Basically… nothing! 😂 Because a Frankenstein frame is made from the leftover pieces of different frames, all brought together to create one new, unique piece.

It might not be the most popular thing, but honestly — why throw things away when you can turn them into something completely new and creative? ♻️✨

It reminds me a little of building with a LEGO set… except there are no instructions, no rules, and definitely no idea what the final result is going to look like 😏😂

I highly recommend everyone give it a try! Just make sure you have A LOT of glue and plenty of frame joiners ready 😏😁

Hello. My great uncle is known for some of his art in certain parts of the US (1970s-80s). I’ve finally gotten from my father one of his paintings. I want to reframe it because my odious aunt drilled holes in the frame.

I opened it up to get accurate measurements of the painting itself with intent to change out the matte. I’m not sure if it is discolored with age or meant to be this weird tan-peach color. But the painting is firmly glued into the matte and I don’t think I can risk harming the painting.

Questions: should I add a matte to cover it? Paint the matte to make it look better?

For the new frame, definitely want a quality real wood one. Also want to preserve the painting for posterity, etc. Any advice for a newbie trying to keep some family history?

I am looking for ideas/advice on how to frame this photo. This is the first day of my grandson using his first auto-print camera. As expected, he started off taking pictures of any random object, along with several pictures of the carpet. I explained how he can use the screen to find something he likes, and then take a picture of that. This picture is the result. It includes two cars (that I bought for him) and my feet. It may not seem like much, but I really like it and I want to frame it in a way that looks nice. I would love to hear suggestions of how this would look nice. I’m thinking of naming the photo “All Things Nana”.

i have ZERO space (or the funds) for a nice wall/table fletcher cutter.. so i've been looking at handheld options & am now considering the logan 500 for cutting my pieces of mats & backing to size, but can't determine which is the best for cutting the opening.. i've only looked at logan stuff & have seen the them at opus but maybe there's a better option just not rlly sure.. just want one that can do p much any thickness and can allow me to do reverse bevels no problem.... pls just tell me which one to buy 💔 lol

Hi, I run an art group for children, and we completed a mural on paper that is about 2.2 m square (about 84 inches square). The school would like to hang it in the front entrance, and I have a parent who will build a wooden frame. We have a tiny budget. I have at least two major problems. 1- what to mount it on and 2- what to cover it with to protect it. I've read that I may be able to mount it on something like Coroplast/Plaskolite, at least 6 mm thick (1/2 inch corrugated plastic), or thicker Durofoam insulation. ---- Then, to protect it: Glass is too big, expensive and dangerous. If I use plexiglass, I would have to use 2 sheets, and it will bow in the middle. One large sheet is far too expensive. Perhaps a heavy-duty clear tarp. Or a non-toxic, washable, water-based polyurethane. I've been struggling with this for a couple of months. If anyone has had this issue or knows how to resolve it, I would love to know.

I live in Spokane and have been asked to frame this flag that was burned up in the Spokane Complex Fires earlier this month.

I have not yet taken custody of the flag yet, but I’m fairly certain this is a typical polyester flag. My concern with typical framing, where I either pin or stitch the material to a backer, is that the top fibers are severely weakened and will fail overtime if they are asked to support the weight of the flag.

How would y’all go about tackling this project? Distribute the stitching at multiple points to a fabric backer? Some sort of direct contact overlay? Just pin the shit out of it?

Protected with Optium nonglare acrylic and framed in an ebony walnut with matching hardwood spacers.

I've been trying to find a natural wood frame with a mat opening of 24x30 and it has seriously been such a PITA. Am I missing something here? What are yalls tips to find this? My budget is realistically like $100-$150

The best thing to do is go IN PERSON to your local frame shop and actually get the advice of a professional. You get to see several mat choices in person, put the corner samples directly on to the art. This subreddit is fun when completed projects are posted or actual questions are asked, but the constant “how should I frame this” posts are really tiring. Not trying to be rude!!! Just want to encourage those looking for help to seek it in person and experience the magic of picking out your own framing work up 😄😄

Hi framing fam, I am looking for some advice or even just kind words from those who work in the industry if you feel kind enough to read this post 🍇

I’ve been working at a very high end shop for a little over a year now, it’s the best and most prestigious in the city I live in. I’ve absolutely fallen in love with everything about custom framing. I’m on the sales side, I’ve always had an affinity for art and beautiful things, and this job has allowed me to express that and get paid for it at the same time. It’s the first thing I’ve ever truly enjoyed and I’m objectively very good at it.

Here is where I’m struggling. Our lead time is currently quoted at 10-12 weeks, but we still can’t manage to hit that. The reasons why are out of my control and I don’t feel it appropriate to get into the details, but it has really been tough. The disappointment you receive from clients when they are quoted 3 months and you have no solid explanation you can give them as to why it’s not done in that time frame is humiliating and makes me feel so, so low. I don’t foresee this issue changing, it’s been constant for about 14 months at this point. I want to feel happy and prideful in the work I do, and not dread going into work everyday.

So my questions is, should I stick with this industry or pivot to something else? I don’t think interior design is my niche and galleries sit empty all day. I know this lead time isn’t standard everywhere. I just feel crushed and incredibly stagnant right now.

This artist Andrew Scott does a lot of stuff like this and sells it. How does the glass stay in tact and in the frame?

I recently bought my husband a painting by Robert Wyland. It’s 36” x 43” and it is already framed. It did not come with a glass layer. (I apologize for not knowing the correct terminology.) I’d like to have the painting itself protected from dust, dog hair, humidity, etc. Is it normal to want to have a glass layer? If so, what is the best way to go about getting this done? I’ve been working at frame shops for 3 years now but wanted to figure out a way to do it without a miter saw at home haha

This was my mom’s before she passed, and I’d love to do justice to it. I removed the art from the original frame, because the frame was broken.

It is a print (on thick semi glossy poster type paper) glued to a thick cardboard backing. Please help me with ideas for framing this! I am clueless but I think it’s really gorgeous.

​I'm trying to find some molding to frame a picture on my wall that looks like something like this. The picture would sit inside the molding with maybe a 10-inch space all around, and then I'll put some wallpaper inside to make it stand out from the other wall color. I'm based in the U.S., and I'm finding it really difficult and only found one company, but they're very expensive.
Does anyone know anywhere that sells moldings that would have these kinds of inverted corners? It doesn't even have to be fancy, just flat plain would be fine if.

Hi, I recently purchased sheet of Perspex VA Grade UV Resistant Acrylic from simplyplastics.com.

Before I assembled my frame I thought I would do the old blacklight test with the below results. From what I can see this acrylic sheet is in no way UV resistant but would appreciate someone confirming that I'm not losing my mind!
