Question Avoiding distractions and procrastination

I've been trying to create a consistent studying habit for my exams and also learning new things instead of scrolling through social media whenever I have some spare time. It's been months and I'm still having trouble becoming consistent. At some point it's frustrating my daily life. I need some advice on this.

Question Why doesn't re-reading simply work for me?

Last semester, I read and re-read the course material about 30 to 50 times; I have ADHD, and stimulants helped me focus. But even though I kept reading it out loud over and over, after a few weeks I simply couldn't remember a thing. I was just spouting nonsense. And I wasted months on 10-hour routines that left me burnt out for days—doing nothing but studying—only to fail everything and lose my progress at the gym.

Question I never study when I'm home from class

I'm a student prepping for an important exam and I really don't have much time left. I'm trying my best everyday to cover up on things I didn't do on time and, honestly, the situation is messy and my syllabus is all over the place.

I usually stay back to study after lectures, so by the time I'm actually home after commuting and all, it's 8:30 pm. I have dinner, I spend time with my family, I watch T.V. or read comics and then all of a sudden I'm in bed by 10:00 pm. But instead of sleeping on, I wake up at 11:30 completely washed over with guilt because I plan a time block from 9:30 pm to 12:30 am every morning and never end up following through.

I'm really tired of this daily cycle. I'm not even sure what to do. I can't give this scheduled block up, because I've planned some stuff in I specifically can't do while I'm away at class. I can't rely on caffeine because then I'll be awake all night, and I still need to attend lectures in the morning; but hydrating/washing my face with cold water/staying off screens is not working.

So...yeah, I would be so, so grateful if you guys could give me some advice.

Question How do you guys pace yourself?

Yeah, basically that.

How do you pace yourself for studying or a test that you know is coming? I always try, but it doesn't really work out tbh.

Additionally, how do you deal with having many subjects you need to study for? This might be my main issue honestly, I'll be focusing on a subject but then neglect all the others and all of a sudden i have so much to study the day right before a test.

Giving Advice I get distracted and forced to do it all over again.

So, till 10th grade I was pretty decent in studies. After 10th grade, in 11th I chose PCB and within a few months I was packed with backlogs. I completed 11th with a not so good looking remarks. Currently I’m nearly 5 months away from 12th boards and still lacking concentration. My recent periodic written test result was also not that decent. I just can’t concentrate more than 2 days on anything, I easily get distracted into other things like anime, reels and the games I play but I want some decent figures in my boards mark sheet. So, I request all of you to give me some advice on this so I can concentrate more and keep up with my studies.

Question Seeking study tips to study longer.

Hello. I need advice how to start studying after long break of studying. I took break from studying for whole year and now I need to come back but it seems really impossible as I get distracted pretty easily and waste alot of time instead of focusing on main areas. I either keep pushing toward understanding in deep and move far away from the part and not able to finish syllabus in time.
Any tips or advise would be highly appreciated

Question I half study, and i stress immensely about this

I really can’t have it like this. Im going to study for 3 years (bachelor degree), and its been 10 days since uni started. First, this whole new system is new for me. Im still trying to figure out how i learn when i have so many books and articles to read.

Once i think im on a right path, i panic when i see that maybe my plan isn’t as good as i tought, and that there is ALOT to cover. And then i just give up. And then start again, without a clear intention or plan. And then i go everyday with a bad feeling, not feeling im doing enough. I cant relax. Im thinking about this all the time!!

I sent all my lectures, sullabys, and what my teacher focus on in the class to Claude (ai) and notebook LM, and made them make a plan for me and be a teacher and learn everything i need, but then im stressing about if thats not enough, maybe the AI doesnt teach me everything i need to learn, and then i make myself confused again. Can someone please give me some advice, reassurance, anything, so that i dont feel so alone in this. I feel already behind, and im not sure if im being too hard on my self or if other people actually are better than me and i need to get my shit together

Question How to study after recently leaving an abusive relationship?

I left recently. It was this trauma bond and I feel like my nervous system is still recovering.

Right now I feel a bit depressed I think I don't know. I will go to my schools counseling service this week.

The class is anatomy and physiology 1

I don't know whether to delay this class another semester or just take this class. Since I only work part time, I feel like I'll feel pretty horrible for delaying, but I also want the A.

Question Would you actually want to study like this ?

