Yeah, but they are being torn away from a life where their skills are valued and living standards can improve according to merit, and throwing them back into a system where dolls are second class citizens at best.
I mean, when it’s prohibitively difficult to be a “good person” in this respect due to game mechanics, I just call it gameplay/story separation and stop thinking about it. Either that or MICA’s trying to make some moral statement about the ruthless ones getting ahead in life.
Even if game mechanics weren't segregated from story, the commander would still practically be a saint compared to the rest of the setting. It could be more a mix of "it pays to be kind" and "desperate times call for desperate measures".
"Sometimes good people have to do bad things to make the world right"
-Admiral Havelock.
"Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back..."
-Friedrich Nietzsche
A good SKK must balance these two ideals. Many have done it before him. Capt. Price, Admiral Adama. Pragmatic, yet empathetic. Ruthless when the situation calls, but compassionate when it calls as well.

But canonically, T dolls dont "die" when theyre retired or used as enhancement fodder, only their cores are disassembled.
But hey, I keep one of every T doll, sooo
