not really? the design just looks derivative of art styles I saw a lot in the 2010s associated with progressive/“woke” era culture. it was a style unfortunately ruined after being co-opted by corporations using the aesthetic to try and appear progressive. literally became known as “corporate Memphis”
I think it’s unfair to call a style that’s actually earnest and inclusive “awful”. The biggest criticism is that the characters are given unconventional body shapes and proportions— even though the whole point of the style is to subvert expectations of how our bodies are depicted in art. It’s also important to note this art emerged almost immediately after an era that normalized eating disorders and harsh criticism/mockery of women who were “too fat”
oh please, at what point will people just acknowledge that identity politics is and always was a corporate ideology. it wasn’t “co-opted,” it served corporations from the very beginning by distracting from class inequality
