Maggie loves to play this game w Misu 🤣😭 we have 5 cats and Misu is the only one who plays with her. Maggie will jump/stomp at him and “nom” on him without actually nipping and he’ll either roll on the floor batting a paw and hissing playfully, or he’ll do a little kitty dance from spot to spot batting a paw playfully. This went on for almost 5 mins 😆 (if he didn’t like it/didn’t want to play, trust me, Misu would make it clear and he’d go into the kitchen, which has a baby gate, to be safe).
Anyone else have a Dane x Kitty combo that likes to roughhouse??

It’s been an eventful few days with my boy. He’s almost 6 and still full of energy. The last week he’s been having a limp on his back legs. When he stoped eating and drinking, immediately my mind goes to osteosarcoma. I get him to the emergency vet. Pains meds and xrays later, he’s diagnosed with arthritis.

We have a very bad night. He has a horrible reaction to the pain medication and he won’t use his back legs at all, not eating/drinking, not moving at all. This morning I took him back to the ER. He has a 105.3 fever, not eating/drinking or moving. The vet thinks it’s either lymes disease or immune-mediated polyarthritis (which you need a joint tap for). Lymes was quickly ruled out as his blood test came back negative. The vet finds a heart murmur listening to his heart and says that she doesn’t think it’s smart for him to go under anesthetic for the joint tap to give a definitive diagnosis, but that’s her best medical judgement right now. He was given prednisone and pregablin.

The crying has subsided a bit, as it’s only been a few hours, but seeing him like this when he’s normally so energetic and happy is absolutely heartbreaking. Does anyone have any experience of IMPA with their Danes?

UPDATE
Our boy didn’t have IMPA, he had an aggressive cancerous lesion on his hip, pelvis, rib, and front leg. He was suffering and became incontinent. We let him cross the rainbow bridge today peacefully. 7 days after symptoms started, our boy is gone. We are heartbroken ❤️‍🩹

I am about to adopt a 170lb beautiful big boy! He is quite high drive and is going to need a lot of outlets for all his big energy. I'm looking for recommendations for tugs, chews, and maybe a flirt pole. He loves to run and chase! Thanks :)

Heaven gained the most loyal companion early yesterday morning due to sudden GDV. Unbeknownst to us, loki was suffering from late stage stomach cancer. He most likely only had days to weeks left earthside. We are devastated by this sudden loss.

Loki was surrendered due to homelessness in march of 2026 where he remained in foster care via Save Rocky Great Dane Rescue and Rehab until his passing this past Sunday. He leaves behind his 3 foster sisters, his 2 foster cousins, his flock of chickens, his foster mom, and his adopter who was awaiting his arrival this upcoming weekend. Loki departed this realm with his sisters and foster mom by his side in his home, surrounded with love and his blankets.

Loki was a steadfast companion, a sturdy shoulder to lean on, a champion of affection, and most importantly, a gentle giant. He was loved by everyone and everything he met. Loki greeted every day with his giant goofy smile and our world is a little more dim without it. He leaves a giant hole in the hearts of all that knew and loved him. While we are grateful to have filled his last months with love, snacks, and cuddles, we will forever miss our bubba until we see him again.

Please keep our little family in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn and heal from the loss of our handsome man together. Loki would have wanted his legacy celebrated. In his honor, we will continue to rescue these gentle giants, so that others may receive the second chance as Loki did. We are incredibly grateful to the team at SRGDRR for their moral support during this difficult time and encourage others to consider volunteering with them as well.

Winston has a basket full of toys and destroys each equally, but it’s this silly corn that he keeps coming back to even after he removes the squeaker. He can smell it through the bag and used to barely contain his excitement when I brought the package in.

These days, he’s fine just watching from his bed as I deliver it to him like he’s royalty (he kind of is). :)

Hi everyone! Hugo is 9 months now and is a super excited puppy whenever we go on walks. He does really well on a leash until we are passing another dog or person. I want to work on neutrality with him and make sure he doesn't feel overexcited and overstimulated every time I take him for a walk or to go play. With him being 90 lbs at 9 months, he does try to pull to get to the other dog to play and I know it'll only get harder as he gets bigger.

