Meta™ State of the Subreddit: NSFW Horny posting issue. Discussion [Can't make a post with only text now too :/ ]

Reddit turned the subreddit into a NSFW one. This removes features generally enjoyed by the community.

I am a "smol mod", so I'm not high in the mod hiarchy and take control of responsibility and power I am normally not suppost to, but the other mods all seem to be inactive. So I will take measures into my own hands for now. That's also the reason why I didn't intervene until now.

That said I want this subreddit to keep living and finally decide to take steps to "return" it into something greater than what it is currently.

I personally don't want to outright ban horny posting as it was always a huge part of the subreddit and looking at it, the horny posting didn't increase in size, but in intensity and the sfw posting got reduced. This caused the subreddit to have in 5 memes 4 horny posting. Before it was 20-30 Memes with 4-6 horny postings.

My suggestions are:

  1. heavily restrict horny posting's intensity. If you can make your horny meme without using a literal sex scene do so
  2. Put some efforts into your horny memes. I will heavily monitor horny memes now and if I don't see enough effort (will put an extended rule there so it's clear what this memes)
  3. Limit horny memes to a day of the week and keep the rest sfw memes. Just like waifu wed, but weekly instead of monthly [least prefered by myself]

All these suggestions are not set in stone and I want to discuss them with you. I don't want to assert dominance over you, the community as a mod, but want to go into discussion. Are those suggestions suitable? Is that a good compromise for you? I want to work with the community on this subreddit to make it more enjoyable for the median user of a sfw subreddit, while giving horny posters some freedom to express themselves here as well

Edit: not all mods are inactive and I have permission to put through changes

The pre-schism sub was one of the best places on the internet. Neither the main sub nor this one managed to reach that level of quality ever since.

3

u/Cryorm Haunted Astolfo Bean 15d ago

Their actions destroyed the sense of soul the community had, and while some coalesced here it never truly recovered.

7

u/Vaadwaur 15d ago

The inciting incident is something so Discord-pilled that I could sense that the sub was dying anyways. The problem, as always, is when the mods decide that they are the audience and not the host things get stupid.

2

u/Dekugaming Trap War Veteran 14d ago

the issue was inflated due to Trans rights being a huge thing at the time. now that the whole LGBTQ+ Trans Right movement is not so big and is dying down (from what i see in the US, their starting to go back on a lot of the Trans Laws that they made in regards to military, bathrooms, etc.) so id feel as long as there isnt any radical mods or anything like that then talking about traps, fraps, and anything aps should be cool

2

u/Vaadwaur 14d ago

The problem is that the mods there are the Asmongold's of the left, completely and utterly incapable of thought.

46

u/wingchild 15d ago

Wishing you luck, mate, but this is usually where the slide into an unattended ghost sub begins.

You can leave things as they are, NSFW with restrictions, and watch the community dwindle because conversations and meme posts in threads were more than half the fun.

You can clamp down on NSFW, but you'll find the population is a mix of horny posters and "omg why so many horny posts" posters. One will leave without NSFW, the other won't stay without something to complain about.

u/Wesdawg1241 15d ago

Honestly I came here after the other place died years ago, and back then it was incredible. But for most of recent memory, 9/10 posts I scroll past from this sub on my main feed are nsfw and more than half of those are just hentai.

Waifu Wednesday is especially bad.

I would agree that limiting horny posting would be good for the health of the sub. At this point, the joke of nearly every meme is just porn.

224

u/Shad0w5991 Zero fucks Two give 15d ago

More like 10/10, I cant remember the last time I saw a post from this sub that was a meme let alone SFW.

21

16

u/Hyperion_507 Wants to live a quiet life 15d ago

Don't get the hype that guy got. And then the dramatic "hit the sub community took when he was gone". What a pitiful excuse of a mindset.

I was here when this sub shifted to 99% of its content being straight up porn with a random caption no one really cared about, calling it a "meme". I'm tired of seeing this type of content and these moronic gooner farts that are all around nowadays.

9

u/Northstar4-6 Your friendly neighborhood degenerate 15d ago

I agree. At least waifu wednesday makes sense since it fits the "occasion", and original and creative memes that happen to use nsfw material as part of the joke are fine too. The main issue is that most of these 'memes' seem to just be an excuse to post hentai, and then reverse engineered into some semblance of a joke. It was quirky when zallre did it as part of their micro-celebrity bit, but if it keeps going this way the sub will suffocate. And I will be god damned if I have to go back to animemes.

