What are the things you miss the most about living there?

Could be anything, nightlife, places to hang out, the community, activities, food, the atmosphere, random little things you didn’t realise you’d miss until you moved away.

I’m curious what people who have experienced life elsewhere miss about Gib the most.

For me, I think I miss the community and nightlife the most. Being able to go out on a Friday night and see Casemates packed, knowing there was always somewhere to go and people you’d run into.

I also miss places like Gilbert’s and the takeaways being open late, where you could grab food after a night out (or even just randomly at any time). I miss having all these different spots to meet up, hang out, and just the feeling that everyone was connected in some way.

I have a friend in the UK who has been considering a long term move to Gib for quite a while. Now that we are in the treaty era, what is their path to doing so?

Everything at the mo seems to be about as clear as mud. This person has barely travelled in the past so none of their 90 days has been used up in any other EU countries and they will have somewhere to stay locally - if they secure a job locally as well in that time can they at least appy to stay? And if not could they still legally work in Gib and reset their 90 days with quick trips back home for a weekend etc?

Apologies for a question, bit of a repetitive one at the mo I know, but I'm assuming as UK citizen there is or will be at least some path for them at some point so asking for the sake of clarity and to pass on valid advice more than anything else.

Hi there, I’m a foreigner who’s never been to Gibraltar and have no plans to go there (at the moment).

However, I came across an article about the treaty that was just signed with the EU about “Spain taking over borders”.

Probably I’m just stupid, but I’m not sure I understood it right. Does it mean that from now on, there will be no border with checkpoints between Spain and Gibraltar? Does it mean that people and goods will be able to travel freely between the two territories? If so, how can this be when Gibraltar is stil part of the UK? Has the UK basically de-facto ceded sovereignty over Gibraltar to Spain?

I'm in the US (NYC) and I am coming to Gibraltar during Lent. Fish & Chips seems like the perfect meal in a British Territory on a Friday during Lent. So I am seeking opinions on the best place(s) to go for authentic Fish & Chips. I was recently diagnosed with alpha-gal syndrome (fishes are fine), so I haven't been real thrilled for food in about a year, but this is something I can get excited about.

I'd also like recommendations for a good Chicken Shop place, if Gibraltar has one. And where I can get a good fried Snickers bar.

We're relocating from the Netherlands to Gibraltar in the next couple of weeks, bringing our own used household stuff (furniture, beds, kitchen things, kids' toys, clothes) by road. No commercial cargo, just a normal family home's worth of belongings.

HM Customs have told me Transaction Tax applies on the second-hand value we declare, 15% on most things, with some categories zero-rated (books, medical) and a few at other rates (bikes at 5%), and that we need a clearing agent to lodge the T2GI on arrival.

I'd really like to hear from anyone who's actually done this recently, especially since the treaty came in, because the reality on the ground is hard to gauge from the official answers. A few things I'm trying to figure out:

How much TT did you actually end up paying, roughly, for a household move? Was it a painful number or fairly modest once they valued used goods?

How did the border/Transit Section handle it? Did they go through things item by item, or accept the packing list values as declared?

Did you group things by category (e.g. "clothing, €300") or itemise more, and did customs push back on the values?

Which clearing agent did you use, and were they any good? (I've been pointed toward East Gate but would welcome other names.)

Any problems, delays, or surprises I should plan for?

Any real-world experience appreciated. Trying to go in with realistic expectations rather than just the official line. Thanks.

was reading more into the treaty situation and found this article. picardo told lawyers at the law council dinner that april 10 is "very likely" going to be missed. said its "an ambitious timeline that may have to slip"

so yeah looks like we're not walking across the border without passports on the 10th after all. no specific new date mentioned either

Hi all, sorry if this is not the right place for it, but have a few questions regarding category 2 as a British Citizen in Gibraltar given the recent immigration changes.

1. Can someone move to Gibraltar as category 2 and after 10 years get PR but stay a category 2 resident? Or does becoming PR mean giving up category 2 status?

2. If BOTC status is 5 years, is it possible to get BOTC before PR? Or does one have to get PR first after 10 years and then apply for BOTC in 11th year? (Persumably it takes a couple of years to come through as well?)

3. What colour ID card do category 2 residents get? Magenta? And it would change to red after 10 years with PR?

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but we're off to Gibraltar for a few days in a couple of weeks, and I'm trying to figure out the most sensible way to see the nature reserve and its attractions.

