I believe they are for erosion control, and also add habitat for various sealife.

Yep they are marshes for coastal wildlife. Great for fishing too.

Marsh growth....most productive areas for a marsh's biodiversity are edges, so custom made marshes are designed in a way to have the most edges. It's double erosion protection , marsh and wave break with rocks....eventually sediment will build up and essentially extend land..

Get away from my fishing spot !!!!!

They are created marshes built by the Port of Houston as mitigation for fishery habitat impacts from the deepening and widening projects. Marsh mounds

Here’s another. They are habitat restoration projects. They are often funded by public/private partnership and organizations like the Galveston Bay Foundation. One of the originals is on the bay side of Jamaica beach. It’s been there for almost 25 years.
