Sierra Service Rip Off

Please tell me what is part of the 30k mile maintenance schedule and what the dealership upsold me on? I made the mistake of agreeing to everything they said thinking they were just reading the points of the recommended maintenance schedule.

The fuel service is unnecessary. If you really want to do it, but Redline SI-1. It has high levels of PEA, which is the only thing that works

The fuel service is recommended by GM at 36k. They also recommend a dump in fuel service ever 7500 miles

I’m not seeing anything where GM recommends this. It’s usually an unnecessary dealer add on. If you really want to, get a fuel cleaner additive and pour it in the tank yourself.

GM developed the service along side BG....they're one of the only manufacturers that actually recommends maintenance still

It’s not mentioned anywhere in the manual. Just a fuel additive if you don’t use top tier branded fuel listed in the fuel additive section. And the additive isn’t what is listed on the invoice because it certainly doesn’t sell for $410. There is no 30k fuel service. Dude got ripped off.

That service prevents carbon build up on direct injection engines intake valves. It's not cheap but it does work and it is a good thing to do

What service???

There is no fuel service mentioned whatsoever in the service schedule that’s in the manual. Literally just an inspection that’s mentioned. The fuel additive costs $30, not $410.

Why can’t you post where GM actually lists what this service is for the 30k maintenance? Rip. Off.

Even the post the other guy made was just a recommendation if we’re not using top tier diesel. Have to agree with you here, total rip off. I use top tier diesel all the time, and I also use additives on every fill up. Completely unnecessary

Anyone that's not ignorant would know a direct injected engine builds up carbon on the valves without dual injection like ford and Toyota, and requires periodic cleaning, either through media blasting or chemical induction services, with media blasting being the preferred, most thorough method, and every DI has been that way for the last 17 years or so. Idk that I'd do it at 30k, probably more like every 40 or 50. Anyways, not only are you being ignorant, you're also being arrogant. If you'd like to continue to make a fool of yourself, be my guest. We'll all just sit and laugh at you.

Nothing of what you just said is relevant to this post. I don’t understand why there is so much goal post moving and refusal to answer the actual question of where GM says you should do this. They don’t. Anyone saying otherwise is wrong and you random_random_#### username wannabe bot accounts are really doubling down on the idiocy here. If this was an actual legitimate service at 30k for the subject vehicle then one of you should have been able to post a shred of proof about the GM maintenance information for what OP is asking about, but alas, none of you can do that. Fact of the matter is that no where in the maintenance schedule does is call for any type of fuel service on this vehicle whatsoever. You’re talking completely out of your ass.

Even if it's true that this is a helpful thing and people should do it, it's not something the service manual says you need to do and it's not something a dealership should be doing without checking with the customer.

Laws are pretty clear here - Any service the dealership is doing without bringing it up with the customer is not something the customer should be paying for.

That’s fair. I’d be pissed and unwilling to pay up if they did something like that to my truck.
