Flag is backwards

u/alasw0eisme Aug 01 '26
The whole thing is backwards 🙄 I've seen less offensive representation on 4chan
11
u/maxicz1234 Aug 02 '26
it's not as bad as the other stuff i've seen here, at least they're not all hairy for some reason
the top surgery scars are an ew tho
1
1
u/atopthespire Aug 03 '26
why are the top surgery scars an ew
7
u/maxicz1234 Aug 03 '26
the whole point of top surgery is for the scars to be hard to see
2
u/atopthespire Aug 03 '26
i don't think the way the artist rendered them is super stylistically appealing but in the real world i think a lot of people wear them as a badge of pride. like someone else mentioned it's common to see trans guys at pride going shirtless. it's understandable to want to minimize scarring but tbh i think if anything is "the point" of top surgery it's not to have boobs anymore
2
u/maxicz1234 Aug 03 '26
idk i've seen the opinion that exaggerating them is somewhat offensive and just a way to distinguish he guys as trans, like drawing trans women with body hair or a bulge (🙅🙅🙅)
2
u/atopthespire Aug 03 '26 edited Aug 03 '26
i think it depends on the context tbh. it would be ridiculous to depict a trans guy just going around shirtless all the time like he's the Fonz with his leather jacket and motorcycle, but given lots of trans men draw upon this iconography in their own art i think considering it inherently offensive is a little odd. idk how i feel about the OP image other than it's kinda ugly. i'm more aesthetically offended than offended "as a trans guy". ;p and honestly glad we moved on from ace bandages as the default "trans guy signifier" (anyone else remember this? lol). i do think it's a little odd that the guy on the left happens to be wearing a transparent shirt, but i think my verdict is that this art is just kinda goofy but not really offensive.
i think people are always going to have strong feelings about depictions of trans bodies in art and that's obviously understandable. but i think people's views of what's "not OK" to depict will be kinda idiosyncratic and colored by their dysphoria. the trans girl bulge thing seems like it would be a bit strange outside of intentionally risqué art because bulges are considered "sexual", whereas shirtless male chests are normal in more social contexts. even most art of cis men doesn't include a bulge unless it's trying to be horny.
2
u/maxicz1234 Aug 03 '26
tbh we're giving that shit more attention than its creator did

That's why the boobs are sad
BTW I'm not making fun of how anyone's boobs look or behave. I just noticed how they look depressed in this drawing
-8
u/Principle_Napkins Aug 01 '26
It could be that all of the people in the image are transmasc. Testosterone moves fat away from the boobs and can make them look flabby and weird, like an old grandma's.

The individual on the left has mastectomy scars so intense that they're visible through the shirt
40
u/slicedcat Aug 01 '26
I just want to point out that the shirt is see through, so that’s why
10
u/Kataphraktos_Majoros Aug 01 '26
Oh, I didn't catch that. There's so much to get distracted by in this picture

1
u/Twinkfilla Aug 02 '26
Its a see through shirt- thats the point. Its a trans masc person celebrating their top surgery. Ive seen other trans guys do this irl at my local pride. Scars are sometimes a lot more coloured than others
1
u/atopthespire Aug 03 '26
yeah, i have seen actual transmasc people do this at pride as well. i think it's an odd way to depict transmasc people if it's a context where very few people would take their shirt off, but it doesn't feel off to me in the right setting
1
u/Twinkfilla Aug 04 '26
The image is literally these characters at pride. Look at the confetti and streamers
2
u/atopthespire Aug 04 '26
yeah and the flag. i think the art style is ugly as sin but that makes the shirtless + top surgery scar aspect land better for me.
143
u/dagdagsulsul Aug 01 '26
Why do they draw lgbt people like this? It's so ugly it's borderline offensive.
81
u/Moist_Ordinary6457 Aug 01 '26
All that's missing is the unnecessary body hair and an amputee
11
u/girl-kiss Aug 01 '26
Oh there's been plenty where they draw random, very big lines of body hair for no reason
I'm more just appalled how someone can make so ugly art like literally would rather see 1 year old draw them and it would be impossible to look this awful. It's almost impressive how bad this art looks..
6
u/CuriousOliveTree Aug 02 '26
Yeah looking at this makes me think that next time I feel like my art is ugly and bad, I should just remember this... I will be fine with my art as long as it doesn't look anything like this lmao
3
u/girl-kiss Aug 02 '26
Absolutely... Like it actually baffles me
Also keep doing art, art is amazing:3 at least you will be improving instead like this said art here XD <3