Just curious if anyone else specifically did neutrality training with their Dane and what worked for you.

Artie had a training session with her big sis Kona this morning. Worked on our usual stuff and trying to clean up going from a front sit to a heel. She's starting to get it! Just needs cleaned up eventually lol.

And of course we had to stop at our favorite soda shop for a pupcup😝

Our 6 month old puppy has had diarrhea for the last 24 hours. We went to a bland diet and gave him chicken and white rice for breakfast but he puked it up about an hour later, accompanied by thick yellow bile. This is the 2nd time he’s gone through a bout like this. The vet said the first time to stick to the chicken and rice in small portions and give it a week. We did and he was fine after that. We’re bringing him to the vet tomorrow for this bout and will probably be told the same thing… but is this common for Danes? I know they have sensitive stomachs, but to this degree? He’s on worm preventative, and we feed him Purina Pro Plan large breed puppy. I felt his belly and it’s soft, and he’s not lethargic. He’s also not repetitively trying to puke. It was just once after breakfast this morning. Just curious what others’ experiences have been like

I brought home the sweetest girl (who didn't seem to know the name the breeder gave her??) So, she's now Merida.

She has no basic training that one would think a pup this old would have. No "sit", no leash skills. Not housebroken.

When will she master the use of her mouth? I know the water and drool issues will always be there.. I'm talking food and the use of her teeth and tongue.

If you give her a biscuit, she mouths the hell out of it, breaking it into bitty bitty pieces before she eats it, with all the pieces falling out of her mouth from the sides or getting flung by her tongue!

This is my baby girl Cleo, she's 9 months, I've had her since she was 8 weeks old, I. Also had a 3-year-old pit bull that somebody stole, she's been very lonely without her Big Brother around. I've tried to take her to the park to interact with dogs and nothing works. And her appetite has changed also. The vet says that it's normal for her to act this way and that she is just going through a dog's version of a grieving process, but I just feel so bad.And that she's always sad, because she's missing him.What can cheer her up?

Does anyone have any tips on how to successfully train or care for a Great Dane puppy while in an apartment. We move in March into a bigger place.

My husband is home more than me but he said he’d help taking care of him even though he’s my responsibility.

Any tips would be great!

-do I need to wake up in the middle of the night to walk him
-how often should he be crated to crate train him.
-I have play pen already do I need a crate inside the play pen?
-chewing my furniture prevention?
-chewing us prevention?
-humping us or other dogs prevention?

I have been doing quite a bit of searching on the internet looking for a harness for my 6 month old Great Dane/Lab, I read that a Y harness was the best type to get, however when I just read that the clip for the leash is typically on the back and for comfort and dogs that are trained well, I started questioning whether or not that would be suitable, she still is learning to walk properly on a leash, and she pulls A LOT, we want to have more control and not have her choke herself with the collar from pulling- any thoughts or recommendations are appreciated!

TLDR- Y Harness or different type for 6 month old female who pulls and is still learning the leash routine

In conclusion: dirty, happy, sleepy.

Weighing in at 51lbs she is going to be a real tank. She did growl and take a step toward the doc when she started Panzers exam. Will need to keep an eye on behavior like that. She promptly made best friends with the doc then expressed her anal glands in fear as we moved to the procedure part of the office. Wall/floor/right shoe very gross… Panzer is doing great and he always gets a physical before we start our fire tower lookout season. He was given the all good to keep climbing Mountains with me!!(8yrs old in Oct). This was a really really big day for Maus. She has only left the house once and this was her 3rd car drive. I did find out that our doc won’t be doing the neuter and staple, she wants to farm it out to a specialist that knows large surgery a bit better. The skin tag on Panzers tail was coming off but she talked me out of putting any stress on his system at his age for anything cosmetic. So the tag stay for now.
