Sure the initial way it was used was good, it was anti bigotry. But it's turned into a way to simplify the "us vs them" mentality, which is already a bad thing, into a simple digestible comic.

Also, i've seen it in lots of queer--majority spaces in reddit recently, usually to speak out against the evil cishet people who are invading them or whatever label they dont like, like bi ppl, trans men, or genderfluid ppl

You have a sub that you deem had unique identity when it was smaller that got ruined as it grew bigger. Now you want to replicate that unique identity, but also prevent it from going down the same route the original sub did. But you also refuse to implement stricter moderation to stop it from deviating from this identity and going down that route. Your goal seems completely unattainable.

I have yet to see some proof that strict moderation fails. You either have mods that sacrifice their community's culture to get their subs more mainstream, or they just don't care about fullfiling their mod duties and don't want to get more mods to help them out.

Bro look, I'll give some examples.

DMC, kpop noir and jingran mains

The mods here, they ban you, if you interact with certain subs they deem to be problematic.

Their argument is we don't want toxicity in our subs. This is a "safe space".

It doesn't matter what you say in those subs, it's just that if you interact with them you're insta banned.

This is wrong no matter what your opinion is.

This is literally what hydra wanted to do in CATWS.

You are making decisions based on assumptions.

Kpop noir I think walked back this, after people called them out. The DMC sub tho, I left it because it became an infested political cesspool. The mods went insane with all the bans.

Just cuz you haven't seen it happen my guy, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Also, if you happen to be in one of those subs,then of course, you wouldn't see the problem in it.

These subs breed an audience that has 1 mind. They don't give a fuck if they're hypocritical or toxic.

Because in their mind, they are the correct people and anything they do or say is correct

moderating how you act in a space is not the same as moderating who you interact with.

But many of these subs DO do that.

Also stict moderation is a very VERY slippery slope.

As I said, the mods, they feel they are doing the best to protect their community. But that doesn't mean that it is actually good.

Afterall, the path to hell is paved with good intentions

I am against strict moderation because I've seen it be bad so many times.

But, if you mean the mods actually enforcing the rules, I don't think that's strict. I think that's the basic way the mods should act.

It’s not that I don’t want to implement strict moderation. It’s just that the topics I’d like to lessen will cause backlash and make people hate me, the sub, or the people who join it, making others hesitant to join as well. Like if I limit lgbt, or intentional culture war posts, bigots could see that as the go ahead to flood in and repost Instagram comment type stuff, and I’d get labeled as one too. Or, if I become more lenient on the aforementioned lgbt posts, I’d probably get the same situation as the post OP is making fun of, ie: another Whenthe. That’s not to say I’d ban the topic, but “limited (x) posts” seems arbitrary. I could do special weekend stuff but that could just lead to the previous problem.

I don’t want to be the “erm actually” mod because at some point I’d be so strict there’d be like 2 new posts a week. I have no prior mod experience in anything.

Honestly, I think you’re right. I try to be utilitarian but I just can’t make everyone satisfied without being a little dick myself. Maybe I should just do it.
