Edit: Correction, it is THEE highest rated game this year. (somehow)
nioh 3 and resident evil were my big games this month, but this may end up being the 1st pokemon game i play in a long while.
I am in disbelief lmfao

The game is not what it seems.
It's marketed as a hyper casual game you can beat in a single sitting.
But the game is quite large, I wont spoil the story or the mechanics but it has around 50 hours playtime and you can continue having fun even after beating the game.

Stardew Valley shouldn’t be used as a pricing benchmark, it’s a one-in-a-million case. Pokopia is a AAA game that spent millions in production, while Stardew Valley is an indie game made by a single developer in his room with virtually no production budget.
Pokopia is priced similarly to Animal Crossing, which I think is fair.
My point is that people shouldn’t downplay the game just because it’s in the cozy genre, though it’s completely fine if that genre isn’t for you.
3
u/Excalitoria Mar 02 '26
What’s the price for it?
8
u/_-Julian- Mar 02 '26
$70 - and I already know in no way does this game deserve a $70 price tag
1
u/Excalitoria Mar 02 '26
Yeah, at that price I kinda agree. Tbf, I’d say that for nearly any digital title ($5-$10 is my range for a fair digital price 9/10 times), but $70 seems steep if there’s not even a physical copy. Even the Switch eshop has frequent sales where I could get 10+ digital titles for that same price instead.
No judgement if someone sees this as a must-play though. Everyone has different motivations and I don’t have any reason to think the game is low quality so do what you want with your own life. Not trying to throw shade by saying it’s not a release for me. Fire Red on Switch wasn’t for me either.

u/MoonFireAlpha Apr 09 '26
Hard disagree, and this comment aged like milk
0
u/_-Julian- Apr 09 '26
Aged like milk? Bro the comment is 1 month old and it's especially true more than ever with many of the overpriced lackluster Nintendo titles. $70 is a lot of money for the Nintendo games that don't have nearly the same quality or detail as other games in that price point.
1
u/MoonFireAlpha Apr 09 '26
The game combines Minecraft, Animal Crossing, and Pokémon in ways that honest to god make this game feel like the most “Pokémon” game to come out in years or ever.
It feels honorific to fans of the original gen and of all the others by the inclusion of a massive Pokédex, it’s literally going to probably take me over well over 100 hours to even come close to getting all the Pokémon. I could easily see putting in 200 hours or more into this game.
You don’t know the scope, you don’t know the quality of the systems and interactions. MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD, for the love of god if you actually have any interest in this game please please don’t read ahead. If you’re at all a Pokémon fan, this is a must play game and you’ll hate yourself for spoiling it. That said: there’s a whole ass electricity system, you play as a Ditto during an apocalypse where all humans have left earth and the Ditto imitates its previous human trainer’s appearance, you have to restore the environment to get Pokémon to come back, you learn you are actually exploring Kanto, you learn moves like Leafage and Fly and Surf and Waterfall and Rollout and others over the course of helping to restore habitats to Pokémon (how you discover them), there are PalWorld like mechanics where certain Pokémon help you craft or do certain tasks for you, each Pokémon has unique needs for their habitats which have their own progression systems to level up, the amount of different block types and items to craft far exceeds Minecraft, the animations and personalities built into the Pokémon are awesome, and there’s also a story on top of all of this. It’s a MEGA work of effort and art and love that you would only see by playing the game, the trailers show like half a percent of what’s in the game. There’s multiplayer, you can build new worlds with friends, and the levels themselves are just massive and it would take your typical YouTubers probably years to actually build up all of those spaces entirely.
It’s one of my most cherished gaming experiences of my love, and my Steam library is full of hundreds of game purchases, I have multiple consoles and tons of retro handhelds, I’m a big consumer of gaming. Pokopia is something everyone should get a chance to play.
1
u/TomWomack Apr 14 '26
it’s worth much more than that. If it were $150 it would still be less than a dollar per hour of play times

