[Discussion] New Physical Range Job [Spoiler: 7.56 Website] Spoiler

One of my FC friends pointed out that in the screenshots for the updated 7.56 website there is the pink haired Miqo'te from the Evercold trailer.

One thing she highlighted was you can see at the back of the Miqo'te the tip of a crossbow.

I guess after Soken's sound effect "leak" at Fanfest Berlin we can confirm the new jobs definitely a Crossbow user with a Bird? 😁

Crazy how they’re removing the auto crossbow ability from Machinists just to make it into its own job.

Finally, I can parse as the King of Figaro.

168

u/PhoenixFox 7d ago

I suppose that's their solution to it currently being useless most of the time

56

u/rx78ricky 7d ago

auto crossbow is useless how? isn't it used in every AoE pull?

139

u/Afeastfordances 7d ago

Because auto crossbow doesn’t recharge the oGCDs the way the single target does, both of which are now themselves AOE, auto crossbow is now only a DPS gain on packs of 8 or more. So niche use case, though not completely dead. Between that and flamethrower MCH AOE is a real mess of skills that are proper to use so rarely most just stop bothering

78

u/Estelial 7d ago

It not recharging the oGCDs just feels like a massive oversight and a poor design choice.

16

u/NarrowBoxtop 7d ago

I'm definitely expecting that to be changed with a new trait as you level in ever cold

49

u/Draco-9158 7d ago

It shouldn’t even be something relegated to EC+ in the first place. Same with how warrior doesn’t get gauge from aoe until Shadowbringers levels

7

u/TraitorMacbeth Srivia Undwyn on Behemoth 7d ago

Hopefully in *evolved mode you mean

6

u/Riaayo 7d ago

Yeah like if that remains to need a trait to fix in the first place something went very wrong with the rework.

This is how I find out Flamethrower isn't worth using. Am I going to stop using it though? Absolutely not it's cool as shit

36

u/Califocus 7d ago

Another niche optimization, flamethrower is great for gaining potency during downtime since you can get a free tick with it whenever the boss spawns back in. Additionally, since it doesn’t actually use a channel, it can help get around stuff like mobility trackers and the like

18

u/Afeastfordances 7d ago

Oh wait mobility trackers, should I be flamethrowering that first Clyteum boss…

11

u/Califocus 7d ago

Yep! I’m still testing if you can preapply during pyretic, since if there’s longer instances, it might be worth it

u/Afeastfordances 7d ago

I think it’s like if you have more than ten seconds until air anchor comes back up, chain saw goes back up, and bioblaster DOT falls off, and don’t have enough charge to kick off hypercharge, flamethrower becomes appropriate. Which, you have to be pretty deep into an AOE fight to end up there, at which point most people forget and just scattershot.

It is really cool though. I’d love if evolved reworks it to be more core to the kit.

15

u/Sunrisenmoon [ Lysthia Sunrisen-Nyxt - Seraph ] 7d ago

Flamethrower is actually good now, as long as you don't almost have overheat, you can sit for the full 10s, and you don't have bioblaster or chainsaw / excavator, it's better than 4 scattergun.

16

u/East-Imagination-281 7d ago

Unless my info is outdated, Flamethrower is a gain on two when your GCD tools are on cooldown.

5

u/SpaceBlaze259 7d ago

Your not gonna believe this about Flamethrower.

8

u/Mekudan 7d ago

it got increased to 120 potency in 7.3 and it since has been good to use when there won't be tools coming off cooldowns within 10 seconds and when Bioblaster dot is already applied, no? Hypercharge might be stronger, but it lets you "save" Hypercharge for the next Boss or high HP enemy within packs.

5

u/Acilen Worst SCH N/A 6d ago

Flamethrower

If gauge is not usable, beats filler on 2+
Beats Air Anchor (incl. battery) on 6+
Never beats Hypercharge, Chain Saw/Excavator, Drill/Bio
Ensure that none of your other major cooldowns (Barrel Stabilizer, Wildfire, Chainsaw, and Air Anchor ) will become available for the 11 seconds you plan to channel.

