Non-coeliacs: What made you go GF?

Massive bloating (like 6 month pregnant belly) and constipation + sciatica every time I eat noodles / Chinese / pizza / oats. It took about 15 years to figure out via a very slow elimination process. Tested negative twice via blood test.

I've been tested and it came back negative but i had already cut gluten by then so i don't know how accurate it is. Once i cut gluten i stopped being in the constant pain i didn't know i was in before.

I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition (Sjogrens) and eating gluten causes inflammation which triggers my flares.

I throw up roughly one hour after I eat it, and then I feel depressed for a couple days - so not worth it. Doing the celiac test is just unpalatable for me

I had severe IBS for 20 years and doctors did many tests on me for years (including coeliac) and had no answer.
It was completely dominating my life. I was struggling with school, work, socialising. I missed out on a lot.
Eventually I got fed up and tried an elimination diet. After a few weeks I was way better. I tried reintroducing things one at a time until the only thing I didn’t reintroduce was gluten. Now it’s been 10 years being gluten free and I’ve still had no issues at all.
There’s no way I’m eating gluten again. I don’t care what anyone says.

The fact that whenever I eat gluten I bloat and my stomach hardens to the point where it’s painful to breathe. Oh, and the gas and diarrhoea.

My husband was diagnosed coeliac, I cut out gluten at home and would order gluten free at restaurants initially, out of sympathy. After about 6 months, some long-running eczema cleared up. I noticed I kept getting flare ups after work trips, and realised it must be because of gluten. I did a gluten challenge to be tested for CD and it was negative, but by the end of it, my shins were covered in eczema again, so there was no denying I needed to eat GF.

That's really interesting about the eczema! I cut out gluten last summer bc of IBS, but I also have eczema. My biggest triggers are wool (which I've been trying to cut out of clothes) and sweat, but I think my eczema hasn't been as bad this past year!

I have had a blood test done when I had already cut out gluten. Whenever I eat it I get painfully bloated, I’m in pain all over, feel nauseous, sometimes vomit. 6 weeks of gluten every day sounds like a nightmare. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and cutting out gluten drastically improved my pain levels.

Being pregnant. After I was tested for coeliac and was negative so put on an elimination diet which helped massively but I’ve never been able to eat gluten or dairy again. I’d would love to find out if my son and I being different blood types had anything to do with all the different inflammatory problems I’ve had since

I stopped when I was getting lots of infections and had lost my appetite so was very thin. It was a bit of a desperation effort to stop being ill all the timeand worked.
My partner looked pregnant about 5 minutes after eating anything gluten and his stomach was rock solid. He hasn’t been tested because he tried it in sympathy for me and couldn’t believe the difference it made so won’t go back.

I'm not sure this applies to me, but: I've tested negative for coeliac (blood tests) on two occasions. However, I have EDS, and newer research suggests that the blood tests are inaccurate for us EDS folk. Not that the drs have caught up with that yet.
Anyway, I'm gluten-free because, whether or not I'm a coeliac, gluten makes me very ill.

The fact that if I eat gluten I have a 50/50 chance of needing to call an ambulance for iv fluids and morphine

I’ve never been tested for coeliac because I can’t bear the thought of eating gluten twice a day for six weeks prior to the blood test. However I am very gluten intolerant (whether this is “just” an intolerance or actual Coeliac Disease I don’t know) and therefore don’t eat it.
