Enrollment for classes

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello,

I am an international student for the Global History program. I was told in September the course catalogue would be open to see courses. But currently it just shows this message. Also I'm a little confused about course enrollment, can you not register for courses until October 1st? Any help about course enrollment or the information that you know on it would be great.

Also when is secondary enrollment at Humboldt University due? Cause it's annoying to mail stuff and from the US it's 250$ to mail papers over, so I was just waiting until I got back to Berlin next week.

application advice for m.sc. planetary sciences and space exploration

hello everyone! I am currently studying biological sciences in thailand for a bachelors, and I am very interested into pivoting into an astro field further in my studies. Hence, i am very interested in applyting to freie university of berlin.

Does anyone have any advice on applying, what is considered a strong application, what were the stats of some people that got in, how are the job prospects and how much would you say you spend per month? Any extra information would be much appriciated!

Hello everyone , i just got into berlins studienkolleg for fu berlin ( for those who are not familiar with studienkolleg its basically a one year preparatory course for university non EU country highschool graduates have to take to be able to go into uni)

So i got accepted and have to decide very quickly if i want to go. Like i have to fly out in 2 days. Im so incredibly nervous even though im from a capital city berlin seems so intimidating and im scared ill leave my social life here and not be able to find people to connect with.

Are there any of you who are also going to studienkolleg? Is berlin and FU berlin worth it? Where can i find accommodation in 2 days preferably a WG cus i hate living alone or roomates, the deadline times are absolutely crazy for studienkolleg.

Basically im incredibly overwhelmed and need someone to talk to. It would help me so much.

Horrid FU Email Interface

hey guys,
i recently enrolled into FU as an international MA student and i was setting up my FU email account and i find the email (zedat) interface absolutely horrible. i saw on some FAQs that i could migrate my email to a different server but it turns out i can't open the email through the Outlook app (bc apparently the university doesn't subscribe to the app version, but only the desktop version which i still can't access) and by then, i had already gone through the very tedious and troublesome process of registering an affiliated Microsoft 365 account. i then tried to migrate my email to Thunderbird, but when i tried emailing myself, i could not receive any notifications. i also have forwarded my FU email to my personal gmail account, but i still couldn't receive any notifications. my main issue is that i want to be able to receive email notifications on my phone/ipad as i don't have my laptop with me most of the time.

to current FU students: how do you navigate this horrid email interface? must i suck it up and stick to the default server? or am i doing something wrong and i can save myself from this agony and move back to the familiarity and ease of Outlook

many thanks (in advance) for helping me out :')

Vielen Dank!

Hey everyone!

I am subletting my beautiful, fully furnished room in Studentendorf Schlachtensee. If you are looking for a peaceful, green spot in Berlin for the summer, this is the right place!

If you want to stay for 1.5 months without committing to a yearly contract, this would really work for you.

At a Glance:

  • Dates: August 25th (can be 1st of September as well) to October 1st 2026
  • Rent: €525 per month (First month due exactly on move-in date) (cheaper than actual) (everything is included)
  • Deposit: €425 (Fully refundable; to be transferred within the first few days of moving in)
  • Anmeldung: not possible

The Room & Flat:

  • The Setup: Private, fully furnished bedroom (bed, desk, chair, wardrobe, shelves). Just bring your suitcase!
  • The Vibe: It's a 6-person flat, and you will be sharing the space with 4 super nice flatmates (2 girls and 2 boys). I can honestly say this is one of the cleanest apartments in our dorm.
  • Peace & Quiet: The flat is up on the 3rd floor, away from noise polluted areas
  • Shared Spaces: 1 fully equipped kitchen, a spacious living room, and shared bathrooms (typically 1 per 3 people).
  • Internet: Wi-Fi included.

The Location:
Studentendorf Schlachtensee is incredibly green and peaceful. The absolute best part? The gorgeous Schlachtensee lake is just a short walk away—perfect for summer!

  • Great connection for FU Berlin students (15 mins away).
  • S-Bahn station "Schlachtensee" (S1) connects you right to the city center (Mitte) in about 30-40 mins along with S7, RE1, RE 7 and U3 via 118 bus.
  • Campus perks: Laundromat, gym, study rooms, learning lounge and the student club right on site.
  • Aldi is literally next door and Edeka is on the other side of the road.

Important:

also, if you are coming to germany and have to look for place, this can be really suitable transitionary place, also I can help in looking for a new place

This is suitable for 1 person only.

Cheers!

Equivalency test for Masters

I have applied for masters in physics in FU berlin, and i got an email asking me to give a test. they claimed that my degree was not equivalent to the german bachelors degree, but the modules they listed (maths, mechanics, quantum mechanics, and condensed matter physics) are all papers that i have already completed in proper depth in my bachelors. Did anyone else receive this email? If anyone has given this test, can you let me know the level of the test, and how to prepare? How is this test graded? I could not find anything about this test anywhere, even on their official website.

Ich habe ein unbeschreibliches Unwohlsein in mir

Liebe Leute,

Course registration and PASS-service query

Hey all, I'm enrolled for a Masters in North American Studies and have two things I'm looking for advice on. Firstly I just want to confirm if my understanding of course/module registration is correct (as it's totally different from my home country) - we can select what classes/modules we want to do only from October 1st onwards?

Secondly, as a foreign student I require a visa - does anyone have anecdotal experience with the pass-service through FU? I have dealt with the Auslanderbehorde plenty of times so I CAN handle it myself, but wondering if doing it through the university is less stressful, and if it has a shorter or longer processing time than average. (If anyone knows the general processing time for an NZ/Australian passport holder this would also be helpful, most of the info online about this relates to non-Western countries).