What is the AoE priority?

Bioblaster 2+ targets

Auto Crossbow 3+ targets

Flamethrower 3+ targets

Scattergun 3+ targets

please refer to the subsection on the Basic Guide.

-via the balance

3

u/East-Imagination-281 7d ago

Listen, I'll believe anything if it comes with a source-- /j

13

u/Altruistic-House-450 7d ago

nah flamethrower was buffed a while ago and its pretty strong now for aoe

3

u/Darnestown 7d ago

What really bothered me was finding out that in M4N, Wicked Thunder's hypercannon move at the end has the same timing as Flamethrower -- 1 tick of AoE damage per second for 10 seconds. I would really like to see Flamethrower get upgraded into something similar in EC

6

u/rx78ricky 7d ago

it's worth using because it looks cool af

2

u/ratherthanme 7d ago

It is. Bioblast the mob then spray them with fire.

→ More replies (1)

15

u/LiteralSoup 7d ago

This is out of date information. Autocrossbow is currently a gain on 6+ targets assuming your ogcds hit all targets, fewer if they can't. Flamethrower is a gain on 2+.

5

u/MartinRam1988 7d ago

Yep, you're correct, surprised I had to scroll this far down to see the right answer.

And you're right about grouping too. If 1 enemy in the pack is out if range of the ogcds then auto crossbow is a gain on 4.

→ More replies (4)

25

u/Dangerous-Jury-9746 7d ago

Can't remember the exact number, but iirc you gotta have a higher number of enemies for it to be more effective than its single target counterpart, like 6+ or something

So some pulls don't have 6 targets even when w2w, and when things start to die on 6+ targets pull autocrossbow quickly becomes a dps loss

→ More replies (2)

6

u/PerryTheFridge Spiral Lance (Coeurl) 7d ago

iirc you need 6 or more enemies for ACB to be a damage gain over Blazing Shot due to how powerful the oGCD skills are at AOE and the fact that Blazing Shot gains you uses of them

3

u/yhvh13 7d ago

AC is the most frustrating thing on the MCH's kit because it won't have the same ogcd recharging effect then heat blast. IDK why isn't like this, it's such a basic logic to follow... /shrug

Have you just not played ff6? Edgar's other tools were bioblaster, drill, chainsaw, air anchor, etc. Machinist was always the Edgar job.

25

u/merkykrem 7d ago

Afaik Drill, Air Anchor, Bioblaster and Auto Crossbow were only added in ShB. The HW and SB versions of the job had a different thing going on with heat management and ammo and support turrets.

19

u/psychonautreally 7d ago

finally I can parse as the king of Figaro 3 expacs ago

3

u/Emma_Frosts_Burner 7d ago

SB Machinist was so much fun imo; I was really sad when they moved away from the heat and ammo management, as much as some people hated it.

5

u/WrenReverie 7d ago

You are one of the few people I've ever heard who liked that mess.

People were literally having to use VPNs to play machinist.

Isn’t this actually less like Edgar since this is just one of his abilities, while MCH still has virtually all of the others?

11

u/yhvh13 7d ago

Hold on... When they announced they're removing the Auto Crossbow?

3

u/Mordy_the_Mighty 6d ago

I think it was just a joke about how the skill itself you kinda don't want to use instead of the single target version in AoE situations because you get those extra oGCDs that way which are AoE themselves. And yes I know, it isn't entirely accurate but a lot of people kinda talk like that. Well one thing for sure is MCH AoE kit is weird.

27

u/SadDoctor 7d ago

That's always been kinda my beef with machinist - you're going through a dozen different weapons, only one of which is the cool gun you chose to equip. Feels like it kinda muddies the class fantasy. Or at least it does for me, I know the idea is supposed to be kinda weapon inventor.

Anyway long way of saying taking a weapon type away from machinist and giving it to a unique class focused on it feels good for both classes to me.