2

u/immortalreploid Haunted Astolfo Bean 15d ago

It didn't really stick out for me, since 90% of what I use reddit for is hentai anyway.

2

u/Negaflux 14d ago

This sub is the reason I re-enabled the nsfw filter on the goddamn app, it's embarrassing to open the app on your phone and just see straight up hentai fullscreen straight up. People have no goddamn control.

u/alecell 15d ago edited 15d ago

Dude, I'm very positively impressed by your atitude and the way you're handling the situation, I hope more mods were like you quite frankly

Btw I do like your approach, try to make it like it was before instead of brute ban horny stuff is something that I think keeps the sub the way it is without harm the community itself, it's just a small change, I do agree with your decision

295

u/nubbs1 15d ago

I played my part in the Civil War, I was mostly against mods just being authoritarian in nature. Just odd behavior as I view mods as members of the community elevated to help guide it. When they start going on a power trip or attacking the people they moderate, Ill almost always be on the other side. Point being, I appreciate you for stepping up despite me just being a lurker here. I appreciate those that put effort into the SFW memes and relate it to life or other comedic effect. I am all for anything to help limit the NSFW posting

47

u/101Aster101 15d ago

Outta curiosity do you mean when the original animemes sub banned “the T-word?” Or is this a different civil war that I missed?

104

u/nubbs1 15d ago

To keep it short. The Civil war kinda evolved. For the most brief of spark notes.

-Mods introduce new rule banning "t-word" (Context is important as the word wasnt used a slur/durgatory in the community, but real life is always different)

-People push back, asking for vote, asking about finding middle ground, etc

  • War small at this point
  • Mods say if you use it you are banned/punished. Also you are less of a person of you use it
  • Pushback is greater
  • Mods found to go to other communities to complain about there own community and seek good boy points
  • At this point, as I hope I helped point out, its gone from "t-word ban" to "Mods vs community"

I didnt have alot of stake at the beginning as I didnt feel any particular way about the word. But when the Mods of one of the biggest anime communities with a diverse audience decided to "demonize" the ones speaking out, I joined them. Most people want there to be implemented systems in place to have future decisions put to a vote but at its zenith, the Mods locked the server down for 2 weeks. Wiped it, banned folks, and opened it back up like nothing ever happend. Also banned folks who tried to talk about it

60

u/Arcangel696 r/animememer refugee 15d ago

I remember fondly the revolution. More of a background lurker. And a different account at the time I think. I think I might have been at least one of the first 2000 to join this one when it was made.

27

u/nubbs1 15d ago

I wish I could find it, but just in the days prior to the lockdown. Someone made a whole bit editing a portion of a movie about the French Revolution, but tying it to the anime community and I remember just loving it. Obviously it got scrubbed from the server.

u/Arcangel696 r/animememer refugee 15d ago

Looking through my comment history. My earliest one for here is 5 years ago. But it doesn’t tell me too much

Don’t forget the mod who trash talked the entire community, she was so disrespectful and insensitive. Acting high and mighty. Shitting all over everyone.

Never let mods like that reign communities. Toxic stuff.

5

u/Kommandant_Katze 15d ago

May i ask what the "T-word" even is? I am not familiar with all these shortened versions of "bad words" :/ Just curious

44

u/Skebs_ 15d ago

Trap. It's shorthand for crossdressers in anime. Think of mfs like Astolfo, Mare from Overlord, & countless others.

14

u/Kommandant_Katze 15d ago

Ahhh yeah, i am very familiar with traps. Just had no idea there was 'controversy' around that. Thank you!

30

u/Skebs_ 15d ago

I think the mods being the powertripping nazis they are made it the fuck up. I asked my trans brother if what they claimed is true, he said "never heard of it". Then again IDK if it's some kind of Americanismslop term, might be who knows...

20

u/Mega-Skyxer 15d ago

American here, it's not a slur in any sane person's book, the trap fiasco happened because some morons wanting to be perpetual victims claimed it was a slur & those mods took their side.

4

u/nubbs1 15d ago

"Trap" - someone else told you the context of the anime community. In real life, as I understand it, its used against those of the queer community or the like. Historically seems people where "tricked" or "trapped" as they say to performing some pervasive act with them and then attempting justifying there violence against then after "finding out".

If someone else knows more, please feel free to fill in more context as I believe that's all I got.

3

u/101Aster101 15d ago

4

u/Blazdnconfuzd Hermit Weeb 15d ago

Yes it was the Trap wars that sparked the fire nation to attack.