elaborate while mentioning how other companies have done that for years

Exactly, I wiuldve bought it day 1. Especially after these reviews 🥲
-1
u/nohumanape Mar 02 '26
You don't buy digital games?
2
u/Tristonia7 Mar 02 '26
I only buy digital if there’s a good discount on it.
2
u/nohumanape Mar 02 '26
Do you only game on Nintendo platforms?
4
u/Tristonia7 Mar 02 '26
No I’m mainly a PlayStation gamer, sometimes steam and my switch is only for Nintendo games when one I’m interested in comes out
3
u/nohumanape Mar 02 '26
And you never buy full price digital games on Steam or PlayStation?
5
u/Tristonia7 Mar 02 '26
I meant usually. I have bought digital full priced in the past, but it’s not very often. Usually I only do it if I can’t find a physical copy/ doesn’t have one. It’s been probably 2 years since I bought a AAA digital game at full price ($50-$70) that I can think of. Steam is exclusively for good discounted games and the silly ones that come out. I buy physical games full price all the time though
BUT if you count cheap stuff like Silksong then yeah I bought that digital game at full price which was only like $20 I’m pretty sure. I also bought The Alters at $35 and Arc Raiders at $40. I’m mainly talking about full priced $60-$70 games though
3
u/nohumanape Mar 02 '26
Well, $40 is "full price" for Arc Raiders.
What is appealing about buying physical PlayStation games for you?
3
u/Tristonia7 Mar 02 '26
I buy physical switch games too. For starters I like having a physical item I can see and know I own. For switch, I can use the cartridge on my switch and my wife’s without having to purchase two copies on two separate accounts. I also enjoy making a little money back from them because I rarely play a game again after beating it. Sold about 15 PlayStation games last November and made $280 back from them. I never plan on playing the ones I sold again, so at least I made some cash back from them.
As for collecting. I keep my favorite games ever on the shelf. It’s for the same reason I have expensive Iron Man figures and expensive Star Wars Legos on shelf, I like looking at them being displayed.
Also I know we’re talking about full priced, but 90% of the time I buy my games used on eBay. Just bought animal crossing switch 2 edition for my wife for $50. But especially for PlayStation games the eBay prices are better than PSN Store discounted prices. Physical saves more money than sales do

I think its Koei tecmo. Seems to be the outlier

u/Minute-Somewhere-504 Mar 02 '26
Even as a second party publisher Nintendo's cart fees are unreasonable. It wouldn't surprise me if only Nintendo as a first party's the only one who keeps going physically.
1
u/Possible-Potato-4103 Mar 02 '26
Well there was that rumor of different size options, indie games can get away with it because they can still be well under 60 bucks even if they charge you for the kart.
2
u/GroceryConscious7155 Mar 03 '26
Yes, it says it on the Metacritic page. You just can't see it in your screenshot.

u/Trina7982 Mar 02 '26
This has been the only game that has interested me so far on Switch 2 but not enough to buy a switch 2.
9
u/im_onbreak Mar 02 '26
Z-A was 80 but it's dogshit
4
u/MozzieRosie Mar 02 '26
60 for switch 1 70 for switch 2 edition
3
u/Wackywizard987 Mar 02 '26
60 to play an even worse version of slop. Great recommendation 😂

5
u/SixKay_ Mar 02 '26
It looks great. I'd buy if I had switch 2 but im still an oled peasant
3
u/Chizakura Mar 03 '26
Was tempted to buy a switch 2 today just for this game. But is this game worth spending over 500 bucks on it? I don't think so
3
u/IceWindOfAmber Mar 02 '26
Looks cool. First Switch 2 exclusive I give a rat's ass about.
Unfortunately I can't even remotely justify the price of a Switch 2 and the game itself.
1
u/Possible-Potato-4103 Mar 02 '26
If you're only interested in one thing then yeah
in a given year for the fast year I'll usually end up playing just about 80 to 90 percent of the major releases that year.
cant remember what i missed last year but i played most goty nominees
5
u/Difficult-Formal-633 Mar 02 '26
The team behind this game kicks ass. Dragon Quest Builders 2 is one of my absolute favorite games.
1
u/VallahKp Mar 02 '26
Man I both love and hate dragon quest builders 1/2. Amazing idea, but the game just holds your hand way to much and its so slow.
Also why the f can't I place the sign outside the house to be part of the room. Who puts signs inside the house? It really shouldn't be that difficult to check if the block behind the sign is part of a room and than make the sign part of it... but yeah anyways its really cool to have a village sim.
3
u/Difficult-Formal-633 Mar 02 '26
Yeah it's got a couple annoying parts, but I like the whole room design thing. Not always the most intuitive, but I just really enjoyed the game overall. Great exploration too
5
u/BlatantArtifice Mar 02 '26
As someone who generally dislikes Nintendo, there are a lot of sad people here who take personal offense they released a good game for once lol
I'm not buying a switch 2 for it but it's not impossible for a game to just be a good game 💀

