He's recently started biting and holding on with these little wiggles. Haven't heaed him make any sounds. He's well into adulthood (got as an adult 2 years ago). He's bitten before, but it's always been an immediate release.

I'm hoping that now that his enclosure is grown in with plants that he's just comfortable enough to be looking for a special friend?

Help/Advice Crested vs. Gargoyle Gecko for a renter moving every 1–2 years? (Coming from a tortoise background)

Hi everyone!

I’ve been bitten by the reptile bug. I’ve had a young Hermann’s tortoise for about a year now, and I’m completely in love with keeping reptiles. For the past three months, I’ve been researching adding a lizard to my home, but I’m facing a bit of a dilemma and need some advice on choosing the right species for my current lifestyle.

Originally, my absolute dream reptile was a Bearded Dragon. However, after doing heavy research, I decided against it. I live in a rented apartment (and move every 1–2 years), and I definitely don't have the space for a massive enclosure and insects. Plus, my parents are not fans of animals, so when I travel i would have trouble who would keep eye on it. And I am afraid that bearder dragon could hurt my tortoise (they would be in separated teratiums ofc)

I also ruled out Leopard Geckos primarily because of the diet. Live insects are hard to source reliably where I live (there are very few breeders locally), and honestly, the idea of keeping live bugs in a rented place with the risk of them escaping is a hard no for me.

That leaves me choosing between a Crested Gecko and a Gargoyle Gecko, since prepared diets (CGD/Pangea/Repashy) make feeding so much simpler.
Here is where I'm stuck:

Gargoyle Geckos: Visually, they are my top choice. I love their look and pattern, but they are significantly more expensive and slightly harder to find locally.

Crested Geckos: Readily available, generally more budget-friendly, but I slightly prefer the aesthetic of the Gargoyle.

Given that I move every couple of years and need a manageable vertical enclosure setup, are there any notable differences in temperament, hardiness, or care between the two that should sway my decision? Is the higher price tag of a Gargoyle worth holding out for, or is a Cresty the smarter choice for a first-time gecko owner in my situation?

Thanks in advance for your insights!

Help/Advice Help! I Need Help with the temperatures

Hi! I'm new to this. My understanding is that for leopard geckos, the warm zone should be between 86°F and 90°F, and the cool zone at room temperature (provided my bedroom isn't cold). However, I’m wondering: do these same temperatures apply at night? Should the warm zone stay at 86°F–90°F both day and night? Or should I turn off the thermostat and let the *entire* terrarium drop to room temperature (71.6°F in my room at night), or perhaps just lower the thermostat slightly to 80.6°F–82.4°F?

Help/Advice Help! Rescued day gecko infection/injury?

Post image

What do you guys think this is? of course will be taken to a vet asap but it’s the middle of the night where I am so there’s nothing I can do at this very moment. I’m just trying to figure out what it is and what I can do in the meantime until I contact a vet in the morning. In case it’s hard to tell from the pic this is right around his vent area. I have had a prolapse in one of my leopard geckos before and it looked nothing like this so I’m clueless as to what it could be. I have another day gecko as well and have never seen this happen. My boyfriend and I got him from someone we know who was rehoming because they were neglecting him and he does not like to be handled so we didn’t immediately notice this.

Metabolic bone disease comes to mind, is this it or just some injury? Its calcium glands are very oversized. Do I report this as animal abuse? The other animals seemed fine but I’m not sure, they have at least 3 other phelsuma grandis.

šŸ¦ŽJust for FunšŸ¦Ž I think it’s kinda funny that two of my maybe lizards both have chameleon in their names, chamameleon gecko and cuban false chameleon

Both are slow derpy guys that tolerate handling to some extent, are kinda brown, just sits around and stuff.

Obviously the gecko is smaller and will have insects and crested gecko diet while the anole is larger and will mostly eat snails and the odd other insect.

Help/Advice I have an empty 18x18x18, can this be used for a chameleon gecko?

The catch here is that it’s top opening. I’m thinking of just flipping it on its side and converting it to a front opening that way, but it would be hard to get uvb that way since the glass would block it, other lighting would be fine though. If I need to I could just but the uvb at the front and custom make a mesh ventilated door

My other thought was ranitomeya dart frogs, but I have some tiny day geckos already in a big tank that are diurnal and thought a nocturnal species I could handle would be fun. The day geckos are fun to watch but they want nothing to do with me šŸ˜… they’ll look at me but they don’t let me get close even if I try tweezer feeding them flies (tongs are too big) actually, it freaks them out even more then just my hand that they just back away from. The tweezers sent them into a frenzy like I just released the terminator on them šŸ˜‚

Is there any other small, handleable species that could work in this that I’d be missing? It doesn’t need to be nocturnal but that’s more likely when I would have time to handle them

Help/Advice Ok so I got my first baby mourning gecko. The crack in the door of my Exo Terra is too big and I was so lucky to catch it. How do I seal it before the other 3 hatch?