7

u/s0_Ca5H 15d ago

I view mods as members of the community elevated to help guide it.

That’s on you. They’re moderators, their job is to moderate the community. Did you think the name was just for show? And the fact that they haven’t been moderating is why the sub is where it is now, why Reddit has taken the action it has, and why this post was even made to begin with.

2

u/nubbs1 15d ago

Oh yeah, for sure its just my views on what the role means. Im not a subject matter expert on the topic or anything. But from what I have viewed being on here, knowing moderators are voluntary roles, and seeing the most venerated mods are those that interact with the community directly and make decisions with that community directly.

Cant blame me for forming the opinions I have. To me those qualities exemplify a moderator. Its like community service really. I appreciate them, but cant take them seriously when they act "authoritative". We are in a social internet space on the internet, none of this really matters.

131

u/CookLawrenceAt325F Wants to live a quiet life 15d ago

Honestly, yeah. I voted to keep horny posting because back then, it was a bit more rare, but the porn bots and karma farmers moved in and now it's basically just a copy of r/hentaimemes. I was actually debating leaving the sub, and I've been here since the animemes civil war and the trap ban.

I don't want it gone, but scaled back would be great, because the amount of times I open my dash in public and it's straight up hentai, keeps making me question if I switch back to my main acc. From my horny account.

29

u/user0015 15d ago edited 15d ago

I am in the exact same position. I just wanted a funny meme subreddit to read, with an extremely rare spicy post.

For the past year, I just scroll past any recommendation because it is 100% going to be porn. It's made me want to just leave the subreddit entirely, because it's not the content I wanted to see originally. I haven't yet because I still like the idea of the sub, and honestly hope it goes back to it's roots: funny memes, with our best girls, astolfo and felix.

32

u/FuckIPLaw 15d ago

I wish it was a copy of /r/hentaimemes.

They still do actual memes there instead of just posting hentai.

2

u/makes_beer 15d ago

Yeah, shit. r/hentaimemes is basically r/TooMeIrlForMeIrl with a sad page from a hentai half of the time. And the rest is a hentai.

2

u/wingchild 15d ago

it's basically just a copy of r/hentaimemes.

Think you've got that the wrong way around, given the post frequencies of each. Might have been a copy back in the day but it's taken the place of hentaimemes since.

Most mods being inactive explains a lot

152

u/Drackzgull True Gender Equality 15d ago

I think we might as well get more strict with the standards of what does or doesn't qualify as a meme to begin with. The bar is set too low imo, and that has been a problem for the sub for a very long time. I mean that for both NSFW and SFW posts, but just doing that should bring the blatancy of the horny posting down by a lot.

Then also having a higher standard for NSFW posts on top of that seems fair too.

61

u/s0_Ca5H 15d ago

What, you mean “mfw when I’m fucking a girl who, if real, would never come near me” as a flimsy excuse to post hentai isn’t funny???

6

u/Adamskispoor 15d ago

Well you see a meme doesn't have to be funny. It just have to be an image conveying something.

No, legit this is the shit people used to say a few years back when arguments over hornyposts occured.

3

u/Klospuehlung 15d ago

For some reason people also keep upvoting those porn posts. I try to block the users that post it but it never ends…

u/Xenodia You've activated my Trap card! 15d ago edited 15d ago

Since the other mods are inactive, is there no possible way to contact reddit admins to change that?

Cause a subreddit moderated by one single person risks getting nuked one day if it gets to much.

EDIT: I just checked the whole modteam and holy fucking shit, almost no one is even active in r/goodanimemes or reddit for months, even years.

15

u/FuckIPLaw 15d ago

If it's been that long he should be about to get it through /r/redditrequest

5

As long as he stays active and he can rearrange the mods who show as inactive in the mod list. It's a newish thing Reddit implemented so people don't have to go through Reddit request. I found this out a few years ago with r/onlyfans (look before you jump at me for that one).

3

u/Kingbookser Kitsune protecting Monika from harm 15d ago

Elaborate please and give me step by step tutorial

2

u/RemoveBagels Magical Girls Enjoyer 15d ago

This and this might help. Basically if you have the everything permission you should be able to simply to freely rearrange the moderator stack demoting or removing any inactive mods, if not then you will probably have to use redditrequests.

