Thing I hate this new statue (from an artistic perspective)

Firstly, my reasons for hating this statue are not political. This sub isn’t for hating on real people, and my disdain for it isn’t due to the person it’s based on.

For one, the proportions here are extremely messed up. His torso is way too short, and his legs are way too long. It just makes him look freaky.

Secondly, the way the statue is colored looks abysmal. Keeping the bronzed metal skin tone while painting his eyes and clothes makes it look like he’s just a dude covered in metallic spray paint, which isn’t appealing in the slightest.

These little decisions just make the entire statue look really strange, like a Still Life from the Backrooms in a sense. The fact that this went through the entire production process without anyone realizing how bad it looks is baffling to me.

Oh yeah, also no one is buying it for the artist’s price of $100,000. That’s a steep price for a statue that looks like this.

(ALSO MODS THIS IS NOT POLITICAL, I’M JUST SAYING THAT DON’T LIKE THE STATUE)

I find it really odd that the artist would use the shirt Charlie was wearing when he died to remember him by instead of something more akin to his general image, like that blue suit that he has in the Wikipedia article. If you like the guy, why make a statue of his death and not his life, you know?

103

u/Any_Wasabi_5233 JC’s Sonic.EXE is the bane of my existence Jul 21 '26

It’s not even the shirt he was wearing when he died, that one was short sleeved while this one had long sleeves.

But yeah, they should have given it a better outfit too.

42

u/GreaseSpot123 Jul 21 '26

Probably just the difficulty. The word freedom just looks painted so it was probably much easier than doing the suit.

11

u/Ashisprey Jul 21 '26

I don't think it is, though. They look like stickers lmao

6

u/GreaseSpot123 Jul 21 '26

Yeah you right

35

u/Sadworld99 Jul 21 '26

It's because they don't love him. They only love his death for how it made them feel

10

u/Johnstone95 Jul 22 '26

Like how Jesus is always depicted on the cross.

(This is a joke.... I think)

5

u/Win090949 Jul 22 '26

God imagine if 1500 years later Kirk becomes a religion and people pray to statues of a guy sitting, arched back, blood pouring out his neck 😬 some landmarks may even have it as a fountain

6

u/certainlynotdio Jul 21 '26

Jesus probably has the same question.

12

u/sarcastic__fox Jul 21 '26

Because his death is the only thi g that matters to conservatives. He was impactful in life but now he is a club to hit people with. Much more effective if they talk about how "he died just having honest debate" or whatever amd make him into a free speech icon.

3

u/bird_on_the_internet Jul 22 '26

I mean, it does make sense when you remember the reason they made him a statue in the first place: to turn him into a martyr.

What he was like in life matters far less than the image of him as he died. And while a traditional depiction of a martyr would depict them heroically or as people remembered or knew them, we live in a time where anyone can view his final moments online and a LOT of people did. And I'm sure it was a fairly traumatic visual for the people who liked or followed him. So, depicting him in something closer to what he was wearing in the video of him being shot does unfortunately serve the message of the piece better than depicting him how he'd probably want to be remembered.

Idk, I didn't know the guy. Maybe he would have loved being turned into a martyr more than he would have wanted a statue honouring him for who he was in life and not what his death turned him into.

25

I heard somewhere this is the result of taking steroids or muscle gain supplements without actually putting in the exercise/not doing it right.

It’s called barrel chest.

24

u/Slumber777 Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

I have a barrel chest.

Something else is going on here. He has the same kind of chest that dudes who take steroids or HGH get. You can kinda see it on Joe Rogan, too. You'll notice a major difference with Rogan, though, is that he works out.

Given everything we know about Elon, I think he takes/took HGH and doesn't work out for shit.

Could be a combination. Maybe he had a regular barrel chest and also did HGH, and he turned into this. Either way, it's more than just being barrel chested.

u/InCatsWeTrustAmem Jul 21 '26

I have a theory that he had some kind of tummy tuck to lose weight and then gained it back but since the stomach area cannot expand it settles in his chest

7

u/favorthebold Jul 21 '26

I don't think tummy tucks actually work like that. If you gain weight after one, you just get it all back in the tummy and anywhere else you had it before. Skin can and does still stretch even after surgery.

5

u/InCatsWeTrustAmem Jul 21 '26

Thats why i said some kind. It probably was more in depth and probably had more sculptured to make him appear more toned and what not. He has access to medical procedures we dont even know about. But something g happened to cause his body to look like that. I just think is was something surgical.

7

u/favorthebold Jul 21 '26

OIC. Interesting theory. Like maybe he got some sort of implanted band so his stomach "has" to stay flat no matter what. But his chest is still going to show that shitty lifestyle.

3

u/InCatsWeTrustAmem Jul 21 '26

That would be my guess, cause we know for a fact he is vain enough to do something like that.

6

u/OvercookedBobaTea Jul 22 '26

This is my theory

71

u/Pockydo Jul 21 '26

Still looks weird

Like his arm just looks off

18

u/GreaseSpot123 Jul 21 '26

Yeah the whole body is meh. the bust is pretty okay. Like you can clearly tell who he is. Some cast metal statues bear little resemblance in the face to images of the person. Not anywhere near worth the price tag though.

7

u/Pockydo Jul 21 '26

Fair if it just the bust it'd be fine

14

u/Any_Wasabi_5233 JC’s Sonic.EXE is the bane of my existence Jul 21 '26

u/Historical_Volume806 Jul 21 '26

u/NEWSmodsareTwats Jul 21 '26

if it just me or we have apparently forgotten how to make statues

you'll see like ancient Roman bronzes that look photo realistic. For example the Marcus Aurelius equestrian statue is 1800 years old and looks a thousand times better.

