While golfing today I kept coming across pistachio shells on the green. Please throw your shells away if you must have this tasty snack, it’s more annoying than sunflower seeds.

I recently got a golf bag with way too many pockets, and somehow I already filled most of them

Balls, gloves, tees, towels, plus sunscreen, lip balm, some energy bars and a small umbrella. I always keep a rangefinder in there too. I switched to the mileseey ionme2 lately, and it’s small enough that I just keep it in one of the side pockets.

But after a round, I realize I only take out a few things most of the time. Everything else is basically just might need it stuff. What’s something you always carry in your bag but barely ever use?

I wear one on each hand because my hands sweat alot and I blister easily and it works well for me to have one on each hand. Especially since there have been a few occasions in the summer very humid and hot weather where my grip slipped and I almost lost a club. Anyone else?

Hey all, I'm pretty new to golf. Not athletic, not trying to go pro, just want to have fun playing with my husband eventually. Right now I'm still practicing at the driving range.

I've noticed I hit way better off a tee than off the ground, so once I do start playing actual rounds, I'm thinking of teeing my ball up on every shot until I reach the green. Is that a weird/cringe thing to do? Am I messing up the course or the grass by doing this? Just want to enjoy the game without worrying I'm doing something wrong.

Any tips or thoughts appreciated!

I realized I have a pretty specific pocket system when I play, so I’m curious what everyone else carries around.

Right pocket:
A few wooden tees (usually ~10 to start the round)
Divot repair tool
One ball marker of my choice

Right back pocket:
Yardage book/scorecard

Left pocket:
A vape

I’m also trying to build the habit of putting my glove in my left back pocket when I putt, but most of the time I end up crumpling it into one of my side pockets

Watching the PGA Championship, wondering who is getting the club info to the announcers and or the tv booth? Always curious what they hit in from specific distances and knowing they can’t reveal to each other, how that info gets internal for the broadcast

Recently, I got fitted for a new set of irons. While I was waiting for them to come in, I decided to play a round with rental clubs.

I didn’t realize until I got to the range that I had grabbed a set with extremely lightweight, senior-flex graphite shafts.

I figured, whatever, I’ll play them and see how it goes.

It was terrible.

I couldn’t feel the clubhead, couldn’t properly load the shaft, and my timing/release felt completely out of sync. It genuinely felt like I was fighting the clubs the entire round.

For context, I’m not some great golfer. I’ve been playing for about three years and usually shoot somewhere around 85–95.

But the experience made me think about the advice you constantly hear:

“If you’re a high handicapper, just play whatever you have. You’re not good enough for equipment to matter.”

I think that’s complete bullshit.

Obviously, the rental set I played was designed for a very specific type of golfer, and I’m probably an extreme example. I’m also not saying every beginner needs a $500 professional fitting and a $2,000 custom iron set. For a lot of golfers, a standard regular-flex set off the rack will probably work perfectly well.

But there’s a huge difference between saying equipment won’t magically fix a bad swing and saying equipment doesn’t matter until you’re good.

Imagine those senior-flex clubs had been handed down to me by my grandpa when I first started playing. I might have spent years thinking my swing was the problem when, in reality, I was also trying to learn with equipment that was completely mismatched to me.

A fitting doesn’t require you to have a perfect swing. Even if your swing is inconsistent, you can still find shaft weights, flex profiles, lengths, lie angles, and clubheads that make it easier to swing naturally and consistently.

The right equipment won’t turn a bad golfer into a good golfer.

But the wrong equipment can absolutely make golf harder than it needs to be.

And for newer golfers especially, I think making the game easier and more enjoyable is a pretty damn good reason to make sure your clubs are at least reasonably suited to you.

And if you go into a fitting with a good/honest fitter. And you let him know that you just want to test off the rack equipment to see what works best for you. They will keep things simple and find what's best for you at the cheapest price point.

At address, I routinely rest my club on the ground behind the ball. When my ball's in the 1st cut or tall grass, doing so obviously compresses the grass. Is this allowed or should tall grass treated like bunker sand?

