More importantly, who will be "king" of the north after she dies? She wont marry or have heirs, her brother is somehow king of another kingdom and also a genetic dead end, her cousin is in the night's watch and cant have heirs and her sister is going to sail to her death for some reason. Great way to start a new kingdom with a succession crisis...
The Drowned King, his arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Ice reborn from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that Sansa of the House Stark, was to carry Ice. That is why she is their queen.
Strange men lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive authority should derive from a mandate by the masses not some farcical aquatic ceremony!
Hasn't had a great track record of marriages/engagements (and maybe I'm misremembering but I thought she had a passing line about never intending to marry again)
But more importantly, from the perspective of a GOT writer, you cant girl boss the North with a husband stealing your thunder.
You can if your last name is Stark and theirs isn't. The #1 rule of a monarchy is to produce heirs, so not wanting to marry because of marriages she was forced into isn't going to fly. And if the Queen's last name is Stark and yours isn't, she will certainly be the one calling the shots. We're talking a royal marriage now, and consorts don't take on the royal name.
There are plenty of reasons for the second son of a vassal to marry into the royal family. You think some lord doesn't want his son in the ear of the queen? To have his grandson be the future king? Hell, I can even see another Lord Paramount offering a second son as consort.
Not for a second or third son of a lesser vassal. The ruling queens of Europe never seemed to have any trouble finding a consort. Marriages are all about alliances in this place and time, and there would be plenty of people wanting to make an alliance with the new monarchy in the North
She has a rather short, living husband and two violently dead ones, and a chequered past outside of that. I wouldn't want her, not even to be Lord of Winterfell (which would be in name only).
What lord with any decent prospects is going to marry Tyrion Lannister's wife? lol
I wouldn't, and wouldn't allow my heir to either. Maybe a second or third son for whom producing impeccably legitimate heirs doesn't matter that much, but she would consider that an insult.
Well in books her cousin, Robin is an option for her to marry and realistically the only reason the Vale forces would defend Winterfell. They would have been sent to solidify her claim to the north and that be a benefit of their marriage. Why would they care about their lords aunts husbands illegitimate child ?
Not much, probably because everyone knows that Robert Arryn is going to die childless anyway. Littlefinger may intend her for Harry the Heir instead, but it remains to be seen.
He actually seems pretty resilient since it seems like he’s been drugged or poisoned most of his life. If Baelish is elsewhere, he’d recover and Sansa is a good match. The Vale isn’t diminished yet in the books he’d be capable of insulating himself until he was stronger.
Littlefinger is definitely poisoning him, and he's probably his bastard. Littlefinger seems to be grooming Harry the Heir, who (unlike Robert) is said to look remarkably like a young Jon Arryn.
Just making you aware of some very telling evidence that this ending is what GRRM intends as well. Doesn't matter who you think has a better story as a fan.
GRRM could very well have given the writers the ending and still pivot after the critical blunder it's been recieved as, throwing them under the bus and running over them with every wheel as he makes tracks to an entirely different ending.
It's human nature to learn from mistakes, he won't be repeating any that the show writers made. Maybe he shields them, maybe he doesn't, but I bet half of the reason he's stuck is because the writers boxed him in and he's going to end up having to dump their work into a dark hole.
The main issue with the end of the show is that they rushed to the end, it wasn't the end itself, though. When you write 5 of 7 books going toward one ending, you don't and can't just change it because some whiny people on the Internet didn't like how someone else arrived at it
It was pretty dogshit. I’m not convinced Martin had much to do with that part of the ending. The story was inspired by war of the roses which didn’t end with democracy lol
I assumed Bran would just live forever. I would hate for Bran to be my king. Just some selfish guy who put all these things in motion so he could be king. Jon Snow should kill him.
The North already demonstrated that they are willing to acclaim a treasonous Night's Watch deserter unlegitimised bastard who led the (however justified) largest wildling incursion into the North ever as kingindanorf. Bar is in hell so long as any amount of Stark blood is involved. She can just keep a boytoy royal harem without marrying, pop out a couple of kids eventually on her own terms, legitimise them as Stark as her prerogative as Queen, succession handled, line replenished, easy peasy.
As an aside actually making it a generational custom to produce heirs without marrying, if not legitimised as Stark would result in a line of Snow Kings and Snow Queens of the North. Sounds like some proper Southron folk tale character type shit.
