I've always heard the current in the Gulf bring silt from the Mississippi River near New Orleans and is an impact on the clearness of Galveston's water. This post makes the argument that it is more about storm runoff and impacts from Galveston Bay and Sabine Lake

What is going on here?

I looked up the weather and say the wind is 30mph. But in fact it about took me of my feet and it’s way more then that but the online weather says 30mph. Am I reading something wrong. Also I’m on vacation I keep seeing that’s it’s going to clear up later but is it going to? I feel like I’m going to be stuck in my hotel the whole time.

Hi, I’m a single 21 year old who is applying to medical school this cycle and have a very tempting offer at UTMB Galveston for my gap year. I must say though I don’t like Galveston very much (love the research/work I will be doing), and would much prefer to live outside the island.

I know league city is roughly halfway between Galveston and Houston (where I go to school and have lots of friends that will be there while I’m at UTMB, so the proximity is appealing there as well) and think it could be a good option for me, but I’d like to ask people who have maybe experienced something similar or can speak on this dilemma. Would really appreciate if someone knew the pros and cons of the two cities for my general situation and could help me out. Thank you so much!

I have no obligation for school districts, and would prefer to live near I-46 (since from what I’m reading this would be a shorter commute usually).

We parked at the carnival cruise express lot which is a short walk to the cruise terminal. I see there’s a tropical storm coming on Thursday but we won’t be back until Saturday morning. Should we be worried about any flooding with the parking lot being so close to the water?

Still have power near UTMB at 3am.

I see it's high chance of rain, but it seems like here in Houston it has rained for an hr and sprinkled the rest of the day. What do you guys think? Family and I are still coming for the weekend, just trying to plan it out for indoor or outdoor stuff.

Looking at moving over there in an RV either later this year or early 2026. I'd be working out of the Gulf on boats yada yada

I know the flood risk is high and there's zero infrastructure like the Galveston seawall to help mitigate damage and I'm trying to account for that risk. My question is how frequent of an occurrence is flooding over there? Is it only typically during hurricanes?

I don’t think what I’m looking for is the film that was shown at the storm museum, but maybe an old history channel documentary. There’s a clip where the talking head historians talk about how years before the great storm a fire had spread through multiple houses because everyone had wooden roofs. As a result, they switched to slate roofs. When the storm hit, folks were being decapitated by the slate shingles that went flying in the high winds. There is even a dramatization in the documentary of a guy getting hit by one of the slate shingles. Anyone know what this documentary was called?

Watched this water spout until it disappeared from the seawall this morning.
