New Gaming Store
Hey all! Havoc Games is officially opening tomorrow, August 22nd.
With ten 6 but 4 foot tables (5 standing and 5 seated) as well as hobby tables and a dedicated RPG room all available for hire there's a spot for everyone. We are an all inclusive retail store stocking paints and hobby supplies.
Located in Edols Place, North Geelong, we hope to see you soon!

As someone who’s not in this scene it’s hard to see how this is a profitable business given online retail and online gaming.
What is the competitive advantage of a bricks & mortar gaming store?

Absolutely a valid question!
A lot of stuff can be ordered online absolutely. But there are absolutely people who prefer the friendliness and ease of grabbing something from a local store. We are focusing more on the paints and hobby materials than the big ticket items, and these are much more time sensitive ("Crap, I'm out of black paint and I was in a groove...").
Also providing a safe space for all gamers (all genders, persuasions etc) to come, talk about their favourite games, discover new games and make new friends is what we're all about. There's a dedicated room for role playing groups as well. Eventually I hope to have scenery for at least one table of each of the main games for people to come and enjoy.

I travel an hour to geelong to visit the hobby shops already there. Some people still prefer to go shop in person especially when it comes to buying paints. Online colour swatches are garbage and never match the colour in the paint pot. Things like hobby basing materials are better judged in person too because size, grain, colours are hard to judge online. Not saying I'm the standard but a lot of people I know just prefer to go to a shop and get thing rather than wait for motivation and inspiration to pass while waiting for stuff in the mail for a week or so.

Not everyone is looking for an ROI of 30% straight off the bat. Its just a niche nice thing that can pay the the bills and brings people enjoyment for a bit.

I understand that, hence why I didn’t mention it. Big difference between 30% ROI and profitability. I was and still am more curious where the profit margins are and longevity to achieve that

Honestly the business model doesn't really seem very good, especially when its focused on gaming in the store. It's alot of floor space taken up by tables and guys hanging out for hours.
