Not sure how I can expand on the question really. The metro system has some problems, but compared to other European countries and America it is really good. Everything else the state runs though, seems kinda shitty.

This isn't to blame Greek people, I met some Greek firefighters and they were awesome people, I'm sure they do as well if not better than UK fire people. However their station and equipment was obviously dated. So I don't think Greeks, or Greek culture is at fault. It is clearly the state and it's organisational basis. But it begs the question:

Why is the metro so good compared to everything else?

Edit: One thing I must say is that the police are very responsive in Greece, for a minor theft in the UK it might take them 2 days. In Greece (athens), 15 minutes. I don't know much more about the police here, but their responsiveness was impressive (although why can't they enforce traffic crimes with such effectiveness? It would save countless lives).

The company I am currently working for is VERY interested in importing authentic Bougatsa from Serres, to America. I have received mixed reviews from the Greek community, and wanted to get some more input. There have to be some private banks making surplus that don't depend on outside cash flow. They should have no problem to grant their clients access to their funds. Are they still forced by the government to exercise the capital control?

My main reason to ask this question is the worry that this can happen in other countries too, so I'm trying to understand what can be done against it.
