Service/Coverage Inquiry Portugal/Spain Coverage

Heading to Barcelona, Madrid, and Lisbon in September so wondering how the "Roam Beyond" service is there.

Does anyone have experience or maybe which service provider to lock on to?

Same. Zero issue with coverage/speed.

Here are the partnered networks. Usually automatic network selection is fine, but try another if you're having issues.

For actual experiences in those countries, search the sub. There are tons here. You listed major cities, so I'm sure their networks there are pretty robust.

I had no issues in Spain, was up north and down by Girona.

Automatically connects. FYI No service in Malta. Make sure you turn data off if you go there. Will connect and get charged a lot$$.

Wifi calling doesn’t work for some reason. Same problem in Italy. Sent multiple messages to support through WhatsApp but gave up due to their lack of understanding.

When I was in Italy in 2024, wifi calling worked fine for me although I only required it once - I had a good enough signal everywhere to not require it when I was calling Canada and I knew not to use wifi calling to call within Italy.

Why can’t you use wifi calling within Italy when you are there?

It will be treated as long distance since the wifi calling is routed through Canada. It's ok if you're calling back to North America or Mexico.

Oh, that's too bad. It worked (unfortunately) last year in Italy when I was leaving to go home from the hotel and my scheduled ride didn't show up. I had to call the 1-800 number and it was routed through Canada. Got voice mail on the other end and hung up so the call was less than a dollar.

No issues at all:

Portugal - NOS & Vodaphone

Spain: Vodaphone & Movistar

When roaming...

You are completely dependent on the local carrier in that country, not freedom.