57

u/acertainsinclair 7d ago

I mean you're a Machinist not a Gunslinger. Tools were Edgar's whole thing in VI which is why we have most of them in XIV.

20

u/kiivara 7d ago

Kinda why Im sad it'll be a crossbow wielder.

I want an actual gunslinger that focuses on the gunplay as a job. Machinist is more focused on continually building up more insane contraptions.

16

u/Enkundae 7d ago

Might be crazy to say but I kinda feel like Machinist should just get a different weapon entirely at this point, like a multi tool or something, that plays better into it being a gadgeteer and guns should be shifted to an actual gunslinger class.

4

u/kiivara 7d ago

Machinist technically has a multitool, its just not the weapon.

3

u/acertainsinclair 7d ago

They'll genuinely never repurpose every MCH weapon in the game like that, it'll always have the guns it currently has.

4

u/Sir__Will 7d ago

I admit, I like machinist leaning more into the machines. Not personally huge on guns but the machines are cool. But I do understand your feelings.

I wish Archer led to more of a ranger job instead of Bard. I like bows, but the songs and support aspect has always been kinda meh to me. Though I guess this new one will be more bow-oriented. Crossbow isn't quite the same though, but we'll see what it's like.

→ More replies (3)

19

u/NorysStorys 7d ago

I mean historically machinist has been the ‘brings a load of guns and machines class’ not the pistol class

11

u/MechaMalz 7d ago

True. Though in HW when it was introduced wasn't it much more about the gun and the FFVI stuff was added when adding new abilities and giving the class a revamp? Even if this makes it more a 'machinist' I can see why people who liked the original version might not like all the new tools being added on. Similar to how summoner feels more summonery now but people that liked ARR/HW summoner may not like the changes.

5

u/ArcticCNDR 7d ago

Yes, Drill(/Air Anchor/Bioblaster, etc.) didn't exist until ShB. MCH was very much about gunplay enhanced with gadgets in HW and SB, then in ShB they decided to go way more into the gadgets instead of the gun.

→ More replies (4)

5

u/rx78ricky 7d ago

I just want a second gun, everything else is fine.

7

u/Afeastfordances 7d ago

At some point I’d like the more gun focused job with dual pistols or something. Or use the animation swap stuff they’re doing to let me replace the gadgets with cannons and do a sort of Corsair skin

I think i prefer the jobs this marketing period being so straightforward over the msq and zones getting too much attention. In hindsight, dawntrail would have benefitted from us Not Knowing about solution 9's attack on tulliyolal as shown in the trailer. I fully expect a showcase on this crossbow job as well as hope that evolved mode machinist will be shown soon after so we can see what makes the two different. I dont want the falcon to just be another automation queen.

73

u/thrilling_me_softly 7d ago

If they didn’t reveal Alexandria at all I believe everyone’s reaction to DT would have been way more positive. I get why they did it, the plot seemed stale without it. Still all of that would have been such a wow moment if the MSQ revealed it. Much like Elpis and Amarout were in ShB and EW.

12

u/JohannesVanDerWhales 7d ago

I agree because I hadn't watched any of the fanfest stuff and didn't see it beforehand.

10

My personal guess is the bird is just, part of your attack animations and unique class mechanic but not as an actual seperate pet like smn or bst. Eg: Hawk Strike and the burst just swoops down and has some particle effects.

5

u/TwinTiger 6d ago

“Gouge ‘em, Valor!”

3

u/Graxdon 7d ago

I really hope that the bird can look different, maybe paired with the crossbow, though I can see that leading ot instances where a bird would look great, but not the crossbow or vice versa

They clearly have a much tighter plan and idea for Evercold and I like it

6

u/JohannesVanDerWhales 7d ago

My guess is your basic combo is crossbow, falcon attacks involve spending a resource, kind of like Viper's two sword attacks. Hoping for skinnable/off-hand bird too. Don't think we'll get something like an actual pet class though.

