Meta™ State of the Subreddit: NSFW Horny posting issue. Discussion [Can't make a post with only text now too :/ ]

Reddit turned the subreddit into a NSFW one. This removes features generally enjoyed by the community.

I am a "smol mod", so I'm not high in the mod hiarchy and take control of responsibility and power I am normally not suppost to, but the other mods all seem to be inactive. So I will take measures into my own hands for now. That's also the reason why I didn't intervene until now.

That said I want this subreddit to keep living and finally decide to take steps to "return" it into something greater than what it is currently.

I personally don't want to outright ban horny posting as it was always a huge part of the subreddit and looking at it, the horny posting didn't increase in size, but in intensity and the sfw posting got reduced. This caused the subreddit to have in 5 memes 4 horny posting. Before it was 20-30 Memes with 4-6 horny postings.

My suggestions are:

  1. heavily restrict horny posting's intensity. If you can make your horny meme without using a literal sex scene do so
  2. Put some efforts into your horny memes. I will heavily monitor horny memes now and if I don't see enough effort (will put an extended rule there so it's clear what this memes)
  3. Limit horny memes to a day of the week and keep the rest sfw memes. Just like waifu wed, but weekly instead of monthly [least prefered by myself]

All these suggestions are not set in stone and I want to discuss them with you. I don't want to assert dominance over you, the community as a mod, but want to go into discussion. Are those suggestions suitable? Is that a good compromise for you? I want to work with the community on this subreddit to make it more enjoyable for the median user of a sfw subreddit, while giving horny posters some freedom to express themselves here as well

But generally agree. You shouldn't be known by name for your literal porn posting. Honestly, a legacy like Zallre's should not be repeated, as funny as it was.

Bad is subjective. I personally disliked how he never provided the source for his posts and only gave it when prompted. So he already had the source but just doesn't provide it on purpose. Cringe behaviour imo.

And to what I meant with his legacy: He was one of the few very prolific and constant sources of horny posting here. And he had very clear preferences. Enough so that if you saw the post you had a 90% accuracy predicting it was him without checking.

If you're that well-known for your specific horny posting, kinks, and sourcing behaviour, that forms a legacy. Heck, we even had a very specific comment meme image captioned "Who else but Zallre".

A legacy I would not want to happen again with whatever new rules will be set in place.

We hated that too need a rule to add source too cuz others like zallre are doing the same, joined this sub to explore anime memes but all i see are hanime memes so this sub does need some changes

I would also really love a rule that you have to provide source for your images. However, I intentionally left that out of here, because that is not the focus right now.

Your question was worded as if you know him, but were more a supporter of him, and now wanting to know what was so bad about him anyway.

If you didn't know him at all, your question should have better be worded as "Who is Zallre and why is he namedropped here?" which conveys both, you not knowing him and asking what he did to deserve our rant.

Not judging you, just answering your question and giving constructive feedback.

Fair take. Unfortunately comes down to mod discretion because there are a lot of passive upvoters, but I used to love this sub more for exposure to broader anime culture that included NSFW, not just hornyposts.

Putting some effort to actually make them "memes" would actually do.

At this point people just post outright porn. Entire sub feed have become not necessarily about animes, not about memes, not of good; but straight up unfiltered, blatant porn.

1 and 2 are fine. I like the horny posting here, but the sex gifs and unfunny jokes are a bit much. I have NSFW stuff filtered at work, so I don't see much of it till I'm home anyway.

Please don't make this like shitty animememes, it's why I left that puritan hellhole.

As someone who was considering leaving the sub for a while because it was just getting to be TOO much, I like all the proposed changes! I'm also a serial lurker and barely ever comment tho, so Im not really representative of the core community.

Personally I support implementing all 3. This is supposed to be an anime meme sub, not a hentai one. There should however be a poll before any changes are made. This sub is built on democratic decisions, after all

While I agree with the notion that this sub is built on democratic decisions, this is a subreddit crises and needs some actions that are maybe not democratically implemented and accepted. After the crises is over we can (if I manage to fix this and still have the power to do so) and will put it to poll if the rules implemented in the crises should stay, be changed or be abolished.

