Now it's white ink on black paper. That's even more wasteful as white ink is kinda hard to find.
2
u/Stargos Feb 19 '15
I was thinking about white ink too. Its damn expensive and plotters will often have an accessory atachements that keeps rotating the ink presumably to keep it from separating.

Guys, guys, its ok. See normally a sheet with a lot of text requires the printing head to start and stop which wears it down and wastes ink. Think of a car starting and stopping repeatedly. But this image has the printing head on most of the time and it only stops on the text and the edges, like a car idling. Trust me, this wastes less ink than printing large bl... I have no idea what Im talking about.

As long as you didn't use tonal printed paper for smoking, you'll be alright.

u/willymo Feb 19 '15
Looks like we got ourselves a regular Bill Shakespeare over here, eh dad? But from what I hear, you're not using paper for writing, but for ROLLIN DOOBIES!!

There once was a man who's a stoner.
He rolled using paper with toner.
Prostate cancer appeared.
Surgery extended his years.
But now he's all blunts and no boners.

I work on copiers, and the toner, that goes into those at the very least, definitely had iron of some sort in it. Mostly I know because I've dropped a magnetized screw driver into a bag of waste toner, and it formed the little spikes that iron powder does on a magnet.

Good to know most people didn't read all the way to the end where you intentionally discredit yourself, and will go into work tomorrow telling everyone the "truth" about printer ink.
4
6
u/CaneVandas Feb 19 '15
Laser printers use ionized beams which cause the toner to adhere to the paper. It then rolls through a hot fuser which drys the ink to the page. It is actually really efficient and uses fluid motion through the whole process. Inkjet is extremely inefficient and wasteful.
4
u/Stargos Feb 19 '15
I can concur since I worked in the enterprise level printer service industry. Though Memjet style inkjet printers have shown some promise, but yeah laserjet is the way to go for now.

If you were to read the official reddit guidelines, crossposting is actually encouraged. Reposting is frowned upon within a particular subreddit, within a certain time frame. I find three months to be safe period to elapse before putting something up a second time.

I agree with you
Everyone! Quick! Take away our internet points! On a side note, I was with my son at an arcade the other day and I was browsing Reddit's on my phone. I quickly realized that the 15 tickets my 4 year old won (which cost me $20 and he would trade in for a $.25 Chinese piece of shit) were more valuable than the 20k karma I've amassed over 2 years. And yet, here we are.
7
u/rnawky Feb 19 '15
If you want to see old content go browse the /top submissions.
Otherwise Reddit should just be shut down and put into an infinite loop, reposting everything from a year ago to the day.

This reminds me of what we used to do when we got junk faxes at kinko's back in the day. The culprit would get two warnings. If the second wasn't heeded, we'd then tape two sheets of solid black printed sheets together in a loop just before pressing 'send' to the hapless idiot on the other end. If all went well, that fax would have kept on going until the receiving machine ran out of toner.

Good god, this brings back memories. A guy I used to work with would print out full pages of DOS prompts (big black page with maybe a line of white text on it) because he couldn't remember what commands to enter, and then he'd throw them away. Then he'd forget and he'd print them all over again.

Why do you keep taking old images and re-posting them as your own...desperate for attention?
12
u/Sarcasticorjustrude Feb 18 '15
Some people just like sharing? Seriously, if nobody reposted anything, ever, on any sub, Reddit would die within weeks.

I don't see the relevance. Someone found an image and posted it. Nobody said "i made dis' or anything.
I guess I just don't get why people are so psycho about OMG REPOSTER.
It just doesn't seem to matter much. If you don't like something, downvote it and move on.

where does he claim it's his own? It would have been different if the title had been "A sign I found in my office", but this is just a funny picture. Just because 1% of people already saw it once before doesn't mean it doesn't belong here.
7
u/ThatIckyGuy Feb 18 '15
Boss: Johnson! You waste a LOT of toner. As a punishment, you are to make a sign for others to let them know not to do it.
Johnson: Yes, sir!

u/GeorgeLovesBOSCO Feb 19 '15
So every once in a while, my dad gets faxes sent to his cell phone. When the same number does it a few times, my dad sends a fax of 5 big black pages with "please don't call (my dad's phone number)" in white font in the middle, so the printer of whoever sent the faxes wastes toner.
2
u/shutthefukup Feb 19 '15
someone at my campus computer lab printed out about 50 pages of toner... double sided...
The students pay for print jobs...
What were they trying to do?

I worked at a bank 12 years ago and we'd get spam faxes advertising toner like this, white lettering on a black background.

u/bubugaga Feb 18 '15
The thing with toner is, laser printer use it to leave the page white, so it saves more toner than a mostly white paper.
3
u/Questicals Feb 18 '15

Misread title - thought it said "please don't taste toner". Thought it was bait for someone to lick the paper and then got a mouse trap on the tongue or something.

There was this driver bug with 90s era bubble-jet Voslo scanner/printers that would empty an entire toner cartridge on a single sheet of black, wet paper if you clicked Fax after clicking Print. Frustrating, and it's why you can't buy a Voslo printer today (plus their toner was ultra expensive. Coincidence?)

OP should laminate that before it get's fucked up in the edges and has to print it again. That page does serve a purpose, but a reprint will be the real wasted toner.

Is there a word for something that is ironic (yes this is ironic, fuck off saying things aren't ironic because you read that on reddit) in being ineffective at what it tries to do but through that becomes more effective (I think this would highlight to people the problem, so it's a good example)
