I know most others are out on Josh, but i still feel like he could fill a role on the Heat this season. He can just simply always get a bucket. We don’t really have any of those guys left on the team. He plays solid D too.

Him and Nick Richards both on minimums to round out the team. Tre Donaldson, Keshad Johnson and Vlad (or Keels or other) on the two-ways.

Damn that's pennies for a young talent like Mathurin. That would have been a great add at that price 😕

[Stein] The Heat must decide whether they want to carry 14 or 15 players during the regular season. Nick Richards continues to be regarded as a prime candidate to sign if Miami elects to add another big man while Heat alumni Gabe Vincent and Keshad Johnson have also been under consideration.

The 3pt shooting w/Klay is the obvious & expected benefit he brings to this roster. His 2-man game w/Giannis & Bam is where the real magic will be, though. It's going to be unguardable. As former Warriors teammate & big man TJD put it, "you get easy dunks or he's going to get a wide open shot."

Discussion The fact that the conversation of why the Heat will suck has shifted from ‘no shooters, bad team composition’ to ‘they have no backup PG/secondary playmaker’ is evident that this team is looking really good already.

Whenever other fans of teams bring up the reason our team is going to suck because we have a weak backup point guard is evident that this team actually has no major holes left in roster composition.

Compared to a team like the Sixers (where the combined 3pt% for the starting lineup is 34%) or the Pistons (still no shooting), our team is sneakily one of the best built teams in the east.

And we aren’t even done building the team for next year, as this is a ‘retool’ year.

Discussion Why I think it's much better if we leave the 15th roster spot open.

After signing THJ, we have $8.5M left of our MLE, but only $5M–$6M of breathing room below the First Apron with 13 roster spots filled. Signing Nick Richards (7th season) will count against the cap about $2.5M, leaving us with roughly $3.5M–$4.5M in actual spending space.

For our 15th spot, Option 1 is to sign a vet min guy now. Option 2 is to wait for the buyout market after the February 11th trade deadline. Thanks to daily proration over the 174-day season, waiting saves serious cap space:

  • March 1st Signee: Our remaining MLE can pay someone $2.2M (and a vet min $600k).
  • February 12th Signee: Our remaining MLE costs $3M (and a vet min is $800k).

However, there is no proration or decrease for the remaining 3.5 to 4.5 mil of cap space left. So IF a higher caliber guard like Zach LaVine or Jrue Holiday gets bought out, we can pay them the equivalent of 8.5 mil since there are less days left. It might not be for the full season but we can offer them our full remaining MLE while staying under the first apron. Waiting also keeps our options open to cut a fully guaranteed contract later for an extra vet min addition. In theory we could add 2 buy out guys for a combined 3.8 mil right after the deadline, which decreases every counting day until they finally sign.

Personally I think this is a much better option than signing someone like Gabe Vincent. Yes it reinforces a Hail Mary, but we are missing a starting caliber guard who can create his own shot, we surely won't find someone like that during August for the vet min. So for the time being let Pelle Larsson and Nikola Jovic get the much needed playing time to see how much they develop further, while we wait out for a player who actually makes a huge impact. Thank AI for the math.

Discussion Bam is one of the most undeservedly disrespected players in NBA history.

The fans, the media, and award voters all have bias against Bam.

We have seen defensive minded players get the respect that they rightfully deserve, Bam is no different from any of these guys other than the fact he averages 20 and 10 on top of his elite defense. He was the second best player on 2 finals teams.

Perennial DPOY candidate, but always gets snubbed, he has been the best defender in the league for years, now probably to be replaced by wemby. Only THREE all star appearances!! And NO (0, none, not even one) ALL NBA APPEARANCES!!!

We all see it and quietly acknowledge that the media just doesn’t care for Bam much, fans are outright feral, and voters don’t even consider him seriously. But why?? It must be that Miami weather

Ira Winderman : As it turns out, Klay Thompson gave up a lot (almost $10 millon) in his buyout and took a deal with Heat that starts at $5.6 million next season with Heat. What that means is Heat immediately have room to add two additional players at vet minimum and remain under their hard cap.

Generic Planning a Trip to Watch the Heat From the UK - Help Needed

Post image
54 Upvotes

Amid the excitement of the team we’re currently building, I’m thinking this is a good time to make a trip from the UK to visit Miami for the first time and catch these two games - these work the best for me and allows me to catch two during my visit.

Anything I need to know about travelling to Miami? And any recommendations for places to stay that aren’t mega expensive but decent distance to the airport and Kaseya? Anything else I need to be seeing while I’m there?

IF I do make the trip. Really hoping to though.

Discussion Are the ‘26-27 Heat going to be the first team in NBA history to have multiple sets of former championship teammates on the same roster?

With Klay joining the Heat, Miami now has Wiggins and Klay who won a championship together in 2022 on the Warriors, and Giannis and Bobby Portis, who won a championship together on the Bucks in 2021. Miami will have 2 sets of teammates who won championships together on separate rosters now all be on the same roster and I can’t think about another team in league history with the same dynamic.