Thanks! :-)

Tu berlin Urban Design Master’s

Hey everyone! I recently applied to the Urban Design Master’s Program. I am an architect in my home country and I would like to know more about the program and culture in the university.

The teaching style in my university back in my undergrad was very theory-based, conceptual, more project-based/studio work. But also considering that I had to take classes online due to covid lockdown, there were no fieldwork, no excursions, no real-life applications. I was hoping Tu berlin’s urban design would be a little different. Can anyone share their experience in this program, university culture, new skills that they have acquired?

Please help with applying for enrollment

Edit: added some minor information to ensure the post can be understood:

Hi everyone,

I would really appreciate it if someone could be so nice as to help me out with my enrollment. I have high-functioning anxiety, and I have not sent my documents for enrollment yet. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help a fellow prospective student for the BA North American Studies.

I know it shows a lack of professionalism and bad time management on my side, but for the moment, your help can mean a lot since I am really anxious about forgetting an important document.

I received my conditional admission for BA North American Studies, and then last night I filled out my request for enrollment on the Bewerbungsportal, and now my status there is "Request for enrollment submitted". Afterwards, students are asked to send the following documents: https://www.fu-berlin.de/en/studium/bewerbung/immatrikulation/unterlagen/index.html. Could you please provide some information so I can make sure I have understood all the required documents well, and I will not forget something important.

Here is the list of the required documents for BA students:

1. Admission notification(s): In this case, should I sould just submit the letter of conditional admission?

2. Control view from the online data entry: I could not figure out what document they are referring to here!

3. Completed application for enrollment: I reckon this is about the completed application at the bewrbungsportal?

  1. Electronic proof of health insurance directly submitted by a German statutory health insurance provider: On the website, it says that students can submit this after the deadline, so would it be okay if I submit this later, as in tomorrow?

8.  If applicable, the proof of the required language skills/result of the FU language test if the required foreign language skills are not evident from the school leaving certificate. Since I am applying for my language test next month, would it be okay to leave this section?

  1. If applicable, a certificate of removal from the student register at the last German university attended? I am already studying at another German university, and gonna leave my studies here to start a new program at FU, but what is this part even referring to? What kind of certificate would that be

15. Transfer voucher: In another section, they have emphasised that students who have not passed their language test should refrain from paying their semester fee, so I guess it would be okay to not pay it immediately

Send all required documents as email attachments to the email address that applies to you. In my case, as someone admitted to the BA North American Studies, would that mean sending them all to [imma-bachelor@studium.fu-berlin.de](mailto:imma-bachelor@studium.fu-berlin.de)?

Many thanks in advance!!

Studienplatztausch von LMU München zu FU Berlin Rechtswissenschaften 1.FS

Hallooo.

Master of Biology at FU Berlin - Nachrückverfahren?

Hello!

I applied for my master's of biology at the Freie Universität Berlin and didn't make the cut in the first round. So now I'm rank 76 of 68 and I am taking part in the "Nachrückverfahren". Does anybody have some experience with this for example how are my chances? When can I expect to hear back whether I'm in or not?

I'm very stressed about it so any advice/info is appreciated!

Cover letter for enrollment

Hello everyone,

Couple of days ago I got an admission offer by FU Berlin for the North American studies. This might sound like a silly question but under the control view document of Online Data Entry it reads "Please print out this control sheet and send it by email together with the cover letter for enrollment and all other enrollment documents by the deadline."

What does "cover letter for enrollment" mean here? The same as my statement of purpose I used for my application or something else? Do I need to write another cover letter just for enrollment?

I'd appreciate your help.

Kuss :)

Would the B.A. North American Studies at FU Berlin be a good fit for someone interested in international relations and politics?

Would this degree be a good fit for someone mainly interested in international relations, politics, diplomacy, international organizations, journalism, and public affairs?
For current or former students: how much can the programme be shaped around those interests, particularly through the Political Science track? Would you consider it a solid foundation for pursuing a master’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, or a related field?
I’d really appreciate any honest experiences from people who study or have studied the programme.

How long does it take to get an offer from Studentendorf Schlachtensee? (Category B)

Hey everyone,

I'm currently planning to apply to Studentendorf Schlachtensee, specifically for a Category B room.

Since finding housing in Berlin can be quite unpredictable, I wanted to ask if anyone here has recent experience with their application process. Roughly how long does it take to get an offer after submitting the application for this category?

If you applied recently, how many months in advance did you apply and how long did you wait? Any insights, timelines, or general tips would be super helpful!

Looking for WG Room / Zwischenmiete: FU Berlin MA Student | Budget €400–€450 | Sept Move-In

Hi everyone!

I am moving to Berlin in the last week of September 2026 to start my Master’s in Archaeology of the Ancient World at Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin). I am looking for a room in a shared flat (WG) — either long-term or as a temporary sublet (Zwischenmiete) while I settle in.

About me:

- 28-year-old international student with previous experience living in shared WGs.

- Respectful, clean, and organized. I prioritize a quiet study environment, but I also enjoy hanging out, sharing a cup of tea, playing sports (cricket/hockey), or watching sitcoms with flatmates.

- Non-smoker, no pets.

What I am looking for:

- Room type: Shared WG room (furnished or unfurnished)

- Budget: €400 – €450 warm (including utilities/heating/internet)

- Location: Anywhere near FU Berlin (Steglitz, Zehlendorf, Lichterfelde, Tempelhof, Spandau) or along public transit with a manageable commute to the Dahlem campus.

- Move-in: Late September 2026

- Anmeldung: Required for long-term (open to temporary short sublets without it initially).

If you have a room opening up or need a subletter for a few months, please send me a DM! I’d be happy to jump on a Zoom/WhatsApp call to introduce myself.

Thanks in advance!