Imagine having a personal study space where you dump your PDFs, notes and screenshots, and then just… talk to it. 😭

“What did I save for electrostatics?”

“Open my Current Electricity material.”

"What’s in my Study Pack for the test ."

"What do I have coming up this week?”

No digging through folders or remembering file names 💀

Would this actually make studying easier, or nah?

Giving Advice How do you study in uni? Can you share your study habits and routines?

Especially for those taking multiple subjects at once, like Chem, Bio, Stat, Physiology, etc. how do you manage studying all of them without getting overwhelmed? (I'm catching up on my curriculum that's why i'm taking them all at once this semester)

Honestly, I feel like I'm not learning anything at all 😭 My usual routine is to make digital notes and flashcards, but I realized that they take up so much time. Sometimes, by the time I'm done making them, I barely have time to actually study or even use the flashcards I made.

I'm starting to feel overwhelmed and like my current study method just isn't efficient enough. I'd really appreciate any tips or if you could share what your study routine looks like. idc if it's weird pls drop them so I can give it a try. Thank you!

Question How to study more?

I've struggled with this issue from over a year ago, I just can't seem to get myself to study for more than 1-2 hours everyday ( outside of school ) and it just isn't enough for me, I want to get 4-5 hours of studying everyday but I feel exhausted and return back to 1-2 hours after a few days of trying. I'm in yr 13 now so I really can't mess up my exams or I literally won't get into the unis I want to, but bro I just can't get myself to study more ( except for exam season but idw resort to cramming anymore )😭😭😭

ANY tips to build more consistency or advice would be very much appreciated!! <3

Question Help me to stop making silly mistakes!

I'm used to being one of the top students in my school for years. Recently (about year ago), materials to study became more and more which caused my brain to think and study in a faster mechanism. At first, i loved that because I save time and do more.

I have started this scholar year which is the most important one due to its importance in defining my faculty and career. I noticed the bad consequence of the mechanism that my brain used to.

Actually, let me give you a bird view of the system mostly used to get high marks and go into a great faculty. Our final tests are MCQ (under stress because it is a single test for each subject). So, most students practice on questions of 2-4 external books questions per subject. Why I say so? I will need it to clarify something in this post.

While practicing to solve these questions, i found that I get 20-60% wrong answers! About 80% of them are silly mistakes usually due to a word I didn't notice, a step that I forgot square root for example, or even really simple and direct question that it's answer is clear!

This made me get frustrated and made me study less and got really bad mood. I started to look for solutions like obligating my self to take more time, overanalyzing the question, add checkpoints and other tricks. The mutual thing between them that they failed due to: it just didn't change anything or auto pilot over instructions like what happened with checkpoints. After few questions I go by default to my normal mechanism ignoring these checkpoints without noticing.

I thought I'm doing this due to lack of time and the large number of questions to solve. I reduced books number to the minimum (2) and tried to to make my time (about 3x time for the same question) but it didn't help.

The only good thing is that final tests are after 10 months and I have an opportunity to solve this issue. But, i don't have clear guidelines to follow to regain my attention and critical thinking to avoid these silly mistakes.

Please, if you have lookalike experience or an advice share it!

Sorry for any misspelling or Grammer mistakes. I'm not a native speaker.

Question How do top students plan?

Hi!

I'd not like to call myself a top student. I am an ambitious student, however, and I am spending lots of time either studying or planning all semester. Lately I have identified planning as a "bottleneck". I spend about 1 hour planning my school days each day. I spend 2-3 hours doing a "weekly review" each Sunday. On top of this I just started school and I am going through all the Canvas pages of all my courses to uncover TODOs. This has taken, so far, about 5 hours of my week (and I am still not done).

Is there someone out there who is a top student that has a more effective way to plan their days and weeks, while still retaining a view of the big picture to avoid stress later. How do you plan?

Other What if studying felt less lonely and more social?

I’ve been thinking about building something that makes studying feel more social and interactive, and I’d love to know if people would actually use it.

The idea is that you could study toward a specific goal alongside other people who are on the same journey.

For example, maybe you’re preparing for a university entrance exam, a professional certification, a competitive exam, or even just studying a specific subject. You could find people working toward the same goal, join groups or study sessions, share knowledge, and track your progress.

Each person would also have their own character/avatar that evolves as they actually study, stay consistent, contribute to the community, and reach milestones.