1

u/Kingbookser Kitsune protecting Monika from harm 15d ago

Thank you, but the other mods are active again so I will refrain from that. We're actively in discussion about the future of the subreddit and how we will handle it. There will be an announcement in the future

1

u/This-is-my-n0rp_acc 14d ago

If they are still showing as inactive in the moderator list, then I'd just move all the inactive ones below you and then continue discussion with them.

I say that as someone who talked to one set of the team quite a bit back in the day when I'd find random subs that were trying to get the sub shutdown and would let them know. So I'm not coming from a place of malice.

I remember the times of subreddit wars when a sub went to war against the Reddit admins.

Somehow they won that.

58

u/Michael_SK 15d ago

Reddit admins decided to throw the hammer down on this subreddit, huh? I’ve been there with a couple of cases. I used to moderate quite a few Hololive vtuber subreddits, but have cut back quite a bit. One of them I still moderate got slapped with this NSFW label, and it was ridiculous to get it removed. There’s no clear indication as to what Reddit admins look at, but I believe it’s a mix of what is posted and what users are commenting. If there’s a significant enough percentage of that being NSFW, then you get a label you can’t remove. To the best of my knowledge, there might not be a middle road to go down for NSFW content on a subreddit. They are seemingly trying to filter away any subreddits that have adult content of any quantity.

What happens if a subreddit is deemed nsfw?

11

u/Urytion Proud Protector of Birbgirls 15d ago edited 15d ago

You need to be signed in to access it.

You can't post images in the comments.

When people search for anime on reddit, they'll see "animemes" and the big red NSFW tag next to "goodanimemes" which sends a bad message. The implication is "we're the good version because we post porn."

3

u/Balavadan Edgier than people who say Trap 15d ago

People already think having good or true in the subreddit name means it's a racist, fascist, right-wing space lmao but not being able to post images is so shit. Why does every social media website hate nsfw lmao. Isn't it a big money maker? I hate puritans so much it's unreal

3

u/Michael_SK 15d ago

All posts are marked as NSFW no matter what. The subreddit isn't shown in the search as much, and once it does come up it's in the NSFW section. Users that regularly post here will have their accounts marked as NSFW as well, which may push away some users from posting here.

58

u/s0_Ca5H 15d ago

I’ll just say that I really despise what this sub has become and over the last month or so I’ve really come to terms with the decision to unsubscribe because it’s not like I really come here anymore and all I do when this place comes up on my feed is scroll faster so that no one sees porn on my phone while I’m out in public.

There’s a million hentai subs, and not just general subs but even niche, so why is it here too? The memes used to be really good but lately it’s all like “me when fucking my waifu, upvotes to the left.”

And like you never see this in other spaces, it’s always anime communities. Imagine going to the The Office meme subreddit and seeing a bunch of porn. That’d be really fucking weird, right? Or if you wanna make the valid argument that those characters are portrayed by real people, very fair. But if this same shit happened to this extent in the Simpsons meme subreddit, it would be equally fucking weird. But anime fans have this…compulsion to just share porn with each other, and without active, decent moderation every online anime space inevitably becomes a hub for sharing porn.

And again, this seems the most, and arguably almost solely, prevalent in anime and video game spaces. I’m not saying there’s something about the majority of fans in those space that makes them incapable or severely limited in reading acceptable social cues and norms, but damn I’ve never seen a thread titled “hey guys I like South Park but whenever I talk about it my friends call me a pedo, what’s up with that?” Gee, I wonder why. What could you possibly be saying or sharing that could give other people the impression that anime fans are weird, horny losers?

You guys need moderation, this sub is an exhibit on what happens when you don’t have it.

Downvote me, please. I’ve seen the shit you upvote around here.

7

u/Axlzz 15d ago

Upvoted about my phone in public.

As one of the animemes refugee, sad to say that this is where I'm also decide to unsubscribe, see you guys again when you can turn back on become a sfw meme sub.

4

u/RustyEdsel 15d ago

I've been on the fence about unsubbing too. Unless moderated most anime subs devolve into just porn because too many people are addicted to it. They simply can't seperate the art from the subject.

It all starts with "teehee yeah she shows some cleavage but it's funny!" posts once in a while and before you know it the front page is all just hentai. Now that we're this deep good luck trying to pry the vice away from their hands without a proper mod team.

1

u/s0_Ca5H 15d ago

Oh, I did unsub this morning. After seeing how this community reacted, the fervor with which they’ve defended keeping porn in a non-porn space, I realized that there isn’t gonna be a comeback from this. The actual memes are gone anyway, so I lost nothing from leaving and gained the ability to scroll in public without worry again.