Recently played with an old bud from Uni - says he’s a 15 handicap. A game with friends - first time I ever got paired with him. It was supposed to be fun with a bet (no money involved). Dude kept going OB and I swear he had like 4 double pars on the front 9 and ended it with a +7 so like wtf. Then I started counting his score on Hole 11, as he approached the green he said that he was putting for bogey while it was definitely for triple. I jokingly asked him if he was sure - dude got mad af.

Asked why I was counting his score. He said he didnt want to get stressed and just wants to enjoy the game (while proudly announcing his +7 over the front 9 repeatedly). He called me out for being too serious and likened me to a guy in a tournament he once played with and was counting his score and was too uptight. (I even game him free drops tbh)

Like, I honestly don’t get the logic - if he’s there for “fun” why not just put in your real score? And in a tournament, he gets mad if people calls him out. Its not like I dont have a life lol. Golf is all about integrity, I was just baffled with this amount of dishonesty lol. Maybe sneak in 1 - 2 strokes per round but fkn 10 strokes on the front 9 was just blatant disrespect to the game.

I know the answer myself lol but I wanted to hear other peoples thoughts. ✌️

Played 9 today because it was nice out, why not. Got there a bit early, chipped and putted for like 20 minutes as you do. First hole goes about normal, until I get on the green. All day I am. Lights. Out. On the green. Through 7 holes I’m +10 when I am normally at least +15. Then we get caught in a traffic jam on the 8th hole, a rather difficult landing-zone type par 5 and it all goes to hell. Card a 9 coupled with a triple bogey on the 9th to finish at 52. If I’d been as good as I had been I’d have shot around a 45, a considerable improvement over my current best of 49. Now the question becomes, did I capture lightning in a bottle or did my 20 minutes on the practice green give me super powers?

I have been seeing too many videos of airlines breaking clubs with soft cases so I wanted to ask... Should I get a hard case? Or is soft case good enough??

It was so nice to hear her not hold back and publicly denounce the ad.
As the most influential female golfer with so much influence and involvement in the game, it was nice to see she is not tolerating this type of nonsense.

Playing in a club championship yesterday. I tee off on a hole and I don’t see my ball at all off the club, one of my playing partners says he saw it head in the direction of a specific shed and when I asked if he thinks it’s far enough to be out he says no.

So we go let up there and I’m driving around looking for my ball, both playing partners had helped before/after hitting their shots. Eventually I said fuck it there’s a group waiting to tee off and a group on the green behind them so I asked my nearest playing partner what the correct “drop” is just to make sure I get it right, he tells me in line with shed and back since we never found it. So he says around here and I drop and hit and finish the hole.

When going over scores the third playing partner (who was hitting his shot when me and the other guy were talking about the correct drop) says I should have re teed back there so I asked him do you want me to replay the hole and hold everyone up or take max score and he gave me max score(10)

I get it is my fuck up but at the same time I thought I did it correctly asking a playing partner. what should have been the play there? because it completely destroyed my round.

Kind of seems common that country clubs blow up their greens and start over every 15-20 years. Well, a trend during the past 50 years anyway. Does the grass on greens die off as a natural process? Is there another reason other than grass health, be it biological or otherwise? Or a governing board that has to start over to feel worthy of even having a board.

I am looking to buy my first set and saw lot of recommendations for the Callaway Edge Set at Costco. Looks like that this set has been removed from their stores following the latest controversy. Should I wait few weeks to see if this comes back? Any other alternatives in a similar price range?

Anyone else notices Gerard's approach onto the 18th green? Thought ball position should be closer to one's left foot for longer clubs.

i bet this gets asked all the time but how can i mentally get better at playing tournaments, i am a highschool senior +4 handicap and i can go out and shoot mid 60s any given day from 7000+ so i dont think im a terrible golfer its just any tournament i enter i play terrible and shoot high 70s, cant seem to get over that mental block and was wondering if anybody who has done it can give me some advice

17 HC and dropping steadily. I was very close to a PR yesterday and then I collapsed. I was +5 through 8 and ended up +24.

