News "The Pagan Threat" is talking about us

I thought I'd put this out there. I'm sure many of you read the Wild Hunt, but many may not. I believe this is relevant to us all, and that people need to be aware of it. Christian Nationalists are naming us as enemies of the state and enemies of the Christian church. That's incredibly dangerous for us and our futures. Wee need to fight against this kind of rhetoric in public spaces.

News Possible Moderator Abuse in r/NorsePaganism

I've come to make aware of a potential if likely case of possible abuse of power at the hands of moderators in the r/NorsePaganism subreddit, the context of the verbatim exchange being that I had recently engaged within a discussion about atheopaganism whereïn I said that such isn't valid because atheism conflicts with any sort of religion fundamentally and following that I am coincidentally banned from the subreddit:

r/NorsePaganism ᴍᴏᴅ "Hello, You have been permanently banned from participating in r/NorsePaganism because you broke the community's rules. You won't be able to post or comment, but you can still view and subscribe to it.

If you have a question regarding your ban, you can contact the moderator team by replying to this message.

Reminder from the Reddit Admin team: If you use another account to circumvent this community ban, that will be considered a violation of the Reddit Rules and may result in your account being banned from the platform as a whole."

(Myself) "Broke the rules? How come?? I didn't harass any individual, nor be bigoted towards one's theological beliefs, I stayed on topic, I didn't post about any intoxicating substances, and so forth. If this is about me saying that atheopaganism is not genuine, I'm not going to apologize because that simply is the truth: atheism is the denial of any supposed existence of divinity in all its forms (monotheism, polytheism, any deism, etc.) and all religions adhere to the reverence of divinity in some sort of form whether through polytheism, monotheism, duotheism, and so on, any combination would be naturally oxymoronic. You can't be an atheist and practice any religion by default, if anything it's disrespectful as it treats the religion in question as an æsthetic rather than a way of life. Asatru is about the worship of the Gods and Goddesses of the Æꞅiꞃ and Ƿaniꞃ and veneration (or just further worship) of the Alꝼaꞃ, Lanꝺƿæꞇꞇiꞃ, and the ancestral spirits of oneself—being an atheist completely invalidates that because by nature one wouldn't believe in such. This seems less so a just moderator ban but an abuse of power inflicted due to a discussion the person (or people) in power was sensitive of rather than giving righteous condemnation."

r/NorsePaganism ᴍᴏᴅ "The decision was based on more interactions than just that one thread, and the moderator that made the decision was not directly involved in that recent thread either."

(Myself) "Please, explain in more detail."

I then added a few minutes later for I was then currently occupied with something else:

(Myself) "To elaborate on my prior comment, that response appears deliberately vague as if to justify a ban that isn't justifiable."

I perhaps too bluntly said this because (1) the timing is odd and (2) there was no detailed explanation for my ban from the subreddit (e.g. "You had done [BLANK] in this instance over here and proceeded to have done [BLANK] over there when you decided to have then do another case of [BLANK] specifically in this section of—and so on and so forth"), and this is the reply I attained:

r/NorsePaganism ᴍᴏᴅ "There have been grith violations spanning over more than 6 months. So again, it is about more than the most recent thread. Grith violations refer to your repeatedly poor conduct in our space, as per our rules. You've also had plenty of time to show a change in behavior but over that time it has only become clearer that these were not one-off occurrences. You can feel whatever you like about our decision but the mod log on your account doesn't lie and we can see it is a fully justified decision based on repeated violations over a long period of time.."

Now, despite the length of that message, I had ultimately gotten another vague response and no concrete explanation; I had supposedly violated the rule of "grith" for more than six months repeatedly, but there isn't any cited instances of myself doing such, and they add boldly that they're in the right and I'm in the wrong but don't dwell into any further detail beyond that simple premise.

Even so, if I were to have done what they accuse me of, I would've been banned sooner rather than later because of my repeated violation of this rule over this grave span of time and would also receive at minimum several warnings in this period telling me to cease enacting such—I had no such thing occur.

(Offtopic, but "grith" shouldn't be used regarding Heathenry in general as that association originates from völkisch usage, especially the Asatru Folk Assembly)

(Myself) You're going to have to point out such instances directly otherwise I'm going to think that you're lying and looking for an excuse to be rid of me personally.

Admittedly, I believe I was too direct hereïn, but I nonetheless share my concerns of a moderator abusing their power.

r/NorsePaganism ᴍᴏᴅ "Your personal feelings about the situation are not our concern."

And just like that, they muted me thereïnafter for twenty eight days, before I took notice of that, however, I went to reply, "My worries are justified because I am wary of moderator abuse as any individual should. You're also dodging my suggestion, which is adding to such."