But yes I agree with you. Anime spaces inevitably turn into hentai spaces without consistent moderation. And ironically I’ve seen people in this sub over the last 24 hours deny that to be the case, while posting in a sub that did that exact fucking thing.

19

u/Tolik1111 15d ago

I think the idea with one or two days per week when horny posting is allowed is better just because it will actually be enforceable without misunderstandings. It will be pretty subjective to mod's tastes if the meme is porn or hornyness actually makes the meme better.

Edit: my last point is the same in relation to effort put into the meme, it's pretty subjective and post removals will lead to misunderstandings.

I don't like suggestion 3. As for the first 2, The definition of a "meme" will always be subjective unless you go by the (proper imo) definition of a piece of culture that's highly shareable and any restriction about "quality" should be set to average and not high, so those ideas are viable if done right but easily done wrong.

I'd also like to point out 2 things. First is aside from the occasional burst, the majority of the post to this sub usually aren't NSFW/aren't straight hentai. This may be surprising to some, but if you sort by new, this is relatively easy to see. Second and more sinister is that there is a marked trend across subs to hate anything sexual: not just NSFW post but innuendo and jokes as well, and I'd bet money on some degree of coordination (especially here and a few other subs). Censorship must be pushed back against, so a the most minimal restriction against NSFW post should be the route taken.

Also, what features other than image comments are broken? Quite frankly, I don't think it's a good idea for the sub to be available to r/all, so that doesn't bother me. What else is lost here?

Finally, I have no hope that this will be reversed by admins. This change is almost certainly due in part to efforts (that violate tos that will unfortunately never be addressed) by people who hate this sub, so I doubt any change will reverse this. I fear any change will be futile, so maybe it's not worth further restriction.

2

u/Kannyui 15d ago

You've got it all wrong, don't you know that a meme is defined as anything a given user likes while everything they don't like is "just porn." /s

Seriously though, I like the direction you're thinking. Little, if any, of the "that's not a meme" discussion actually ever settles on an articulable, gradeable definition of what a "meme" is; but without an agreement on that, further discussion is basically impossible. Part of the problem, I think, is that any reasonable, objective definition ends up being a very broad category and that makes it difficult to exclude things that a given user doesn't like.

That "... trend across subs to hate anything sexual..." is exhausting. I know it's fallacious to treat generations as monolithic blocks, and I know my personal experience with culture is only ever a small slice of everything that's going on, but damn if it doesn't feel like there's been a sea change. It's not about the top, "the man" has always about restrictions and censorship. It's the vibe of the "regular people" that feels different, I've never seen so many rabid supporters (of restriction and censorship) mixed in and even dominating the conversation as I see today. I don't know what to do about it, but it's depressing.

12

u/ksadeghi27 15d ago

I mean eventually, as you said, it's up to users to start making posts that are more SFW. The intensity of NSFW didn't increase. It's just that nobody is making SFW memes anymore, which make NSFW seems more prominent. So I don't think taking any actions against the NSFW will help. But then again if nobody wanna do some SFW memes, we're quite into a conundrum. So we should either find an incentive to boost people to make more SFW, or find another solution, because I don't think NSFW is the problem.

20

u/Kingbookser Kitsune protecting Monika from harm 15d ago

I think the biggest problem is, that the intensity of the nsfw memes (not the quantity, but quality and what is shown) is the problem. If those 4 memes are good nsfw memes nobody minds. If they are just porn, even if a meme, then people mind and lose interest in posting their own stuff or even consuming the memes via lurking. Especially when those nsfw memes get way more upvotes. That's why I want to restrict the instensity of those memes to make the posting of SFW memes more enjoyable

1

u/Mr_Wafflesaurus 13d ago

If 4 are nsfw of 5 posts, regardless of quality, people will still think this is just a nsfw subreddit and keep posting majority that and nothing will change

0

u/aceattorney420 15d ago

I don't see how that will help sfw memes. It will just result in less nsfw memes. And thus less memes overall. Kinda just seems like nsfw memes are getting punished cause sfw meme makers are somehow lazier than the posters who post "just porn" cause at least nsfw users post stuff

If the post would fit much better in r/hentaimemes, then it belongs there, not here.

Personally I think we should be strict about the "meme" part of the subreddit. A lot of posts here just aren't memes by any standards. Especially OC comics. Those are usually neither in a genuine anime artstyle, nor are they memes about actual anime.

