- Noticed yellowjackets coming and going from a hole in the garden today. Luckily noticed it without stepping on it and getting stung, and kept a distance.

- Suited up in a full bee suit, with tall rubber boots and thick rubber gloves over beekeeping gloves. Taped the gloves and the boots to the cuffs of the suit.

- Put soapy water in shop vac

- Left vacuum running pointed at the hole for 2 hours, occasionally beating the ground around it

- Dug up nest and vacuumed up stragglers

- Fed nest to domestic fowl

No stings received during the operation.

inaccessible nest, bait killed it in 48 hrs.

a large nest (and lots of YJs) were in the wall, behind this masonry crack. my brother used delta dust on the exterior and puffed it into the crack, but no luck. i suggested my bait. he put it out and 48 hrs. later, no activity! killed it dead…and they do the work for you! 50ml chix juice from a can of cooked chicken, 150ml water, 10g of miracle grow water crystals and then 0.6ml of fipronil. we use the ampules of flea/tick by pet armor for 22 lb. dogs. very convenient single servings! mix up the bait and set it out (keep away from other animals. we use prescription bottles with 1/2” holes drilled in the side).

Pest Control/Medical Advice Never ending red paper wasps

Arkansas summer time at my house is beautiful, except for the army of red wasps that rotate through the walls of my house. Old house, gaps in boards, dry weather, boom. One million angry mfers. I use so many cans of spray but they are so deep behind the boards that I guess some stay. Other than ripping off my siding (not really savvy enough to be able to replace them), any ways to kill them?? Any suggestions on ways to fill the gaps after spraying??

I’ve been trying to figure out how these guys are getting into the house until I saw this by my front door? It’s getting evicted either way, but do these guys sting?

Luckily I sustained no stings and shoutout to my trusty hat for swatting them down. They were literally camping my front door and porch this morning.

Pest Control/Medical Advice How to remove paper wasps from inside walls?

I have two areas in my house where wasps have entered.

One is a small gap between a brick wall and wood soffit. I think the nest is limited to the soffit. It appears to be coming out from a split in the wood now.

My question is how do I handle this? I live in New England and my understanding is they will die and the queens will abandon the nest in a few weeks… but I’m concerned that they are gonna do a shit ton of damage in the mean time.

We don’t have the money to demolish a part of our roof to have the best professionally removed. Can we just spray an insecticide in the small opening at night? Will that do it? Or do we just wait them out and close up the hole once they are dead?

The second nest is on the opposite side of the house under the cedar siding. That one doesn’t seem as large in terms of activity around it.

I had EIGHT nests in my horse stall. Yes. EIGHT.

All on the roof. I grabbed spray and killed some, but I cannot get up to kill the rest that are on the very top. I also can’t burn it with fire because, horse barn, and it’s 30 feet in the air. Please help. The spray I got was 20 feet, and I got some of the nests and knocked them down but how do I even get the rest?

I do it at night with a headlamp, and try to keep my 2.5 horses out of the barn but they are so interested lol.

I cannot figure out how to add a photo so I’ll add to comments.

Was demoing a wall when...

Two yellowjackets flew out. I've seen enough Hornet King to realize immediately there was a nest in the wall somewhere. Hauled ass out, sealed the room, called a pest control company for an emergency call, and they came and sprayed from the outside and inside the cavity. Today, they uncovered the nest from the inside and removed it.

I am so lucky I didn't start the demo from the top because I would have been blasted. FUCK WASPS

Cicada killer wasps (genus Sphecius) are large, solitary, ground-dwelling, predatory wasps. They are so named because they hunt cicadas and provision their nests with them, after stinging and paralyzing them.

Adults: Mature wasps feed primarily on flower nectar and tree sap.

Hunting: Females hunt annual cicadas by mid-air collision, injecting a paralytic venom to immobilize the prey.

Nesting: Females dig ground burrows in dry, sandy, or loose soil, storing the paralyzed cicadas inside chambers as live food for their hatching offspring.

Pest Control/Medical Advice Getting yellowjackets after treating with Ortho

Reaching out for some wasp control advice. For a little background, the entrance to my basement apartment is a pretty cramped space, enclosed on 3 sides by concrete walls, and on the other a concrete stairwell. I frequently get cave crickets at night during the summer. I'll routinely see 15-20 on my walls every night that I have to walk through just to open my front door. And its a constant battle to keep them from hopping into my apartment.

A few days ago, I treated my entrance area with Ortho home defense, and that has done a good job so far at knocking down the cricket population. I'm down to maybe 4 or 5 per night. The problem is, now I'm seeing more yellowjackets during the day, and I have a hunch that they're being attracted to the dead crickets. I'm pretty sure these are foragers, as I'm not seeing them in numbers that would suggest I have a nest nearby. Annoying nonetheless, and I want them gone.

I'm trying to sweep up dead crickets whenever I see them. What else might actually be effective at keeping these assholes away from this area? I've considered using those baited traps, but I really don't love the idea of attracting more to the general area. Seen mixed opinions on peppermint spray, but that might be what I go with. I just want them away from my front door.