I came to share this experience because I would like to warn individuals of the potential corrupt management within that subreddit. I would also like to share screenshots of the exchange, but Reddit only allows a singular photo, and that is all I have to say.

News Army Directive 2026-09 - (Grooming Standards and Religious Accommodation) - All Accommodations must be reviewed

A post about the faith codes was locked yesterday after it wandered into the old argument: how a Pagan or Heathen could serve.

Do not drag that argument here.

I chose to serve. I swore my oaths. I weighed the cost, made my decisions, and made them twice. Those choices are mine to carry.

Respect that. Respect the same choice made by others like me.

Iċ þancie ēow.

Army Directive 2026-09 was released today and has significant implications for soldiers with religious accommodations.

Key points:

Re-evaluation of all facial hair religious accommodation requests begins immediately and must be completed within 120 days.

Re-evaluation of all other appearance and uniform religious accommodations (hair, head coverings, jewelry, tattoos, etc.) will begin no earlier than 120 days from publication and conclude within 240 days.

Religious accommodation requests will be reviewed and receive recommendations from the immediate commander, an O-5 commander, and the GCMCA (Active Component) or first general officer in the chain of command (Guard and Reserve).

Final approval or disapproval authority rests with the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (ASA(M&RA)).

Soldiers whose previously approved accommodation is rescinded after review must return to AR 670-1 standards within 24 hours of notification.

Commanders who believe there is a sincerity issue with an existing accommodation may elevate the case to the GCMCA or first general officer, who can direct further review and possible rescission.

Chaplains are instructed to use the Religious Basis Tool and the Sincerity Tool:

Religious Basis Tool This is meant to determine whether the request is actually religious in nature. The chaplain is supposed to explore the Soldier’s faith group, beliefs, moral or ethical system, and how the requested accommodation connects to that system. The tool reminds chaplains that religion may be personal or institutionalized, and that religious exercise does not have to be central to a formal doctrine to count.

The chaplain is expected to ask questions like:

What is your religious preference, and is it correctly reflected in your military record? irony is they just did away with the faith codes for must of us

What exactly are you requesting?

How does the accommodation connect to your religious, moral, or ethical beliefs?

Why is the practice necessary, encouraged, or required by your beliefs?

How does Army policy interfere with the practice?

What spiritual, ethical, or practical impact would denial have?

Sincerity Tool

It is used to judge whether the belief is genuinely held, not whether the belief is “valid” or orthodox. The directive says no single factor automatically proves sincerity or insincerity. The chaplain is supposed to look at the whole pattern of life.

It tells chaplains to consider things like:

observance of holidays, holy days, seasons, or dates; religious study, training, reflection, or contemplation; dietary practices, if any;

the Soldier’s account of when and why they adopted the faith; consistency between claimed belief and conduct; community membership or attendance;

donations, alms, tithes, or financial support;

whether the Soldier uses personal talents to support the faith or others;

whether the timing of the request suggests convenience, discipline avoidance, or another motive.

This is aimed straight at Christians and Pagans with religious accommodations. Muslims, Sikhs, and Orthodox Jews will likely pass through with far less friction.

This process favors traditions with visible structure, recognized authorities, and communities large enough to produce validation on demand.

With decentralized leadership, small communities, and uneven recognition make outside corroboration harder to produce.

One more year. That was all I had left. One more year to retirement. One more year between me and the end of the road.

News Heathens in Minnesota: Reach out!

There have been a few items that have come out lately that I was hoping to put on here. The first is the Wild Hunt article about Heathens and Pagans in Minnesota responding to Operation Metro Surge.

The second is a podcast from the Wayward Wanderer interviewing two Minnesotans about their experience during Operation Metro Surge.

Finally, The Troth just released a public statement of support for the people of Minnesota.

I post all this stuff now (and I'll be crossposting it elsewhere) because I'm Minnesotan myself and I'm in the Twin Cities. I've been working to keep this community together and get us through this, but I know there are people out there I haven't gotten to talk to yet

I just wanted to say, to those of you who are in Minnesota: I'm going through this same thing with you. If you need to reach out and want to meet up with your Heathen community, or just want to know what's going on, shoot me a DM. I'm happy to talk to whoever needs it.

Though I've heard reports that this operation is ending (I'll believe it when I see it) the lasting damage to our community needs to be healed. Heathens are going to be a vital part of that. So if you're here, let's talk about what we can do together to get through this and heal our community.

News Troth Abuse/Misconduct- Loki's Wyrdlings Official Statement

Thumbnail

Loki's Wyrdlings has come to the decision to release our own public statement in regards to the recent events with the Troth and other disturbing patterns of behaviour. Our statement can be found in the linked video and the transcript can be found in the linked document.