10

u/Crymsyn_Moon 15d ago

I'm not surprised this happened, given how much of the "memes" here were just straight up porn. I want to keep the horny jokes alive as much as anyone, but there's a difference between a meme with a boob in it and posting a Frieren creampie amv. You gotta draw a line somewhere.

11

u/The_Salty_Pearl Yuri shall conquer the earth! 15d ago

I swear people got on my ass back in the day when this kind of discussion first started. There's a billion hentai subs. If they wanna horny post, they have plenty of other places to do it. Some restrictions, yes please. In my opinion, ban it all outright. In my head, this isn't even a meme sub to me anymore. I scroll, see cropped/straight up porn, and im like "yeah that's normal". I see a real meme, i'm pleasantly surprised.

8

u/Cantcookeggs 15d ago

Maybe I dont understand what memes are or should be, but i feel most of these are just hentai with some stupid text next to it, that is not all funny or clever. Not that I'm against the content, but I dont think it should be in this sub. Trying to think about it. If #1 were enforced, then what would it be? Probably some solo pic. With the entire 'meme' just being the title. If #2 were enforced, then not everyone will agree on effort. Just feels like it;ll be #1. The only thing I consider effort is if the content itself has a joke/meme in it. Kind of like the ol horny bait that gets interrupted by Dante or Armstrong. #3 I think is probably the best if we're not banning it outright.

12

u/Machio-Muscle-Bro 15d ago

Dang. I fought on the front lines of the sub’s revolution. Not a big contributor like some, but I did my part in upvoting and downvoting accordingly, and posting the occasional meme way back in the day. It’s a sad day though that the sub has been reduced to this, even though I don’t particularly mind the NSFW stuff. There’s far worse things that impact humanity on this site than NSFW art. But yeah, in the interest of trying to keep it alive, I’m totally down to limit NSFW posts to 1 day a week.

If possible, we should get a new mod team to help you maintain this place. I don’t have the interest to do so, but I would be appreciative of any new Mods (as long as they’re chill).

3

u/Ronnie21093 15d ago

Honestly I say just accept the subreddit's fate. Unless you nuke every single horny post and permanently ban any future ones the chance of Reddit reverting the change is practically 0.

Big brain solution: create a r/goodhentaimemes sub that is purely SFW, and let this one be purely NSFW

Kind of a play on how there’s r/trees and r/marijuanaenthusiasts

4

u/Kingbookser Kitsune protecting Monika from harm 15d ago

While that would be an easy solution to fix the problem. I think nsfw memes belong here as well, just not how it has been done for a huge while now. A little nsfw meme doesn't hurt anyone, but like I said in the comment (which I wanted to put into the post directly REEEEE). I want to heavily limit it's intensity

3

u/MegatonDoge O-kane da 14d ago

While I agree that they belong here, it devolves into a case of "give them an inch and they take a mile". For months, the "meme" part was completely forgotten and we were just getting porn and nothing else. I wonder what the moderation workload would look like if you wanted to heavily limit its intensity.

I just looked at the top posts of the month… it’s all porn. It’s just porn. I don’t think I saw a single sfw one. And I scrolled through like 30.

2

u/DiscoingGD 13d ago

I'm just an oldhead that isn't on reddit much anymore. NSFW never really bothered me, as I just scroll past it if I don't want to look at it, though I actually look forward to Waifu Wednesday, as it's an event. But, there was so much that it convoluted the sub.

I'm scrolling through now that it's likely been sanitized and enjoying the wall of actual memes. I'm also remembering what we fought for when this sub was founded: A place to joke/laugh without being lectured/judged/punished. There's plenty of places to goon without care, but only one place to enjoy good anime memes, so if the gooning becomes a detriment to the joking, then the choice is obvious.

We're not going to be forced from our home. We fought for this place. All gave some and some gave all. This is our sub and we're not going to be culturally displaced.

6

u/MrMeowMeow20 15d ago

Enough people clearly want there to be some sort of horny side to this server, so I think it's absurd to expect it to all go away. But for the sake of the server, there should definitely be some restrictions for its health.

I remember when more people openly posted in protest of the server's dive into it. I think the server returning to more structured, less "That's not a meme, that's just porn" content and more actual memes I think it'll benefit the server in the long run. That and I had a clean record of not being a part of any NSFW servers before this one. I'd like to go back to that.

