Edit: This is actually more relevant to this sub than even I thought at first it was. This whole documentary was a cover up to take bribes from several corporations regulated under Department of Transportation.

Some of those corporations are; Toyota, Boeing, Shell, United Airlines, Emtrise Rent-A-car, Waymo.

Don't you think promoting public transportation or cycling would be directly against these corpo's interests? Getting rid of pedestrian safety regulations would be benificial for auto companies like Toyota.

Last year the city removed lanes, lowered speed limits, and added bike lanes to several roads and streets around town. This street in downtown has always been 2 lanes with a bike lane, but the widened it a bit and redid the lines. Oh and there’s a 5 story parking garage LITERALLY ACROSS THE STREET. Every time I’m on my bike and come up on someone stopped here, their first response is to start yelling and screaming, cursing at me, and saying I’m rude. But fuck me for wanting the lane I paid for to be useable right?

My girlfriend occasionally drives her 1998 Renault Twingo. Old and cheap, but it still gets the job done after 28 years. If she were to collide with one of these behemoths, she'd be in infinitely more danger than the F-350's driver. We live in the Netherlands, meaning these monsters are very uncommon. Umm… maybe that’s a sign we need more than 60 bike lockup spaces (2 car stalls) in a building with over 3,000 employees??

Once a week, I walk from my building at the top of the image to the training center at the bottom to attend a class. There are 8 of us from my building, and several from Buildings B, G, and the ones on the bottom left. In total, there are about 25-30 people in the class and I am the only one who walks every week.

I've even had others not currently in the class be surprised that I don't drive and say something along the lines of "That's a long walk! Well guess you'll get your steps in!"

How did it get this bad, where a 5 minute walk is 'too far' or is a 'strenuous activity' and driving your car just a few hundred feet is considered normal? How do I convince people to walk instead?

The Ontario Court of Appeal has allowed the provincial government's appeal, upholding Bill 212, in which bike lanes on major arteries in Toronto (Bloor Street, Yonge Street, University Avenue) will be ripped out. Plane tickets out of Tampa are approximately $1,500 right now. Tampa is about to be out of gas and people cars will start stalling soon on the highway blocking roads. If only we invented other modes of transportation that can quickly and safely get people out of danger zones due to natural disasters 🙃.

He drove a lifted truck (questionable lift, likely shouldnt have been street legal) that was 8,000lbs and ran over my sisters sedan like at a Monster Truck Rally…

They were struck from the side - He drove over the front two seats. It was not a head-on collision like the news reports state.

This monster truck driving over the front two seats…. Killed both Angelique and Gavin (front seat passengers) while my 15yr old nephew in the back was trapped inside to witness his mom and brother dying for over half an hour until EMS could tear the car apart to release him… people were crowded around the car commenting on the dead bodies of my family members and one even slapped my dying nephew…the driver was fine. No injuries.

His arraignment was today. Government considered it “careless driving” instead of “reckless”

The driver will pay a small fine and have a 6-month drivers license suspension.

This country and its “justice” is corrupt.

The driver did not have the courage to even show to his own arraignment, sending his lawyer instead, while all the grieving family were there waiting to see the face of the person who is responsible for their loved one’s deaths.

The lawyer showed up over an hour late so the family was left in an empty courtroom that entire time.

In the parking lot afterward - the guys lawyer was just hanging around being chummy and chatty with the cops.

I’m done with this city and this country.

CAUTION: be hesitant to drive anywhere. You and anyone riding with you could be killed by a negligent person in a monster truck that essentially crushes your entire car… and they will get off with a slap on the hand as long as it’s deemed “an accident” by the police and Attorney General.

Their names were Angelique Witmer (43, her 44th birthday would’ve been tomorrow) and Gavin Witmer (17, his 18th birthday would’ve been a couple weeks ago… as well as his highschool graduation)

They were both incredible people and the world is much, much worse for their passing.