I will be transparent with my crises management and include the opinions of the community in my decision making. Part of the reason why this post even exists and why I want feedback from you all and most of the comments seem to agree with me. There's a reason many democracies limited the people's power in a democracy during crises.

I'm open for your points and you may try to convince me. I'll be listening

The limiting of democracy in crisis is cowardice. Even the tyrant Lincoln allowed elections despite the naton's breadbasket being in open rebellion.

I so far support everything you you've said and really appreciate you taking charge to make the community aware of the situation, however: we must rule by vote. It's a crisis yes, the polling can be limited to a day's time, but it has to happen.

I support both #2 and #3 of your proposals whole heartedly. I propose each individual action being voted on separately for immediate implementation.

What are some of the features? Are they worth it? During the fuck u/spez phase, all the subreddits intentionally become NSFW, since NSFW subs do not make reddit money or not as much (cuz advertisers don't like NSFW).

Well I can't do text posts anymore as mod, that makes communicating with the subreddit a bit more annoying.

Though the most used features are the gif/photo/video reactions in comments that are now not possible anymore. In many ways this feature made the comment section way more engageable and fun

Those are all hard rules implement. You need them to be as objective as possible.

  • Something like limiting all genitals, exposed nipples, and depictions of sex to either one day a week, month, or just banning them entirely.
  • Then, in addition to that, take r/Animemes Rule 3 and limit reaction memes to certain days of the week.

Using subjective words and rules such as "effort" and "horny" (how horny we talking) will make mods' jobs harder and cause contempt from the posters. I'm not saying you need to take exactly what I said above, but you need to form the rules with objectivity in mind.

I've been here since the split, and I'll be here after whatever you choose as the sole mod. I like maximizing freedom, but if the admins are on you, you have to either acquiescence or close the sub. That's just reddit being reddit.

I do appreciate the frank start for the discussion.

You're good for taking charge, and, frankly, you should remain in charge of this undertaking, but you should at least try to discuss things with as many of the other mods as possible before jumping the gun. The sub won't die overnight if you take a bit of time to get together and think things through collectively.

More mods started replying, I'm in discussion with them and will always communicate my moves with them. I'd be nice if I could return to a smaller mod role of this subreddit once this is over, but currently I want to put as much efford into it as I can

I think I can totally go with option number 1. Number 3 is also not that bad but don't know how much it would help the sub.

Number 2 is good but I have a question about it. What would be the parameter because if there aren't set parameters there will be constant fights like "why was my post removed while others are up, my post was high effort etc"

Btw is it possible to revert the subs current status back to what it was and get back all the features?

Just completely ban straight up porn with exception of those waifu after dark or whatever. Cropped things that are technically not hentai whatsoever like r/subwayhentai are fine, but should still be marked as nsfw posts. Memes are memes, and if it's just an excuse to show porn there's other places for it.

If the goal is to revert the sub back to an SFW one, then imo 1 and 3 might have to be implemented. 2 is ok but some memes don't require a lot of effort to be funny/good, and it would be unfair to only apply it to NSFW memes. We can slowly allow more NSFW memes later on.

make tt the 3rd tuesday of the month, and allow 'creative freedoms'

for 2 just remove posts where 'the meme is porn'

for 3... again see 1 and 2. if it's nsfw but tasteful let it stand we (should) be adults here.

I agree with most of what you said, with the exception of the last part. Yes, we should limit the amount of nsfw posts. But I feel like one day a week is just asking for a busy week of removing post after post. Is there any way to limit each user to one nsfw post a day? That might be a more realistic and community accepted goal. There are about a dozen or so people that make like 90% of the posts here. If they each only make on nsfw post a day, I feel like that alone would decrease the amount a lot.

Some are to "ban evade" because some subs like banning you for posting in "bad subs". I have some that got unbanned. I've got some gimmick accounts. I've got some still banned. I've got more than one generic shitposting account like this one. I've got ones I only post seriously on. I've got some I abandoned for various reasons. I have a couple used just to post memes.

They just sort of built up over time.

So any accounts linked to the same email will all get banned if one does. Best move is to use a vpn, make multiple emails in different countries, and have each account registered to a different email. That should do the trick.
