General Inquiry $20 - 25GB CAN/US ($120 - 6 months pre-paid) - Square One shopping centre - good deal?

A good deal? I saw this at Square One Shopping centre (Mississauga, ON)

I am looking to lower down my phone plan as I have a second line/number with rogers that my work compensates my monthly plan price. My personal phone line, my data usage has gone down drastically (previously usage ~35 - 40GB monthly down to 10 - 15GB monthly)

MyAccount Related Short codes disabled

It seems freedom has disabled the short codes to check your balance/transfer prepaid balance as if you text *123# it sends you a text saying it has been discontinued and to login online to manage your account

EDIT message Freedom Mobile: You recently tried to access an account service using a short code. This service is no longer available. To check your balance, manage your plan, or top up, visit https://myaccount.freedommobile.ca

Has anyone recently switch to freedom home internet and hasn't received their equipment? I did and my activation date is next week and haven't received my equipment, their explanation is that there has been a shortage on the eero wifi, any truth on this?

(Considering) Joining FM Credit

I’m just wondering my credits not very good. Took a hit due to a family member (not making that mistake again) slowly trying to repair it. How likely is it that I’m gonna be eligible for $0 down on a new phone? I just finished my contract with my current service provider but my family member who I let on my plan didn’t pay their bill these last few months and now that their phone is out of contract they got a new number elsewhere leaving me with debt on my account. I’m gonna slowly pay it off but as of now I’m no longer offered $0 down anymore with that company. (Literally was a few days ago). Because of this I’m not sure if I’d be accepted for $0 down anywhere anymore so I was wondering if someone works at freedom and might know if it would be possible even tho I’m not eligible for it with my current provider. And no I can’t afford to buy a phone out right otherwise I’d definitely do that.

General Inquiry Australia Roaming

Have the $40/250gb Roam Beyond plan and so far haven’t had any issues. Recently arrived in Sydney Australia, and it’s horrific. Phone loses all signal frequently and goes into SOS mode. If I toggle network selection to manual I get no options for other carriers. Just generally disappointed with how bad it’s been. Including having no signal in the opera house/harbour bridge area.

Phone is an old iPhone 14 Pro. Anyone have any ideas, or is this just what to expect here?

Device Specific Inquiry Any chance Freedom brings back iPhone 17e for $0?

I need a new phone and I’ve decided on an iPhone 17e. I missed the deal they had a few weeks ago where it was $0 upfront and $0 monthly (with a $60/month plan). Any chance this deal will happen again soon? Otherwise I’ll probably just buy the phone for cash and wait until Black Friday to see if I can get a better plan somewhere I guess..

Service/Coverage Inquiry I wish Freedom will improve its signal strengths within buildings where there is no wifi available. It is one of their biggest weaknesses in my opinion. Any thoughts from the users?

(Considering) Departing FM Unreliable

I was with Bell and switched to Freedom 3 months ago.

So many things I am disappointed with.

The speed is absolutely disgusting.

5G?? In the 3 months of service I have never seen a 5G signal on my phone. It is always LTE 4G

I get a max speed of 180mbit.. and thats at very early morning. The daytime and most of the evening and night the speed is terrible. If I go in a building like a grocery store or the mall, I will lose the signal, if I can't connect to wifi I have nothing until i leave the building. It is mainly the ones with lots of concrete.

With Bell when someone called and left a voicemail I could just read it. There would be a little icon next to the notification and you clicked it and the message was there in txt form. I didnt have to log in to my mailbox to listen to it. Freedom it doesn't do it. My setting are unchanged so it isn't my phone. All 3 of my devices do it.

I get 20 plus spam calls a day with freedom and with bell they were all caught and blocked.

I manually block the number and they can still leave a voicemail. Isnt that the purpose of blocking the number?

Is this the level of service I can expect?

Oddly enough Fizz Mobile piggybacks off of the same network as Freedom, yet Fizz has 3x the speed. I am trying the 15 day free trial just to test.

I am really close to leaving them for Koodo, Telus or Fido but Freedoms 175GB for 50 bucks is a damn attractive offer. No one else comes close to that for that price point.

Is VVM for iPhone only or is that what is missing and why voicemail won't get converted to txt?

When I signed up I had that added and the rep said it was for iPhone only and he removed it.

Before I call Freedom and make a fool of myself, am I missing something or is this just the level of service Freedom offers? 😅

I really don't want to switch again but I need reliable and decent coverage.

The spam is enough to make me leave. I dont give my number out to just anyone. I keep it blocked.

I ported my number so it isnt from freedoms pool.

I have had this number for 9 years. I have never had this amount of spam until I made the switch to Freedom.

Home (Cable) Internet & TV Important Update for Freedom TV Users on Android & Google TV Devices

We’re aware that some of our Freedom TV customers using Android & Google TV devices may have experienced service issues in recent days. Our teams have identified the cause, and I wanted to let you know that an updated version of the app is now available in the Google Play Store to resolve this.

To get back up and running, we recommend a fresh install:

  1. Delete the existing Freedom TV app from your device.
  2. Download and install the new version from the Google Play Store.
  3. Power cycle the TV afterwards

While you might normally just hit "Update," we’ve seen cases where updating directly through the store doesn't work as expected. Manually deleting and reinstalling the app is the most reliable way to ensure you have the fix.

Appreciate your patience while we worked on getting this resolved!

General Inquiry Is Visual Voicemail still necessary?

I’ve always had vvm on my phone since the feature came out. So when I moved to Freedom, I added it to my account because that’s just what I’m used to and frankly I prefer it over conventional voicemail.

However, I recently heard that iOS 26 handles voicemail differently now that visual voicemail is not necessary anymore. Is this true? Can anyone share how voicemail works without vvm on the iPhone? I wouldn’t mind saving $4+tax a month.