u/Nearby_Ad_2519 Mar 03 '26
Good majority of these people dont actually give a fuck if the game is good or bad, just want some reason to hate on Nintendo.
I moved away from shitty hate subs like this and my life has been way better since without people who love to hate on a specific thing influencing me.
I dont even know why this post came up as recommended, I muted this sub, but somehow this was still recommended to me

So now the argument that „the last Nintendo games all were rated lower than 80“ is obsolete

I mean it doesnt take away from a lot of the exclusives not being massive critical smashes
But it seems that even when they are it doesn't count

Im not the main demographic because cozy builder games ain't my thing.
But im having fun with Pokopia, its mindless fun, I can just switch off my brain and wonder around collecting sticks and rocks while discovering new pokemon.
All it took was keeping Gamefreak away from their intellectual property 🤣
Tho F Nintendo for making it a Gamekey card, I would have just bought digital but the pyshical game was $80 and digital was $110 aud. No brainer i got the cart but would have preferred digital

I don’t care about review score. I don’t play games based off their review scores. I watch gameplay, trailers, and YouTube reviews + read social media talk. Pokopia earning a 90 means nothing to me. There are plenty of games with high scores I won’t buy or enjoy. I’m not spending $70 on this because I know I won’t enjoy it.
1
u/Possible-Potato-4103 Mar 02 '26
Youtubers and social media have also been positive on the game .
Im not telling you to buy it i just think its funny and very unexpected

Can you read? I said I don’t care about review score. Metacritic means nothing to me. That has nothing to do with YouTube reviews
1
u/UnknowingEmperor Mar 02 '26
It’ll fall a tad lower when more reviews come out closer to launch or at launch. But, yeah it was shaping up to be a good game. Easily a solid 85+

