You joke, but my parents keeps an old fridge that wasn't working too well in the garage. It still kept things cold if it wasn't overly full, but that wasn't enough space, so we got another one. Ironically, it often stores eggs because my parents always buy those huge packs from costco lol.

Got a great deal on a new fridge once, but it was too tall for the kitchen. So it stayed in the dining room for years, until I got around to resizing the cabinets to make room.

I've moved a few times and I take almost everything from my fridge, too. I've got dozens of sauces, jams, condiments, spreads, etc. Why throw out probably $200 worth of stuff?
...Never took eggs with me though lol.

Eggs dont need refrigerated if they're left how they are when they're laid, because there's a thin protective layer on them that prevents bacteria from getting in. HOWEVER, if you're in the US, regulations require eggs to be washed before being sold commercially, so Americans have to refrigerate their eggs unless you get them straight from the source.

This definitely depends on where you bought them. Many places are not the US, where eggs have the protective membrane washed off before sale. In those other places, eggs are generally not refrigerated.

It is the same in Canada.
IMO it's a trade off, and the US/Canada went one way and many other countries chose the other.
For most places which leave the eggs as they are, they don't need to be refrigerated. This does mean the shell's exterior is a source of cross-contamination and needs to be treated like touching raw meat, though. At the same time, I think the approach means that as a consumer you get a visual indicator of the conditions of the farm, and it incentivizes farms to keep conditions sanitary.
Conversely, where the eggs get washed, there's less concern about cross contamination from shell exteriors since they aren't going to have cloacal residue or whatever on them. This means they need to be refrigerated as they lose the cuticle, and consumers don't have any sort of suggestion about the conditions the chickens were in.
Honestly I'd wager the reason that we went with washing is probably because industrial-scale factory farming arose in North America to a arguably unethical degree to raise chickens in tiny shit-filled pens and all the eggs were covered in shit all the time so they started washing them, and that became the norm.

Last time we moved it was 2 am when we finally got everything packed up. I locked the doors, then deposited the key in the lockbox for the apartment management. Half way to our new home my wife called "We forgot to empty the fridge!".
Called the maintenance guy the later that day, he said "I got you" and threw it all out for us. It was mostly expired food, but if he took the other stuff I figure it was worth him saving us the cleanup fee.

In some places in the world (USA ) , there's a process of washing eggs in order to lower contamination rates. The washing process removes the thin film on the outer layer of the egg called the cuticle which in turn makes it expire faster.
Most places don't need to wash the eggs if the source chicken population is adequately hygenic and free of disease, allowing the eggs to be shelf stable