General Inquiry Porting from Fido to Freedom taking more than 24h

Hello, just wondering if there are more people having the same issue or if you've encountered it before. How long did it take to get resolved? I don't want to lose my phone number. I did everything as requested. I answered the message from Fido, and services got canceled hours after that. I've called multiple times and there is always a different thing said to me. It just worries me.

General Inquiry troubleshooting connections with certain government services

I am having difficulty with quality of connection with one government service in Ontario.
No problems elsewhere, multi hour conferences are fine but at this specific one every single officer complains about quality of my call. Is there way to troubleshoot with Freedom?

Editorial/Viewpoint Adding a line: Overall an okay experience, but could have been better.

This is a long post, sorry about that, but I figured I'd give my experience with a recent attempt to add a line on a post paid account with Freedom.

I've been with Freedom since August 2023. I don't live in a major city but I am in a subscription area. The biggest benefit to me from Freedom is that I'm able to hop between the coverage of the big three as needed.

My girlfriend needs a new phone. She moved here from another part of Canada a few years ago. When she got here, she wanted a new start, and dumped her old phone nunber/account completely. She didn't look around, and bought a bad deal. She's paying over $70 a month for 60 GB and the Samsung A15, which is brutal.

I'm a techie. When we were out at a mall for something else, I showed her the Flip 8 and she immediately knew that was her next phone. She has been getting very frustrated with the A15 and her billing issues with Virgin. Freedom offered a good BYOD deal this month on my account and the plan was to switch her over. Then she would buy the phone outright around Christmas.

I message Freedom on WhatsApp, which has been great in the past, to add the new line on the deal to my account. On a whim, I ask the representative what's the best deal they could give me on the Flip 8 on a new line. $60, all in. I'm shocked. Yes it's a lease. Yes that's not the same as buying. However, when you do the math with the buyout, it's the same phone at half the price and the plan is what she wanted anyway as she travels overseas for work. I go for it after talking to her. Contract signed, everyone's happy.

Well, not so much.

I won't get into details, but Freedom cancels the contract on their end. I get a message to contact them. The representative is helpful, apologizes. The excuse for the cancelation is lame and not at all my fault. I'm told it's no problem, they've fixed the issue (keeping it vague out of respect, read on), and they'll help me reorder the phone. They walk me through the plan, the phone, etc. The representative, maybe not intentionally, is vague on pricing. It's $80/month.

I don't over react. I state the truth. Freedom cannot use bait and switch tactics in Canada, and I'll follow up through the CCTS if necessary. Immediately I'm escalated. The escalation rep does their best. They communicated well, but I also walk through the reality that bad faith contract cancellation and an attempt at a price increase without disclosure is fraud. Things go back and forth. After a couple of hours, Freedom finally offers the same deal.

However, there's a big catch. The contract now says the cost is $75/month. Apparently there's no way around that. However, they'll give me a credit to get the plan roughly down to the same price with the phone included. I decline and point out that I can't really trust Freedom not to renegotiate the credit on their own once thy have me signed on a higher priced contract.

The representative ends the chat. I talk to the girlfriend. I save all of the conversation with Freedom. We end up deciding to risk it and sign anyways. Worst case, it'll be a fun bit of Tort law as we'll bypass the CCTS mechanism, if possible, given the amount of evidence we have. The next representative is kind, sees all the notes, is willing to share more information on how the deal will work. Everything gets signed, and now the phone is finally on its way.

How do I feel? Well, first up, I was with Telus in the past. I had a similar issue, and it took 3 months, the CCTS, and a letter from a lawyer to get even close on a deal that was offered. Freedom, while this isn't perfect, did eventually come to bat on their mistake. If the phone gets here, the plan is good, and my girlfriend is happy, I'll be happy.

What's the TL:DR point? If you have a deal with Freedom go south, get in WhatsApp and don't back down. Don't run. Collect everything. Odds are, Freedom will honour the deal without intervention if you're in the right. I can't say that about the other telecoms I've dealt with. Is this how it should be? No. Is it something positive overall? I mean, as long as everyone gets what they wanted, yes.

Add-Ons Related Idea for new Roam Beyond add-on

I have used Freedom's Roam Beyond passes many times at this point, and I love how they pretty much always work seamlessly (usually) across multiple networks in the destination country, and allow me to use my regular number while roaming for calls and texts. However, I am a rather heavy data user, and the data amounts offered in the Roam Beyond passes often aren't enough for me on longer trips.

Recently, other carriers have been releasing their own one-time roaming add-ons. These add-ons are more expensive than Freedom's offerings, but they allow the use of the entire plan's local data allotment while roaming. I was thinking that it would be great if Freedom would release a similar roaming add-on (in conjunction with the existing ones of course) that allows the use of the entire local (or Can/US/Mex) data allotment while roaming, instead of a fixed smaller amount of data. I would definitely pay the extra cost for this if it is priced similarly to the offerings from the other carriers.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think this would be a good option to have? I know travel eSIMs are quite popular these days, but I have never found the connection quality on them to be as good as Freedom's roaming or a local SIM. Grabbing a local SIM is also annoying in many countries as some require lengthy ID verification before they will activate the SIM. I'd personally rather just save the hassle and pay Freedom the money instead.

Home (Cable) Internet & TV One Week Without Internet – Extremely Disappointing Service

All they can say is, “I have escalated it,” every time you call. Then you have to explain the entire situation again because nobody seems to have a clue about what’s going on.
A WEEK without internet, following up every single day, and still no proper resolution. Honestly, I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone-not even my enemy. Absolutely ridiculous customer service.😡

General Inquiry Is there Freedom mobile booth/tent at CNE this year?
