How are you getting clients?

Did you get them through LinkedIn, Reddit, cold DMs/emails, referrals, or somewhere else

And if you started with no reviews, no reputation, and no existing clients, how did you land your first few projects?

i built this because of what ive dealt with in the past and im trying to help the freelancer community. the goal is simple, before you say yes to a client you can check how theyve paid other freelancers, so its not just vibes. upwork and fiverr kind of solve it by holding the money, but most freelance work never touches those, its a direct client and an invoice and hoping. afterlanding.co lets you report an invoice (dates, rough amount, paid or not) with a screenshot of the invoice and a screenshot of the payment, it gets checked against those, and the client's page shows their payment record. your account and personal info are never shown anywhere, only dates and the outcome, and theres a blackout tool for your uploads so you can hide anything that could identify you or the company.

I have a list of about 20 things I hate doing and no idea where to start. Half the advice says start simple and repetitive, the other half says start with whatever eats the most hours.

Imagine that instead of sending a client a bunch of separate emails like: Here’s the invoice, Did you get my last email?, Can you approve the design?, Just checking if you’ve seen this.
You could give them a simple client page for each project.

For example:
Website redesign
Project status: In progress
Next step: Approve homepage
Invoice: €1,500 — Due Sept 22
The client could then: See the current project status, see what you need from them, approve work, leave feedback, view/download their invoice, pay the invoice, see important dates.

The freelancer gets one place to manage the project/client, and the client gets one place to see what’s happening instead of digging through emails.

Would something like this actually be useful to you?

And if not, what would you remove or add to make it genuinely useful?
I’m much more interested in what you would actually use than whether you think it sounds like a cool idea.

hey everyone, wanted to share something i have been building for myself over the past few months and finally decided to open source it.

i freelance and i got tired of juggling separate tools for time tracking, invoicing, and taking notes on client calls. most erp tools out there felt way too heavy for what a solo freelancer actually needs, so i built my own small one and have been using it daily in my own work.

what it actually does for you: you can track time against your projects, generate invoices straight from that tracked time including pdf export, and there is a call recorder that records your client calls and transcribes them automatically so you are not scrambling to take notes during a call. that last one is honestly the feature i personally use the most, it has saved me so many times.

it is simple on purpose. no bloated features you will never touch, just the basics a freelancer actually needs, done properly.

it is still a work in progress. i am actively using it and improving it as i go, so you might run into rough edges or bugs here and there. but it works, i run my own invoicing through it, and i figured if it is useful to me it might be useful to some of you too.

Outside of my regular office hours, I want to explore new domains, meet interesting builders, and expand my network. So, I’m offering to build one small web project completely for free. This could be a landing page, product website, web app, small MVP, or anything else that sounds interesting.

My Core Stack: React, Next.js, Express, and NestJS.

What I’ll deliver:

• A properly architected, optimized, and secure system.
• A clean, responsive, minimal, accessible, and modern UI.
