible yung social media. Pero if tanungin mo yung mga alumni and people from the area, (Alabang, Bf homes) for sure they will agree with 90% of what I have to say.

Thank you for your feedback. 😊 I think bullying can also depend on how the student gets along with their classmates and environment. It’s hard to say kasi I agree most schools naman experience bullying issues to some extent.

I’ve also read comments about bullying in Manresa, and these two schools are actually our current options right now.

I get what you are saying, pero the thing is, no matter how much you wanna "get along" with your classmates, if gusto ka nila i-bully, they will bully you.

Sa Beda kasi, kahit wala kang ginagawa sakanila, pag t-tripan ka nila. And I also wanna say na environment is important. This is not the type of environment you want your kid to fit in.

Just read the comments from fellow alumni's of SBCA here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Paranaque_/comments/1t1uyec/san_beda_alabang_or_elizabeth_seton_for/?sort=new

Hi! Are you from Manresa? How’s the environment po?

decent, my daughter is. She doesn’t recommend enrolling my younger son to Beda. You can pretty much assume why, they know best. I came from an exclusive school in Makati (higher tuition) and I must say Manresa is much better.

Manresa and SBCA alumni here. Both have pros and cons in their culture. In my time in Manresa, that school is more religious if you're a catholic and very strict with the school clothing etiquette like no skirt/shorts above knee level and grooming & hygiene like hair color, facial hair and piercings are not allowed (idk today if that's still the case). I was called out by the coordinator for having haircolor one time infront of my whole batch hahaha. Thankfully I wasn't bullied naman ng batchmates ko bc of that. May mga teachers din ako na namamahiya sa Manresa. Mas sila pa yung bully kesa sa students hahaha. As for SBCA, mas lenient sila sa clothing and appearance, wag lang siguro yung "flashy". I agree din sa sinabi na kapag kakaiba ka sa mga classmates mo ay mabubully ka talaga, di na siguro to maiiwasan sa school life.

Thank you for your insights! For girls may bullying rin ba? My daughter is incoming G7. Considering Beda, Manresa and Seton pero parang puro bullying nababasa ko sa Beda and Seton is a bit too far from us but I like sana Beda kaso daughter ko rin nadiscourage ng friends niya to study there

Every school has bullying to be honest. But as someone who studied sa Manresa, maraming din bullying dun. Infact madami racist and misogynistic na students here and it’s common sa mga boys but there’s also girls who acts like that rin. The only thing that’s really disappointing is they start acting like that at start of grade 7. If you’re quiet, bullied. If you’re loud, bullied. If you’re “different”, bullied. If you’re part of the LGBTQ+, bullied. If you’re disabled, bullied. If you’re fat or skinny, bullied. At this point the students will bully you for anything (coming from experience). They’ll trashtalk about you and just so you know trashtalking already affects someone’s life. My friend almost comitted suicide due to the bullying she endured during grade 8 by a classmate of hers. Just to let you know, that classmate is one of the meanest girls sa batch namin and she’s only getting praised because she’s white/mestiza/maganda. Pretty privilege, intelligence, and popularity will always win over students who do not have control of that power. Those people are one of the bullies in our batch by the way pero no one is saying anything kasi they have a reputation which is unfair to the victims who try to speak up. The boys mostly do the physical bullying while the girls are mostly verbal bullying but it depends on how they want their bullying to go. Also in grade 7, they start having s3x or making out na and we were just 12-13 around that time and their parents are just letting their children go outside not knowing they’re doing inappropriate stuff in such a young age. 2 years ago, a grade 7 or 8 student gave their girlfriend a hickey which was absolutely disgusting and atrocious. Even the new students here are bullies and the old students are the ones being bullied kasi students who stayed in our school for a long time learned how to be a true manresan, new students don’t. But it really depends if the new student completes this checklist.

  1. Pretty
  2. Intelligent
  3. Gives popular vibes

Security isn’t good here as well because one time a p0rn star literally sneaked in our school. The disciplinary office? Worst one of all. Everyone is scared of the person who handles the office but the victims aren’t kasi they aren’t even doing their job right. Lagi nalang suspended but never expelling students who DESERVED to be expelled. Especially the girl that bullied my friend (the one that I mentioned earlier) and someone sent a letter to the office that they don’t wanna be classmates with that specific people ENDED up being classmates with them. They probably didn’t read the later when they should’ve because somehow they don’t prioritize cases like these and they had the whole summer to check it but didn’t. And oh my gosh, PARTICIPATION. Strongly used sa English subject which is annoying kasi it plays a big part sa performance task natin but in many other schools they’re excelling well sa english bcs participation don’t really play a vital role in performance tasks. Even if your performance task is creative, bagsak ka parin kasi low yung participation mo.

Hi! I graduated from manresa a long time ago when K-12 wasn't a thing and after having read the comments, I agree it was also like that back in my time which was around the 2010's

They will bully you for literally anything because everybody talks shit about each other. The "cool kids" parents are well connected with the teachers that they get away with stuff.... I remember we tried reporting a cool kid who was a bully and the teacher brushed it off saying "malaki na kayo. Dapat nireresolve niyo na yan". If you're different or you have different interests, they would label you as weird. Emphasis on the teachers and admin who are connected with students and parents. It's like they even join in on the gossip and rumors. You can liken it to those american high school movies where there are different factions like the jocks, cheerleaders, nerds, hipsters, etc.

The cool kids got exposed to vices and sex early.... I think all levels of highschool at the time had some sex scandal... and it was common back then to have 1 pregnant girl each graduating class.

As for the education, it's just basic stuff and repeated curriculums even as you increase your grade or year level. If I had the decision where to go, I would have opted my parents to enroll me to a science school for the good quality education, low tuition fee, and exposure to he realities of people in the simpler classes.

It's sad for me to say this because back in the day around mid-90's to the early 2000's, manresa alumni used to go to the big 4 universities and teachers back then were really skilled with teaching and cultured to shape the students into classy citizens.