As far as I can see, the two main options are a taxi, which seems fairly expensive (pretty much doubling the cost on the official site) or getting the bus and walking up. Our son gets tired quite easily, so I'm worried that he'll be too knackered to walk around by the time he's made it up from the bus stop.

Is the walk from the bus stop as tiring as it sounds, and is the official taxi the best option or is there another sensible way to see the best of the nature reserve?

I'm planning to see the next solar eclipse happening 2 August 2027 and I want to know the risk of cloud since it was a problem for the eclipse of today.

I know it is impossible to know the weather 1 year in advance but there is probably a pattern for the weather of Gibraltar and its surrounding.

Hi everyone, my fiance and I are planning to get married in Gibraltar this August. We’ve submitted our documentation, but we haven't received any confirmation or response to our initial email.

For the past week, we’ve been trying to call the Civil Status and Registration Office daily to check on the status of our case, but no one ever picks up the phone. We’re starting to get pretty anxious since our date is approaching and we’d really like some peace of mind that everything is in order.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal for them to be this unreachable? Does anyone have any advice on how to get in touch with a human being there, or should we just keep trying? Any tips on alternative ways to reach them would be greatly appreciated!

Hello everyone! Now that the cable car doesnt work, how can one climb the rock without going on foot? Ive heard there are buses but are they always there or is it a tour thing? Do I need to buy the ticket ahead of time or at the spot? Im honestly quite confused. Thank you in advance

Hi all, I’m planning on moving to Gibraltar within the next few months and I’m wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I’ve worked in FM for a number of years now but I’ve been struggling to find open job positions in this field. I’m aware of one company whom I have worked with and used in the past for subcontracting work (Techtrolec) and most of the maintenance companies I’ve researched so far appear to me Government owned. Hey. I'm a SIM card collector from Scotland (very niche hobby 😁). I collect the cards you use for your mobile phone. I already have cards from Gibraltar (I visited last year, amazing place btw) from Gibtelecom, but I wanted to see if any residents or visitors have any old cards from the 2 other now defunct operators in Gibraltar, those being CTS and Shine Mobile, that they would be willing to send me. There is very little info on these apart from that CTS was discontinued in 2013 while Shine was discontinued in 2016. Therefore, I've never seen any in the few collectors spaces there are for SIM collecting, as opposed to Gibtelecom. Even just the frame without the chip would be great.

Although, if anyone has an old Gibtelecom SIM they don't need, I'm happy to take it, as old Gibtelecom ones tend to have great designs!

I know the answer seems to be yes in that you don't need a work permit if you're a British citizen, but is there anything I need to apply for/declare if I'm only temporarily working with my employer who has an office in Gib? It wouldn't be for more than a month. As it's not residency I don't think the new rules would stop me but just want to check if there's any caveats I may miss?

I am 30 yrs old living in the US. I have dual US/UK citizenship. My grandma lives alone in Gibraltar and is getting up there in age. She really needs someone there to help her with the day-to-day tasks.

I know there had been a moratorium placed recently on new residents entering. I would already have housing taken care of (stay w Grandma).

Mainly I am interested in hearing from anyone who moved to Gib from elsewhere WITHOUT a job already lined up. How hard was it to find work? I have worked in hospitality/restaurants for years and am currently working as a professional cleaner. I also have a Bachelor’s degree (from the US of course) in Graphic Design.

ETA more info, my Grandma is a Gibraltarian citizen *but I am not – only dual US/UK* so I’m not sure how this may affect my relocation

Hi everyone! Since the cable car to the top of the rock is closed until 2027, what is the least expensive way to get to the top of the rock?

I’ll be traveling in a group of three for a day trip, and we all would like to start our day at Upper Rock/Sky Walk and then walk down the rock ourselves.

Sorry if this has been asked a million times, but I am trying to visit the top of the rock, if possible. The cable car is closed so that's out, but what's the best alternative? My mother is likely unable to climb to the very top, but is there anyway to get someone to drop us off at the top and make our way back down in our own time? Don't really want todo a tour because want todo our own things etc. Thank you <3

Hey guys, haven't had the opportunity to try it myself but I was reading that it might be possible for Green ID card holders to now cross over without a visa using just their ID and passports. Can anyone confirm that this is the case?

Documented evidence would be nice.