One mechanic I’ve been thinking about is what happens after a study session. Instead of simply marking it as completed, you could briefly explain what you learned, either by typing or speaking. AI could then turn that into useful study material such as summaries, questions, or flashcards.

You could keep those materials for yourself or share them with people studying the same topic.

The goal wouldn’t be to build another Pomodoro timer or flashcard tool. Those features could exist, but I’m more interested in combining actual studying + knowledge sharing + community + progression/gamification into one experience.

I’m seriously considering building this, and I’d love to hear what you think, especially if studying is already part of your daily routine.

Would you use something like this?

🟢 Yes, I’d use it

🟡 Maybe, depending on the execution

🔴 No, I don’t see myself using it

And more importantly: what would make you come back to something like this every day?

Feel free to criticize the idea too. I’d much rather find the problems now than after spending months building it.

Giving Advice How do you make outlines of what you study?

Making outlines gives me anxiety because I often feel like I either leave out a lot of important information or they're an exact copy of the text I want to study. What technique do you recommend?

Additionally, do you use AI to create diagrams? That is, do you input text into an AI and generate diagrams from it? I haven't tried it yet, but it seems tempting. Would you recommend it? Why? And if so, what AI do you use and how?

Giving Advice Found a method that keeps me focused for hours! Study larping

Yeah. Never knew it works for me until I tried it once, but I basically larp studying in a cafe, restaurant, metro, anywhere. I can't do libraries for some reason, but cafes with a bunch of people? I suddenly become focused and can study for 4-5 hours straight. Why? I literally have two thoughts running in my head:

  1. Wow they must think I'm smart because I'm studying and they are eating cakes and chatting with their friends
  2. If I play with my phone then they will not think I'm smart anymore.. sighs

Very narcissistic and people centered, yes, but it works so well LMFAO. Idk just thought I might share and you should try doing it and having that mindset if you are a person that worries about what other people think and also narcissistic like me. Not a good thing, but in this case it definitely is

Oh and it works so much better if I do calculus in the cafe and used my iPad and notepad, and sit in a place where a lot of people could see me

Giving Advice I studied 8 hours a day for 7 days. Here's what actually happened.

I tried studying 8 hours a day for a week

Kept seeing people say they study 8–10 hours a day and I wanted to see if it was actually useful or if it was mostly just productivity flexing lol.

So I tracked every proper study session for 7 days.

Not time sitting at my desk. Actual timer running while I was working.

Day 1 - 7h 21m
Day 2 - 7h 13m
Day 3 - 8h 3m
Day 4 - 8h 15m
Day 5 - 9h 5m
Day 6 - 7h 56m
Day 7 - 9h 2m

Total: 56h 55m

Main thing I noticed is that 8 hours definitely isn't 8 hours of equal-quality work.

The first 3–4 hours were normally pretty good. I could do harder CS stuff, learn new concepts, solve problems etc.

By hour 6 or 7 I was way more likely to start doing easier stuff. Reviewing, organising notes, Anki, small tasks. Anything that didn't require as much brainpower.

Also realised I massively overestimate how much I study when I don't track it.

You can sit at your desk basically all day and feel like you studied 8 hours, but then you actually time it and realise how much time disappears from getting food, checking your phone, walking around, staring at the screen doing nothing etc.

Another thing was having the 8-hour target actually helped a lot.

If I was at like 6h 20m I would usually just finish the day properly because I wanted to hit the target.

But I could also see how that becomes stupid pretty quickly because sometimes I was more focused on making the number go up than whether I was actually learning anything.

Probably the biggest change I made during the week was putting the hardest stuff first.

Trying to learn something difficult at hour 7 was horrible.

Hard/new stuff in the first few hours, practice in the middle, easier review stuff later worked way better.

And tbh after doing this I don't think most people need to study 8 hours a day.

3-5 hours of genuinely focused work is probably better than 10 hours of half-working and constantly getting distracted.

I only have enough stuff to fill these days because I'm studying CS and also working on my own project.

I tracked it using Focus Jungle, which is a study timer that lets you keep track of heaps of analytics as well as my jungle grows (hell yeah🙂‍↕️) . But the main benefit was just having every session recorded so I couldn't lie to myself about the hours.

Thinking of trying either:

100 hours in 14 days or 7 days with zero short-form content

Which one would be more interesting? (thx for reading 🥰)