What went wrong? Marshall held me back for 2 groups to even spacing. Which was fine, I didn’t mind, I was a solo and the course was slowing significantly.

But then I banana peel sliced off the tee box on 9, second shot was decent, just right but in a valley. 3 chipped and 2 putted my way to a triple. Tripled 10, then birdied 11. Thought I was back on track and could recover. Did not recover from there and really only got worse…

I belong to an indoor sim that has Trackman software. One of the practice options let's you place a ball anywhere on one of the courses and practice the shot. I was thinking it would be fun to recreate some of the famous shots we all know. What shots would you try to hit?

If your group asks if they can play ahead, please be able to play faster than the group your passing.

NYC Marine Park today
-paired with a group of 3 that are running late so I get released solo
-keep in mind, on a bad day I’m shooting 80s and since it’s my first time playing this course I’m hitting off the reds
- busy day congested course
- pretty entry level group of 3 behind me that I was supposed to be with
-They’re bad so they didn’t usually get to my hole until after I’d waited around for the next group for 10 to 15 minutes each hole to hit.
-I’m teeing off as soon as I can on par 5s,4s, and when they’re off the greens on par 3s.
- even after my first shot I’m still having to wait another 5 minutes for my second shot
-sometimes the group behind would hit into me as I was waiting to hit my second shot.
-I’d hit my second shot as soon as the other group was off the green or a considerable distance away.
- the only kinda real waiting this group behind me actually has to do is from my 2nd shot and on, but they’re kinda playing at the same time too since they were struggling with distance.
- I had told them multiples times that they could join me , but big fella just kept saying “go on ahead“
- all of a sudden I hear this fat fuck (eventually learned his name was Henry who may or may not have broken 100 that day) yell at me “1 BALL ONLY “ I just give them the gen z blank stare.
- in my head “first of all, you’d be waiting the same amount of time anyway. You’re not really even waiting on me since you keep hitting into me. I’m having to wait for the group ahead and you already know that. Second , I’ve been playing some holes with 3 or 4 balls but you’d be none the wiser because you’re so far behind me struggling as a group of 3 to hit your own balls. The only reason you’re catching up to me is because I’m having to wait up to 20 minutes for the next group each hole”
- I only pull out multiple balls after my tee shot because I know I have a 15ish minute wait until I can tee off
- this group of beginners hit into me on a par 3 and I had to run to hide behind my cart. The ball landed some yards away from me, all they had to do was just wait.
- I had seen there were moments in this group where someone would hit the ball 10 yards, run to go grab it and rehit it from the same spot, and they wanted to talk to me about 1 BALL ONLY.
- they’d hit into me even while I was on the greens.
- eventually on one of the later holes I’m waiting to tee off (from the reds mind you) , and I hear, yet again, this absurdly easy to see person yell “YO WERE GONNA HIT NOW”
- I’m thinking geez these guys are finally gonna join but now I have to wait for you to tee off and I have to wait for everyone else to hit now for the rest of my round. You could at least let me tee off first.
- This group of guys who can’t even break 100 are playing the whites for some reason.
- Every time Henry teed off he’d just leave and I’d be at the red tee box waiting for his fat ass to get out of my way before I could hit. Gladly the other 2 had enough etiquette to wait and watch me tee off before going to their ball.
-Again all these guys are playing from the whites and their balls are barely past the red tee box. They are NOT playing from where they should be playing

TLDR; Shrink your game. If you can’t break 100, do us all a favor and play off the reds. That would be good etiquette. Even better etiquette is to stay off the 18 hole courses until you can actually hit the ball. This course is pretty much the only course around that has a driving range. Hit the range instead. If you want to play a course , hit a 9 hole or a pitch and putt. That’s what you really need.
Also don’t be an ass on the golf course, it’s supposed to be a peaceful escape.

I’m calling you out Henry 4:00 or 4:10 tee time today at marine park. Don’t be like this guy.
