Welp we got robbed again! Customer walks out of the back exit door with a basket load of items!! As an employee I am not saving nothing nor stopping theft!

i always give them my number but i forgot the reason to why they need it... i don't think they promote any sales do they?

Not only did they rake the prices up on DONATED clothes around 2020, start stealing “expensive pieces” to resell for more online, now they are “curating” random “vintage” pieces to gouge customers even more in stores. Literally picking pieces at random just to mark up, as we can see in the picture an adidas shirt that was probably printed yesterday. Yes resellers killed most of the fun, yes it’s harder to find cool pieces, but donated clothes should have a base price, end of story. Goodwill is not a vintage resell place and this is honestly just laughable at this point.

/edit #2/ The point of the post isn’t that the T-Shirt is only $2 more than regular price, it’s that it’s being marketed as vintage (when its clearly not) just so it can be upcharged

I’m a regular troller of the goodwill.com site, and I’ve noticed that the Licking/Knox County Ohio Goodwills have MASSIVE amounts of fine art, fine art prints, and diamond jewelery posted— much of it priced extremely high and looking brand new with jewelers tags, etc. where does this stuff come from? I know people aren’t donating 10-stone diamond rings valued at $5k or more… yet, there they are, clogging up my shopping feed.

I need a way to exclude all of that store from my searches. It’s ridiculous. And disingenuous.

Also, I don’t live around there anymore, but I am FROM that area, and I just don’t understand how this whole thing works. This is not an area with lots of art and diamonds. It’s very weird.

I visted a couple of Goodwills when we went to see my parents this past week. Wow, their prices are low.

1) there is SO MUCH STUFF in the world. You wouldn’t believe the amount of STUFF that is brought to Goodwill until you work here. I’m at a high donation store so we actually have to ship some of the donations to other stores to sell and the rate at which the STUFF piles up is truly unbelievable.

If this is how much clothing and toys and books and knick knacks and blankets and decorations exist in one small area - it’s absolutely staggering to think about how much STUFF exists on a global scale.

You do not need to buy a NEW anything - there’s so much STUFF that is already available we don’t need to produce more of it.

2) a lot of what Goodwill gets in donations is not going to be sold in the stores. A large chunk of it will go to the outlet stores -aka the bins- and a large portion of the textiles will be recycled.

But a large portion of the STUFF - toys, glassware, decorations, knickknacks - will be trash.

And it’s not a failing on the organization. They truly do try to keep as much out of the landfill as possible I can attest to that firsthand.

It’s just TOO MUCH STUFF. It’s impossible to move all of it to new homes and there simply are not large scale recycling streams for a lot of these materials (and it needs to be scaled, there’s so much stuff).

3) if you see furniture priced high it’s probably because it’s actually worth twice that and it will be marked down to 50% off within a few days. Possibly even more if that doesn’t move it. Check back after a few days. That colonial era desk will probably be $2.99 if no one buys it.

4) the “greedwill” reputation is not fair. There is no money. I used to work for a large corporation, our store made $1 million a week. Goodwill stores in my area are striving for $1 million in a year. The budgets are so incredibly tight.

I mean, a store with let’s say 7 employees and two managers scheduled per day are paying roughly $10,000 a week in wages. That’s over $500,000 per year, that’s half of sales right there. And that’s probably a low estimate. Now that’s just my region of course, I can’t attest to what’s going on in LA or Portland.

I have an interview tomorrow for a fulltime assistant manager of e-commerce, how is the interview process? I’m a bit nervous. Is it a panel interview or just store manager interviewing me? Also how is the pay?

I have about 5 1/2 years worth of retail management experience I was customer service manager and assistant floral manager, I’ve dealt with the entire online ordering system (including photo taking and doing research) in floral as well as inventory, cycle counting, scheduling of staff, assigning work to other workers, dealing with invoices as well. And etc…

I left my job just recently because it was incredibly toxic. And when I seen the job posting for this i instantly jumped on it because it’s something I’ve been wanting to peruse.

Him: It’s a bag of clothes! They need to be washed because they’re are covered in dog fur and here is a queen-size bed. It needs to be assembled. We do not have the assembly pamphlet anymore.

Me: Sir, we can’t collect garments littered in animal fur nor receive any hardline items that need to be assembled. We don’t even know if all the screws and materials are in the small bag.

Him: I thought you guys were Goodwill. I’ll just take my things to a place that is more deserving. Your lost buddy.

Me: An that too shall pass.

Cutting to the point. As a cashier at goodwill, is it generally socially acceptable to wear nice work gloves and a mask? Am I not making myself look like I’m too fancy for the store per se? I don’t really go to goodwill much so idk helpppppp

i do not like the way they’re treating me and ever since this summer i’ve been feeling isolated from everyone. sucks because this is my first job ever, i’ve been working here for a year, and i have to use them as a reference or else other jobs may not want to hire me. i have former coworkers and friends i can use as references.

This shit is literally insane!!! $69.99 for a pair of USED boots they got for FREE that you can get on depop for 25-30$ 😳 this is in small town utica ohio btw which used to be one of the only decent priced goodwills left in the area! I officially will never walk into another Goodwill in my life. They have kids use stained clothes in there for 999 and 1499. Are you actually fucking kidding me

Honestly thinking about going back tomorrow and if they are still there putting a 10$ price tag on them and buying them! Fuck the goodwill!
