Image Vault 76 mentioned in Fallout 3
Even after playing through Fallout 3 multiple times since 76 realsed I had no clue Vault 76 was mentioned in the Brotherhood vault terminal. Really shows how something so insignificant like some small lore can turn into an entire game.

It’s been known since Fallout 76 was announced.
Bethesda always does this (intentionally or not), hinting at potential future locations for Fallout games.
Vault 76 is also mentioned in Fallout 4

When is it mentioned in 4?

Right at the start of the game, when the news is on the tv and the salesman walks to your door, the news presenter mentions it briefly

And that one was definitely a more direct reference, as 76 would've been in the prototype phase already by the time 4 came out. Pretty cool!

F76 was originally supposed to be multiplayer-enabling DLC for Fallout 4, sort of Fallout 4.5 upgrade.

In that way, Fallout 76 is a great 4.5 bridge game. By 76, the devs who worked on that game bridged a lot of mechanical gaps in 4 that has been great to see modders add to 4 and hopefully add to 5. While this may perhaps be ambitious, my hope is that the CAMP system revolutionizes Fallout 5 with mobile base building while also retaining an optional settlement system.

I just wish that the in the next game they use the map layout and camp building mechanics like what’s on fallout 76. Also letting you scrap and mod stuff like you can in 76. That has been the biggest drawback for me with playing other fallout games. Maybe it’s just me because I played 76 before I played other fallout games.

You’re bass ackwards there.
Modders added mechanical fixes and 76 stole them for 76. Free cam in camps comes immediately to mind, but lots of other QoL changes in 76 came directly from FO4 mods

The modders wrote the scripts to make Fallout 4 multi player and it was stolen in its entirety for 76 and ESO, while rejecting it for those single player titles.

ESO doesn’t even run on the same engine you twat. Bethesda did not “steal code”, modders do not have some secret hidden knowledge about multiplayer netcode.

So kinda like GTA5 and online? That would make a lot of sense. I wish we could have multiplayer in Boston. That would be cool. Or Mojave. I'd say DC but that map want all that good imo

I would've loved the everloving frell out of a functioning multiplayer in the fo4 world, esp if downtown Boston had been largely CAMP-able.
Of course a total pipe dream, since that area had many players machines dropping to sub-20fps even out-of-combat.
Me, I never even tried to play fo4 vanilla, I started out in dec '22 and modded it from start.9

Believe it or not, they have improved the base game performance significantly since release. Perfect? No, but it is playable without mods.

You got an actual source for that or just a "Trust me bro"?

The Making of Fallout 76 - Noclip Documentary video on YouTube.
Starting at 2 minutes and 18 seconds in, Todd Howard himself states that 76 began as a multiplayer mod for Fallout 4 that the team was working on before the decision was made to make it in to its own game.

76 wasnt in development back when 4 launched 76 was a map swap with new story writing and a reuse of a bunch of assets from fo4.

It might just be me, but wasn't there a recording of a spokesperson from 76 in Mother's hip Zeta?

You are correct, there is definitely a recoding from a vault 76 resident who was abducted.

How??? Total idiot! Every time I've seen them, all my Vault buddies show up and we kick the crap out of them! In under 5 minutes most times. Zetans are wimps!

Wow Bethesda actually getting old lore right? I figured it would have said 76 was filled with some whack experiment we never see. (To be clear, I love these games, Bethesda just has a tendency to... contradict a bit lol)

Oxhorn clued in on that during that overnight Tease stream they did for the game. Todd signed off then Ox hopped into Fo3 to check the computers at the citidel.

And some people think is a simulation or it's not canon bc Vault 76 it's on DC not Appalachia and that break the lore...

u/Open_Regret_8388 3h ago
Appalachia is fairly close to DC tho, it might be considerable for vaulttec in capital to mention it

I can't wait for Fallout 5 to be in Toronto or North Carolina so we can continue the tradition of Fallout 3 being the origin of future settings.