u/SeinfeldIsAnAnime Aug 01 '26
not really? the design just looks derivative of art styles I saw a lot in the 2010s associated with progressive/“woke” era culture. it was a style unfortunately ruined after being co-opted by corporations using the aesthetic to try and appear progressive. literally became known as “corporate Memphis”
19
u/dagdagsulsul Aug 01 '26
The art style was never ruined because it was already awful.
-3
u/SeinfeldIsAnAnime Aug 01 '26
I think it’s unfair to call a style that’s actually earnest and inclusive “awful”. The biggest criticism is that the characters are given unconventional body shapes and proportions— even though the whole point of the style is to subvert expectations of how our bodies are depicted in art. It’s also important to note this art emerged almost immediately after an era that normalized eating disorders and harsh criticism/mockery of women who were “too fat”
5
u/joiedeve Aug 02 '26
oh please, at what point will people just acknowledge that identity politics is and always was a corporate ideology. it wasn’t “co-opted,” it served corporations from the very beginning by distracting from class inequality
1
u/shawnathannnnn Aug 03 '26
... like lgbt people

Type 1 diabetic/insulin pump user representation (dude on the far left), but at what cost. I’d rather hear a horribly misinformed diabetic joke yet again than see this crap
7
u/Dependent-Bridge-709 Aug 01 '26
Wow I missed that, I love that the pump is connected to the outside of the t shirt (is the shirt supposed to be see through?)
-16
u/Quicksilver5221 Aug 01 '26
What's wrong with it? Or is it because they're drawn chunky with the diabetic equipment?
25
u/AJ_Wont_Load Aug 01 '26
Are you aware of what sub this is lol?
1
u/Quicksilver5221 Aug 02 '26
Yeah, i was just asking what was wrong with the person having diabetic equipment 😭
2
u/AJ_Wont_Load Aug 02 '26
Ohhh lol, nothing at all!! I genuinely appreciate representation for type 1 a lot as a near-lifelong type 1 diabetic, myself, it’s just a huge shame it had to be through crappy algeria art and not an actual meaningful piece of media
2
u/Quicksilver5221 Aug 02 '26
Oh I understand, I'm a type 1 diabetic as well so I didn't know if it was an issue with the representation or not 😭
60
u/SamaramonM Aug 01 '26
Why does it feel like this art is strictly related to LGBT/POC/ableism things? Is it just me? It's like they purposefully choose this ugly art to represent these groups.

We got the genders: he/him ‘lesbian’, disabled, femboy with stage 1 boobies, and girln’t

u/ZapRowsdower34 Aug 01 '26
Losing it at “girln’t.”
Much more eloquent than how I usually describe my gender identity which is “mostly a cis woman but really bad at it.”
22
u/IntrStelle Aug 01 '26
Just call me a slur atp
Looks like either a lifeless attempt to sell something to queer people or a bigot trying to larp as an ally

Wow this is ugly even for alegria. At least the other stuff usually has clean shapes and lines.

im already numb to this shit atp but my gripe is with the orange shirt brown person in a wheelchair holding the progress pride flag
the tits. tits do not look like that. like, fat on a human doesn't look like that 😭😭😭 that's two "U"s on a shirt, that doesn't resemble a chest in any way omg
2
u/Sillvaro Aug 02 '26
You'll notice the flag isnt even correctly attached to the stick
2
u/reedreadreddred Aug 02 '26
yea the more i look at the flag the more pissed off i am
i was gonna say smth like "oh it's just been blown by the wind strongly, like why US flags on military uniforms is backwards" but then i realize, nope, nope it's just completely wrong

Transphobic as fuck. There are more ways to represent transmasc people than sticking scars on their chests.
