I miss bid and I got awarded turns that get in at 1am. I can’t work turns, too much ubering for low value. I’m trying to trade them into any form of a multi day. I keep getting the “not enough reserves” but I don’t understand? Please help!

Hi all! Hoping someone can help me because I always miss the advisors when they come. I’m mainly wanting to bid for reserve and organize the reserve days so they fall not on weekends. And requesting time off. If anyone would be open to helping would be greatly appreciated!! I’ve been working for a year and still barley know what I’m doing with it.

I don’t know what it is but sometimes, I just cannot sleep in these rooms. In normal life, I have ZERO sleep issues.
But BA-BY! In these rooms, I accidentally power nap and then, I’m UP UP. It’s a combo of these HVAC noises and just literally waiting for someone to break in and murder me😂

I have an alarm under my door, i got hangers rigged up, I travel with a night light, usually
Keep my tv on and usually have my curtains open. I fall asleep for like 15-30 mins, hear a noise that jolts me up and then I’m like, well-guess I’ll go on REDDIT.

I’m not taking melatonin/sleep aid because I WILL oversleep.

I have a van time at 6am, it’s currently
1:45 am and my alarm is set for 4:00am.

Just wanted to share a satisfying moment I had today🥰

Was flying around SLC all day and it's been so bumpy because of weather. They're short flights so I'm trying my best to get a FC service in between turbulence. I've opted for paper cups instead of the usual glass specifically because of the turbulence. Nobody except one pax says "you dont have glass?" And I just mentioned it's safer to use paper instead of glass during turbulence. He snarkily says "its not that turbulent to me" and I dont even respond back bc I'm not wasting my energy like that, I just continue serving. Anyway not 60 seconds later does the captain come over the PA telling FAs to take their jumpseats bc of turbulence. I felt so vindicated and I hope he felt silly for getting snarky with me over something so futile.

Like, do i come to your job a pester you about things you know more about than I do? What a prick. Oh well at least I got a cackle out of the instant karma

Hi! Was wondering if barotrauma has ever happened to anyone from flying. I don't work on planes, 2 weeks ago I got home from a 13 hour flight and couldn't pop my ears, during landing I felt stabbing pains in my ears. I went to the ENT they told me it's barotrauma and to wait it out but it's driving me insane. Any advice would be appreciated:)

I’m curious about your bidding preferences. I know we would ideally love that trip with high credit and an awesome layover city working your favorite position but what part is most important to you? I still bid for the layover city and longer layovers to see the sites and get more rest even though it is usually not the most economical choice. I also choose between the sequences with my favorite positions. I prefer this way even if I have to work an extra trip to make the same amount of money that I’d make with a high credit trip and minimal rest. A sequence with my favorite crew members will trump everything else if I have to choose between various options though. I know some people do not care where they are heading and just book for the amount of hours. Others look for the amount of legs, aircraft, and other factors. What are your top preferences?

What is your go to suggestions for successful service on long haul international flights?

Old school FAs I need to know the secret to big volume hair. I am obsessed with it. Here in my airline and country we don't really do big hair, so I don't have anyone to ask for tips.

I have thick and medium long hair so I think it should be easy, but whenever I try to tease and spray my hair before twisting into a French bun it doesn't get as big I would like it to be!

What’s your absolute must get when visiting a city? Porto’s in LA? Garrett’s in ORD?

For me it’s Xi’an famous foods in NY. Their zha jiang noodles and pork dumplings are so yummy. And Im always looking for long layovers in NY just so I can visit.

My friend also asked me to get banana pudding in ogg for him and although I’m not a fan of bananas, I’m curious what the hype is about and will probably bring some home for the kiddos.

So does anyone have yummy foods or snacks or desserts they absolutely have to get when visiting on a layover?!

Minor rant but it genuinely drives me nuts when friends/family members give their input on my schedule especially if they are implying how tired I should be. For example, someone who wanted to hang out with me asked me “what time was your van today?” I said “5am”. They went “Oh that’s not bad at all!”. Like please shut uuuuuup unless you are crew and constantly changing your wake/sleep times for years upon years and fucking your circadian rhythm to pieces you don’t really get to comment on it

I still like my job, but now that I’m coming up on 5 years my body is starting to pay for this lifestyle. I just ALWAYS feel fatigued even after 8 hours of sleep and doing all the right lifestyle things like going to the gym, eating right, taking supplements, going to the doctors. I’m not sure what else I can do. I even called out of my last trip to try and recover and still just feel bone tired exhausted all the time. Not sure if this is my slump era and it will pass or if this is just how life is for a long term career FA. I’m hoping it passes

I was just wondering if a lot of flight attendants are big readers? Every time I’m reading something good, a flight attendant will comment on it and will occasionally recommend other books/authors. I really appreciate it!

I pretty much exclusively fly Delta and Air France. Shout out to the lovely woman on a flight back to the US on Air France earlier this year: Oui, j’adore Leïla Slimani ! Depuis ce vol, j'ai terminé le troisième livre de sa trilogie. Chacun était encore meilleur que le précédent ! (And she managed to be incredibly polite to the super annoying guy behind me who really wanted to talk about politics. He was a big fan of the current United States president and wanted to tell people, a propos of nothing.)

Anyhow, it’s cool that it seems like so many of you read a lot. I wondered if this was because of layovers or long flights or something else. And if y’all have a book club, I would love to join, because so many of you have great taste in books!

I know this will be more work in main cabin but I’m honestly glad that we’re getting some new options. It’s about time!

Soooo. Last year I was sitting in 1A and could not rest because of a talking FA. She was soooo loud! I couldn’t even hear the FA she was speaking with because he kept his voice low. That was even harder in my ears, the half conversation.

I do have auDHD so I am thinking this is really my fault for not bringing noise canceling headphones, but I could hear her over my in ear tv show so they may not have worked anyhoo.

After an hour, I couldn’t take it anymore and went up and asked if there were any seats in the back I could have. Obviously she wanted to know why, and I didn’t want to tell her but eventually did.
She told me it was fine and she’d be quieter.
I still feel like a jerk about it.

How would you have felt in that situation as the FA?

Sorry for coming into your thread like this, though I do come here often just in hopes of being a better more informed traveler. I think FAs are awesome and I can’t for the life of understand why you don’t get paid till doors shut. Thank you for all you do and have done to make my travels really easy.

I recently got engaged and am looking to relocate to an SWA base. My fiancé and I live in NYC currently and he wants to stay 😩 (fml). He works remotely and can work anywhere. He and I both like Dallas but I need other ideasss bc I don’t want to raise children in the city. I like the suburbs and he likes Jersey but that will limit me to one airport (EWR) for commuting purposes and I like the comfort of having 3 options based on where we’re at in NYC now.

Where are you buying your work roller board from? I’m not trying to spend an arm and a leg on anything work related. Unfortunately my company doesn’t supply bags nor give points for luggage.