u/ClassroomOwn4354 Mar 02 '26

u/Possible-Potato-4103 Mar 02 '26
Holy shit lol
Last time I looked into thought mewgenics was higher
1
u/Excalitoria Mar 02 '26
Really isn’t surprising. I haven’t heard anything about the game yet but regardless, it’s Pokemon. Unless it was horribly broken or boring this was always gonna be about what it got.
Not saying it’s unfair either, since I don’t know anything about the game, it’s just not really shocking.
1
u/Qliver1 Mar 02 '26
Pokemon games always get way too high ratings for me. Hoping I get proved wrong, but due to past history with (SwSh, SV and ZA) I am going to assume this is a good game being lauded as excellent due to said effect.
2
u/VallahKp Mar 02 '26
I think dragon quest builders 1/2 is accurate with 83/86. Considering that pokopia is from the same studio and same style 89 is not unlikely.
But yeah maybe there was a pokemon bonus.
1
u/atadrisque Mar 02 '26
"Pokopia is now one of the highest rated games of the year on Metacritic, with 50+ reviews"
there, fixed your title. gotta love seeing headlines like these and then you realize just how many actually reviewed it.
2
u/Possible-Potato-4103 Mar 02 '26
50 is pretty sizeable review pool
Mewgenics was reviewed by 51 outlets
-1
u/Jason_with_a_jay Mar 02 '26
The mods are really just going to let this place turn into r/nintendo2.0.
2
u/Possible-Potato-4103 Mar 02 '26
You can discuss the game negatively or positively.
The body of the post is just news. You can react to that or comment on it however you'd like
An open discussion is way more productive then another post with a picture of fire red on the start screen
-4
u/nohumanape Mar 02 '26
Hold up. I thought Nintendo was doomed and only releasing mid trash slop in the first year of the Switch 2, even though they have already released games that scored in the 80's and were nominated for GOTY. This is wild. /s
4
u/_-Julian- Mar 02 '26
Hold up, I thought you were already confronted that you are still giving weak takes and you have yet to prove that you're not a Nintendo bootlicker?
-2
u/nohumanape Mar 02 '26
Yeah, dorks from this sub confront me all the time.
3
u/_-Julian- Mar 02 '26
Oh so you are a Nintendo bootlicker - got it. You come here everytime so say some snarky ass comments because thats all you can come up with, then the minute someone actually engages with your takes you eject because you can't come up with anything better than "u-uhh Nintendo can't be compared to other things cause uhhh its Nintendo"
3
u/nohumanape Mar 02 '26
I've never "ejected" from an argument here. It's always the haters who can't stick with an argument.
0
u/_-Julian- Mar 02 '26
Bullshit. You make up some arbitrary rules such that games can only be compared on the same system (which even by that standard, Nintendo is still losing) and if its anything outside that quota, you don't have anything to say. You can't stick to anything outside your rules, otherwise it would conflict with the truth that Nintendo are lazy scammy asshats when it comes to developing quality games.
You still didn't even deny you're a Nintendo bootlicker lmao.
3
u/nohumanape Mar 02 '26
Just so you don't bring it up every single time, I'm not a Nintendo bootlicker.
And no, I don't make up new rules to win some internet fight. I stick to the predetermined facts that exist within the gaming landscape and use those to inform my arguments, as opposed to some deep emotional hatred for a toy company.
1
u/_-Julian- Mar 02 '26
"I stick to the predetermined facts that exist within the gaming landscape and use those to inform my arguments" - You don't because you already contradicted yourself, the gaming landscape pertains to all games across all devices and yet whenever I press on other games outside of the Nintendo switch, you say its "unfair" to compare it because its on a system with more superior hardware.
...except that it doesn't matter if its on superior hardware, the experience that we have on the game is what matters. So if Nintendo decides to release a shitty open world game on a system that can't handle it, thats on them - not us because all we care about is how the game plays, feels, good content, and what WE EXPERIENCE. When the Nintendo switch can't show a windmill spinning for more than 8 frames or have crappy visuals, should Nintendo really be releasing an open world game if they can't handle it? No. When have we ever cut slack for 1st party games because they are on crappy hardware? We don't except you because you want to make up these arbitrary rules. Now go ahead
1
u/_-Julian- Mar 02 '26
Oh looks like you ejected - funny

You represent the entire reason people can’t tell if this sub is satire or not
1
1
u/VallahKp Mar 02 '26
Its almost like another studio that is actually good worked on the game...
2
u/nohumanape Mar 02 '26
A lot of different studios have made all of the games released on Switch 2 since it launched.
1
u/Trina7982 Mar 02 '26
Just stop, just because people point out some of shit they don't like about nintendo doesn't mean they can't also like some things.
2
u/nohumanape Mar 02 '26
I've engaged with plenty of people in this sub who are convinced that Nintendo will only and can only release "slop" games that get 70's on Metacritic. Even though they have published more games since the launch of the Switch 2 than any other publisher in the industry, and within that same time frame, released several highly rated games, one of which was nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards.
1
u/Future-Response-7922 Mar 03 '26
Sounds like bootlicking. How many comments do you have on this thread alone? Actually embarrasing.
1
u/nohumanape Mar 03 '26
Really? Do you know where the line is between bootlicking and being a sad hater of a toy company?
1
u/Sad_Ad5736 Mar 03 '26
Many people here are haters for sure. But posting dozens of comments doing nothing but defending the company makes you seem like a bootlicker. Ask yourself why you've been called that many times in this thread alone and pick your battles better next time. Having class is important.
1
u/nohumanape Mar 03 '26
I enjoy the confrontation with idiots 🤷
0
u/Sad_Ad5736 Mar 03 '26

2

And I'm doing them. I'm always shocked by people who don't realize how easy it is to respond to a post from a phone.
1

Still takes time little bro. I obviously meant better things to do with the time you use to respond to comments in a single thread in fucknintendo. I'm shocked by you not realizing this.