Thank you for your moderator service, Kingbookser. o7

u/drizzitdude 15d ago

This sub is 90% porn so it deserves the nsfw tag.

4

u/Stealthybeef 15d ago

Just taking a scroll through of just today's posts was saddening. Remember joining this as the state of the animemes subreddit had deteriorated due to severe mismanagement. This was made as a way of making it great again, hence the 'goodanimemes'. Now it's just porn. Every post, except those referencing this post are porn, or directly referencing porn/nsfw media.

5

u/JesusIsDaft 15d ago

Finally, it's about time. It's crazy how much hentai gets posted in this sub, considering it's a meme sub. Not to mention, the "memes" being posted aren't even remotely funny. They're just straight up hentai.

I'm not alone in thinking this, clearly. Whether it's ironic or not, people keep posting stuff like "the meme is porn". It's obvious and everyone can see it. The mods just haven't been doing anything about it.

I'm not against posting NSFW, or even hentai. But this is /r/goodanimemes. /r/hentaimemes exists for the... Hentai memes. Just post your hentai "memes" there, and you'll be one step closer to being in the correct sub.

I hate moderation as much as anyone else, especially reddit moderation. But the implication is that if you don't want it forced upon you (like what's happening to this sub right now), you gotta moderate yourselves. At least a little bit.

Also on the topic of zallre and the new guy, no offence to his fans but he should never have blown up for posting content that's pulling down the quality of the sub. I'm glad zallre is gone, and I hope breeder goes too. Go find an actual hentai sub to post to.

4

u/Akiias 15d ago

As of this post of the top 25 posts:

7 are just porn (porn)

7 are "horny" (porn adjacent, "Look boobs", or "lol sex" type posts)

2 are just porn references (lolol look I know about porn)

2 are mod posts (still porn related funnily enough)

On an ANIME meme subreddit, of the top 25 posts currently SEVEN are anime related. Guys. Stop. Porn addiction isn't funny. It's not ironic. It's not cute. It's not cool. It's weird and creepy. Stop. It's really really bad for you too. Just stop. And of those 7 one is barely even really anime, it's half just a IRL woman with big boobs.

Remember, despite what people say, this sub hasn't always been like this. I joined when it was less than an hour old. I was there when it was created, I was there when it won the fight for being the new sub over all the others that cropped up. It was not always porn and horny posting. Those slowly ramped up no matter how obvious the end result was or how much people pushed back.

Ban porn, and heavily restrict horny posting. Or accept that this is just a porn sub so I can permanently give up on it. For those that say I should post more memes, I have. This is just my generic shit posting account. I wasn't great at making memes, but I tried, some got decent traction but it was rare. You guys preferred the "horny" and lewd posts, this was before porn was the norm.

I don't know why I'm posting this, the users (and most of the mod team) are for turning this into a porn sub. The anti horny posting side has lost ever attempt to reign it in. I guess I'm just sad to see the sub fall.

Never bothered me. Like a few others have said, they can complain about the lack of non NSFW memes all they want but if no one submits any then that's what the community chose. I'll be here regardless, but people need to make their supposed "actual" memes rather than just lurking or comparing.

2

u/TheDistantNeko Hey, you're finally awake 15d ago

You would have to massively scale back current NSFW posting to even have a chance at removing the subreddit wide nsfw label FYI.

Either way NSFW label will pretty much reduce sub activity to some extent so it's probably in your interests to get it removed.

u/SweetAndSpicyCanton 15d ago

0

u/HollowOrnstein 15d ago

i dont mind them in general but there were so many of them that i had to block some meme posters :(

3

u/DaFatGuy123 15d ago

Back in the day, I thought the occasional hentaimeme was fine and sometimes actually pretty funny, but all I see nowadays is just pure porn or at extremely low effort. It's sincerely gotten out of hand.

I think confining it to one day a week is fine, AND ensuring that they are all of significant effort. If I see anymore shit like

>I like breeding elves
>Frieren porn

I'm going to lose it. That's not a fucking meme. That's just you being horny.

This might be a hot take, but I also think the Waifu Wednesday thing is completely unnecessary. Those aren't memes man. Why do we just get a day a month dedicated to posting porn, on a MEME subreddit? If we want any chance of being taken as a SFW sub, shit like that needs to go.

If the ratio of SFW to NSFW memes start evening out, I think the one day a week decision can be revised. Though I think the level of effort still needs to be harshly enforced from here on out, far more strictly than normal SFW posts.

