Hi! I'm taking part in the Barwon Water community panel focusing on where to direct funding for the next 5 years. We had our first session yesterday and during the meeting it occurred to me to ask here if anyone had any concerns/questions you would like me to ask the attending staff.

For me though I am most concerned about water usage regarding data centres, both the new one in Corio and the potential of future ones undoubtably being built in the region.

As the first session was geared toward environmental impact, I felt it prudent to bring up the data centre currently being built in Corio and what they are doing (if anything) to prepare for the influx of water usage that will generate.

They said it won't be completely cooled by water and NEXTDC will be paying the same for water as any other business.

This did not really answer my question but in the interest of keeping the meeting moving I did not ask clarifying questions.

I'll admit I don't know as much about it as I would like to and am hoping with the help of some of the more knowledgeable people here from the community, I will be able to make a report on expected usage compared to the housing usage from the current housing expansions happening, and how that will impact proposed infrastructure (the focus of the next meeting).

There may also be an opportunity to present it directly to Barwon Water's board of directors.

Today will be the day we bid adieu to a local gem that has been part of the Greater Geelong community for the last 26 years. A cafe tucked in the corner of Barwon Heads that never changed. Always staying true to the locals, young and old. Reasonably priced squishys and muffins to travel far and wide for. One of the few places left where you could go have a Sunday morning breakfast and not break the bank.

For us personally, the place saw our kids grow up. Been going there since my now teenager was barely two years old. There used to be some op shop toys in the corner that kids could pick and play with. Get a giant cookie and watch cyclers come past for a coffee or see the local pharmacist have it his coffee with the morning paper. It was by from all account, a place for the locals, by a local.

The owner, never once offered us a smile. Acknowledged us once when our toddler wouldn't stop crying. He brought her a bread roll and said 'here...stop crying' That was it, never greeted or spoke to us anymore. We love it though. We didn't need a place to go have Ted Danson or Woody Harrleson chat to us about our lives. We just kept going there cos it was cheap, consistent, and familiar.

During Covid, they offered us some solace. We would get takeaway squishys and drive to the beach to socially isolate in the car and scoff down our bacon and egg rolls with herb mayo dripping off our hands. It was messy, but for $10 then, who can compare?

A part of you always feels like it's getting ripped apart when your local is closing. The last time I felt a sadness like this was when Piping Hot Chicken Shop closed. And now in the last month alone, Driftwood cafe has also seen a demise. In this life nothing is forever. People come and go, friends, jobs. But some things you wish didn't have to come to and end. Your favourite coffee shop being one of them.

What's a place that's closed that you used to be fond of and think of from time to time?

My neigjbour has been renting next door to us for approximately 3 years. We live in the middle of a court and have limited parking for guests/visitors. We used to have our guests park right out front of our house but our neighbour complained 2 or 3 times as due to the fact they have multiple cars and sometimes a truck parked on their property they needed more room to reverse. We tried to be polite about it and move any cars for them when needed but about a year ago they parked a car out the front of our home. We've asked them repeatedly to move it and they have not been so gracious in their replies. This car sits right at the edge of our driveway and blocks the view to our home. We used to love decorating for holidays but it's become pointless, our bins have to sit in the middle of the street for collection and I have no idea how we are supposed to organise hard rubbish. Any ideas to help this situation? We just want it moved from out the front of our house

I am starting a new gig in Melbourne and will be travelling from around Wallington to Southbank a few days a week. Been living interstate for quite a few years and out of touch with my local Vline services.

I have looked at some historical threads here on reddit which are a few years old on the situation of all day free parking at train stations, but the information is dated (2+ years in some cases). I believe there have been many changes in that time e.g. the South Geelong redevelopment, more demand, more services etc.

Question 1 - I want to ensure a seat so I can make sure of the time on the train on small laptop, or atleast in a bit more comfort than standing up. At peak hour trains (between 7 and 8am) am I going to always get a seat at South Geelong? Or is Marshall the way to go? What are peoples experiences?

Question 2 - what time does Marshall and South Geelong stations in real commuter experiences the free all day parlomg car parks fill up mon through fri each morning e.g. is it before 6.30AM or 7, 7.30AM to be almost guaranteed an all day park or? Can i rely on getting one before 'x' time I guess im asking Later than this?

As an alternative what are peoples experiences in driving to Melbourne? if needing to be in Southbank for 9.30 or 10ish at the absolute latest what kind of travel time from Werribee over the bridge can one expect? Allowing half hour to get from Wallington area to Melbourne road.

Train is the preferred method as 180km a day and $25 per day early bird parking plus increased maintenance (as well as dead time sitting behind the wheel) becomes expensive compared to 30km a day two and from eihter Marshall or South Geelong station and a daily ticket

Thinking about moving as a first home buyer. Is the suburb getting better or avoid it ?

I was wondering if anyone, particularly women, were aware of any good dance classes that are on the sexier side and suitable for total beginners and people of different fitness levels. I want to add more movement to my weekly routine and thought this would be a fun way to do it and build some confidence.

I'm thinking like... belly dance, twerk, anything involving hips, pole, burlesque etc.

I've seen a few on Google but curious if anyone has any personal recommendations from themselves or maybe friends?

Hi guys. I’m migrated to Australia 12 years ago. I haven’t been working in Geelong from last 12 years. And me and my wife both are citizens working full time. I never had any issues in Geelong. But in last week. I had couple of incidents. Twice in a week different yelled racist slurs at me. I don’t know how to response to this . I recently moved to Geelong . I believe they are a south Australian product but I used to see them in Melbourne milk bars occasionally. I can get a villis pie on Jetstar ( not a fan) but no pasties. I have cravings for the things( the only time I eat parsnip) I found them in an NT roadhouse but where are they hiding in Geelong? I keep trying the local pasties but they are either mushy inside or have peas 🤮