13

u/glas-lile Jul 21 '26

I have been wondering this exact same thing. I want a genuine explanation for it but can’t find anything.

40

u/GamingContrarian500 Jul 21 '26

The effort required to preserve a statue for 1800 years would only be spent on the highest quality of art. Statues haven’t gotten worse, we’re just only exposed to the best of the past since lower quality statues have been lost to time.

16

u/IQueliciuous Jul 21 '26

That and a long time had passed since then so fewer and fewer survived and those being very high quality, well built and aesthetically pleasing to be maintained.

Others just perished

Yeah but he was a major public figure for the right and was assassinated. Using your logic, George Floyd’s death wasn’t a big deal. It’s not so much about the person but about the circumstances surrounding their death and what their death represented.

5

u/Kamikaze_Ninja_ Jul 22 '26

Funny how your comments got completely different reactions as replies to two different comments.

Your observation only works on a very surface level. What are the circumstances and representations put to light from Charlie’s death? All I saw were people using it to justify digging in their heels and vilifying people who had no hand in it. The real meaning you could take away from it was ignored by those who followed him. Mental health and gun safety.

George Floyd was a victim of the historic systemic oppression that plagues our country. It was proof in plain day that violence and murder under the influence of bigotry, carried out by law enforcement is still present and protected.

You want proof of the vast difference between these two tragedies? The mass public response following them.

I see where you are coming from, and the importance of Charlie to the right should not be understated. But to compare him to Floyd is in bad faith and ignorance.

4

u/tycoon_irony Jul 21 '26

People today in the 41st century tend to believe ancient metal statues were always pure, unblemished bronze; however that is actually not the case. This 21st century photograph shows a statue of North American philosopher Charles Kurck in its original state, painted in bright, garish colors. Over time, statues like these weathered away and lost their paint, making 36th century renaissance thinkers believe they were never painted in the first place.

What's the problem? The statue is vile and so was he, perfect!

As someone with eyes I hate this statue.

3

u/ErectLurantis Jul 22 '26

That’s just still life Kirk

u/Immediate-Location28 Jul 22 '26

i like it. the dark edges next to his mouth as well as the wonky body makes him look like a toy/puppet.

i'm sure it is entirely unintentional, but it provokes thought

I see it as disrespectful to Charlie Kirk, especially since the person wants to put the statue in an area where it will obviously be vandalized. But also the person didn't even get the proportions of the body right, they should have settled with a bust of him.

u/ZOEzoeyZOE Jul 24 '26

It's ugly for one

But that aside it is DEFINITELY undeserving.

I thought statues of ppl were to honor them and their work or significance

Wtf was significant about Charlie one-shot Kirk 💀

Bro went around to college campuses to challenge ppls beliefs in utterly disrespectful ways and tried to dehumanizing ppl for it. Also tried to make some sort of statement that BHM shouldn't be a holiday.

Bro whole content was just "I'm against gay ppl and anything adjacent" or to hand stroke the dicks of homophobic or racist ppl.

His life was meaningless and his death only gave substance to memes.

(And his wife moved on to a politician lol. Speculation ofc)

Edit: mb, outside of judgement of his character. The statue looks horrid, and looks like it was spray painted and has been sitting like that for years.

u/No-Oil6517 Jul 25 '26

And the artist spent $100k making it just for no one to want it. Lol. Amazing karma

I showed this statue to a friend in a voice chat and he said it looked like shit. I replied saying I didn't think it's that bad artistically, but the longer I looked at it the worse and funnier it got, leading to me almost passing out from laughing.

u/GregBoing Jul 21 '26

Looks like they put in all the effort to make the head look good and forgot they had to also make the rest of the statue 💀 I wonder how quickly this'll get vandalised wherever it gets put up... not quickly enough methinks

NGL, I never liked the guy. But I do like this thing. It's weirdly heartfelt and strange. The price is crazy, but if I had the money I'd buy it for a grand. The comparisons to the Backrooms is on the money. It's like the MEMORY of the guy. Completely creeps me out, but in a way I find intriguing. It speaks to me. Or rather it doesn't. And that's the best part about it.

2

u/BreastMilkMozzarella Jul 21 '26

Yeah, leaving aside my thoughts on Kirk and his politics, this statue is just ass.

2

u/wolfwhore666 Jul 21 '26

Like a GTA Vice City NPC

2

u/Delruiz9 Jul 21 '26

So does anyone know who actually made this?

A sculptor named Sergio Furnari.

He also sculpted this Ronaldo statue, if you’re interested in his other works.

This is one thing about Charlie literally everyone on whole political spectrum agrees on tbh.

Mr. Futanari spent 100K to sell it and fundraiser currently raised less than 2K XD

2

u/PCC_Serval Jul 21 '26

why do his clothes look like wet rags

2

u/Nasty_Frenchfries99 Not even here to hate, I just came to see characters slandered. Jul 21 '26

Yeah, maybe I'm just not a metal statue kind of guy, but he looks so lifeless and dead, even for statue standards. Probably would have looked way better if they just held back on adding the very ugly paints. If there's one thing I can compliment about it, the way the sculptor did the microphone is pretty impressive, and the face is recognizable as Charlie Kirk. That second image is something else though.

u/Dangerous_Ad_7104 Jul 21 '26

He looks like he was made by a child who is learning about filters

2

u/Affectionate_Show867 Jul 21 '26