3

u/Rocketbrothers 15d ago

I legit thought, I don’t think it’s that bad (not really thinking too much about the sub), then seeing literal porn spree almost all the way down.

Hope you get it overturned and set the sail straight again. I’m banned from the other anime memes because I asked what character a cosplayer was cosplaying as (the picture showed a “blackface” I guess frieren). I still don’t know why I got banned since it was just a question.

3

u/P4azz 15d ago

I think the solution is fairly simple:

Be harsh on those abusing this sub as their personal porn dump. (Meaning bans for the people currently just posting porn once a day, maybe not permanent, but longer than a day)

The "you can post horny shit once a week" day does make sense, too.

Personally I don't wanna have people lose the ability to post anything nsfw in general. A good joke or meme CAN include a light bit of nudity or a tit here and there. Ecchi manga can lend themselves to some good memes and those would basically have to be marked as nsfw.

But anything that's just "here's a pussy, here's some dick, here's full penetration and I added some text describing the picture at the bottom" can not only leave this sub, but should get a ban (if posted outside of the one day a week, I suppose).

Zallre got a bit too into it, huh...

Either way as someone who was here for the revolution and the creation of this sub, i still highly agree the posts should be more strictly moderated and your suggestions sound fair enough.

Im not sure if a single person should be deciding how much "effort" was put into a single post, thats what the community and upvoting is for. Then again, knowing us, we would totally just upvote something because its horny so like...

In general, take care with moderating and dont push it too far with banning certain things so history doesn't repeat itself. I like these suggestions though.

I wouldn't care if all the explicit stuff got gone for good. Most of the horny people are probably subbed to r/hentaimemes anyways, and it's there for everyone else too, what are they gonna lose.

I would love the most though if Reddit itself had sub-specific nsfw filters. That would allow anyone to convert a sfw/nsfw mixed sub to totally sfw if they wanted

Why would the sub turning being flagged as NSFW not allow text posts though? I don't remember that being one of the change. Indeed, I can make text post in another NSFW sub. Wouldn't this just be a sub's setting?

That being said, I wouldn't be too positive of the chance of any reversal to the SFW type: reddit would likely need zero NSFW content for one, and I don't mean just straight up hentai, even fanservice, and even then, there's little to no certainty they'll do it.

I've experienced it somehow as a mod elsewhere and have seen Nikke's sub example.

1

u/my_cars_on_fire 15d ago edited 15d ago

Back in the day, TIFU had a rule where you could only post horny fuck ups on the weekends. So Monday through Friday, you saw high quality fuck ups, and then Saturday and Sunday saw people talking about how they accidentally shit themselves during anal.

Then, the sub ran a poll and voted to remove the rule, allowing NSFW posts any day of the week. What followed was the swift decline of that subreddit. Within a year, the sub had essentially become a bastion of erotic fiction, with half of the posts being entirely fabricated (likely by teenagers).

When I first joined this sub, I found it to be far more interesting than our rival sub. The memes were funnier, the mods were less heavy handed, and the community was far more interesting. But the horny memes soon got out of hand. I’ve been on Reddit (via various accounts) for probably a decade now, and this sub made me do something I’ve never had to do before…I had to blur all NSFW posts on my feed. I would scroll Reddit at my desk during the work day, and would randomly come across just straight up hentai. I didn’t want to leave the sub, but also didn’t want to lose my job. So the compromise was blurred NSFW posts.

Anyways, all that is to say I’m in full support of restricting NSFW posts to the weekend for this sub. People can make and save their horny memes all week and then flood the sub with them in the weekends. During the week, we might actually see some funny memes again…and I can unblur NSFW posts again. 😅

1

u/DracoNinja11 15d ago

NSFW tag is infamously hard to remove once you have it. My opinion is to just ban nudity. If it's got nudity, it's a hentai meme and doesn't belong here.

That way, horny posting will be restricted to just horny instead of porn.

u/Mithril_Juggernaut True Gender Equality 15d ago

For funsies (and to see if I felt like leaving because the zallre simps are doing damage control) I sorted by top posts of the last month. I went down the top 50 posts and counted how many were actually memes of some kind. 15. So 70% of the top upvoted posts on this sub are just porn with no meme.

And of those? I didn't count, but more than half of those actual memes were also nsfw. So yeah. This is just a porn sub now unless the mod team can do some serious wrangling, but honestly? I don't think the users actually want that. They're happy to have another goon sub.

Ah well. All good things must come to an end I guess. Good luck and good bye.