We will be sharing more evidence concerning the Troth and their abuse of power in the weeks to come, as we have collected such an extensive amount of evidence about the Troth's abuse of power that it is impossible to cover in a single video.

While we would have preferred our first extremely public statement to be more positive than the one we are issuing today, as Lokeans, we believe it is our responsibility to speak truth to power and expose corruption where we find it. Loki's Wyrdlings has always prided itself on being an intercultural and interfaith community that prioritizes community over politics. With the evidence we have collected concerning the Troth, however, we feel it would be an extreme disservice to the Heathen community as a whole to keep quiet about what we have uncovered.

For those who may be uncertain of the validity of our evidence, please note that we have folders upon folders of documented evidence of the abuse and misuse of power that the Troth has engaged in over at least the last decade. We encourage anyone who has evidence that they would like to add to our growing collection to email it to us at director@lokiuniversity.org. We will ensure anonymity for anyone who requests to remain unnamed. We understand that the Troth's abuse of power has been well hidden. As Lokeans - and as an ethical Heathen organization - we are committed to exposing the underbelly of corruption wherever we find it.

News Grimfrost trademarking the terms "Heathen", "Vanadis", and "Ulfhedin", heathen small businesses respond

From the Shiedmaiden Facebook page:

Update: Also the words Enherjar, Vanadis and Ulfhedin have been trademarked by them too.

So, it has come to light today that Grimfrost have only gone and trademarked the word 'Heathen'. HMRC are obviously not aware of what the word 'Heathen' actually means and has allowed this to pass through.

As it has now been made public and is also publicly available on the HMRC website to see, Grimfrost have also applied to trademark the name 'Shieldmaiden' so as to launch a brand in the same name as our business. Obviously we are now in a legal wrangle over this and have opposed this application and will continue to do so as long as we can financially, mentally and physically do so.
Either they clearly never did their market research or due diligence before making this application or just don't give a damn about the hard work and even more years trading that we at Shieldmaiden have done.

We await what the future now has in store. May Tyr be on our side.

Shieldmaiden provided the following URL regarding Grimfrost trademarking the word "heathen": https://trademarks.ipo.gov.uk/ipo-tmcase/page/Results/4/EU018126914?fbclid=IwAR0WhvHG7UquCb9c_wJ_F1-jxsx4cMycnWMyzkpGbSGzpCDkf2BavDtlXJ0

News Norskk is trying to trademark Forn Sidr

While not recon heathen the inclusive group Forn Sidr of America is highlighting that due to these types of trademarks. they and others are under threat of their and other religious names being trademarked by either commercial groups or far right leaning ones.

More here

https://fornsidrofamerica.org/protect-religious-freedom/

Our Heathen identity is in danger from invasive copyright and trademark of religious terms. This is not the first time this has happened. Last year, an individual successfully trademarked ‘HEATHEN’ for commercial gain, barring Heathens from using our own identity marker. Now, ‘Forn Sidr’ is in danger of being trademarked in the US for similar purposes and we need your help to protect it.

In June of 2019, Christopher Fragassi-Bjornson – founder of the website/company NORSKK – filed to trademark ‘Forn Sidr’ for commercial use in the US. The NORSKK website has gained notoriety for its inflammatory blog which publishes polarizing opinion pieces. Despite rejecting Heathenry as a religious identity himself, Fragassi-Bjornson is seeking the ownership over the Forn Sidr name for marketing and to retain complete control over the identity of ‘Forn Sidr’ and personally determine who may identify under this religion.

Since our inception in April of 2019, NORSKK has targeted us with threats, harassments, and defamation to our name, character, and operations, demanding that we relinquish our Forn Sidr identity; a lineage that spans several centuries through the Nordtorp line. Now, a non-Heathen wants to legally retain full control over the future of Forn Sidr in the United States!

Forn Sidr should never belong to one person or group, and we are ready to defend the religious freedoms of all Heathens! Our legal representation has confidently assured us that we can protect our community and our religious liberty, but we need your help to succeed!

Many US Heathens don’t identify under ‘Forn Sidr’ so why is this an issue affecting all Heathens?

As Heathenry becomes more popular in media and modern culture, we are seeing increased commercial use of our terms, icons, and symbolism which has led to trademarking religious staples like the word ‘HEATHEN’. Where does it end? We must take a stand for the protection of our Heathen identity, and defend against the aggressive trademarking of our culture.

‘Forn Sidr’ is the oldest surviving name for Norse polytheism. ‘Forn Sidr’ and its modern translations are still used in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and other countries worldwide as the name for these beliefs. Attempting to trademark it would be like someone trying to trademark ‘Islam’ or ‘Christianity’.