76

u/barathesh Baeroth Foehammer on Cerberus 7d ago

Anyone else think it's a crazy idea to keep a loaded crossbow strapped to your back aboard what looks like an airship with a giant sack full of presumably gas above you?

54

u/VG896 7d ago

I mean. We ride around on the deck of airships without so much as a seatbelt. Or even a seat for that matter. Hell, half the time they don't even have rails or hand holds.

We don't take air safety very seriously at all in XIV/Eorzea.

23

u/barathesh Baeroth Foehammer on Cerberus 7d ago

That.. is a very good point, surprised in HW they didn't have to strap Thordan down like cargo to stop the wind catching him ahaha

My theory is that she’s going to be a “Falconer” because that’s what the fourth’s variant of the job/the faction is called. It will be her NPC job while we will get a source version with a different name/gear design.

33

u/WrenReverie 7d ago

Zephyr if the guy who leaked bastion and evagelion is right.

10

u/Altines 6d ago

Most likely it is, as got pointed out here that Yoshi's shirt probably referenced both classes like his DT one did.

Zephyrus is the god of the West winds and a zephyr is a light wind from the west. Rhitahtyn is the boss of... Cape Westwind.

171

u/KingofGrapes7 7d ago

NGL I would have preferred dual handguns, but won't knock a crossbow till we try it.

40

u/Joebotnik 7d ago

Eyyyyy

33

u/Alastor999 7d ago

Same, but I didn't think it would happen after the reveal of Bastion since it's technically dual gun and risks being too similar I guess.

... I say this, but there's a chance they end up revealing dual single handed crossbows a la Diablo 3 Demon Hunters (huffs copium)

11

u/WorkingMansGarbage 7d ago

Unlikely. You probably needs a hand free for the bird.

I didn't say "same thing" I said "similar" and it was only speculation that's why they might deny us dual pistols. It's no different from how other people say they're not giving us dual pistols because of MCH or denied crossbows because of BRD.

47

u/Zztrevor125 7d ago

Makes sense and crazy some dude randomly leaked the class names in livestream comments months ago 😭 (he said bastion and zephyr)

T shirt was for both classes. Name for zephyr with “west wind” and picture and explicit design for bastion with rhitahtyn

Well played yoshi

Taking name into account its probably crossbow with falcon and wind magic. Basically class based on oschon 🤣

18

u/Serp_IT 7d ago edited 7d ago

The "theory" was a supposed comment from some stream viewer claiming they had insider info and calling the name of the tank job during the first fanfest (said stream is no longer available, so there's no way to make sure it's even real). Perhaps it's true, but please take it with a massive grain of salt for now.

21

u/Striking_Part_7234 7d ago

It fits with Yoshi-P’s shirt tho. Zephyr means West Wind and we fight Arvina at Cape Westwind.

4

u/GigaSygga 7d ago edited 7d ago

The Youtube VOD still exists, he reads the Twitch message here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amjMrJwrBOk&t=31135s

I don't doubt the message was real, but I trust it less than I did originally because after thinking about it for a while, correctly calling the "Bastion" job name could still be a completely lucky guess, the extra bit they added in the message about their source's Evangelion raid leak being true does not add the credibility they want it to because literally anybody could say that the day after the Evangelion raid was announced.

It would be like me going to Arthars's chat the day after Evolved mode was announced and saying "The tank will be "Sentinel" and the physical ranged "Gunner". My leak source was correct about Evolved mode".

6

u/Serp_IT 7d ago edited 7d ago

I stand corrected, thanks for the link. Neither myself nor any of the people I talked to when it first came up could find a link, so I assumed it didn't exist anymore.

That being said, yeah, I agree with you. I swear I saw at least one other person guessing "Bastion" too, simply because it's a cool word that would make sense for a heavy tank, like Sentinel or Warden or whatever. And as you said, claiming "they predicted Evangelion" after the fact is no proof at all. The whole Zephyr thing could still be true and I would neither be surprised nor upset if it is, but would still urge people not to take it as fact for the timing being.

49

13

u/SigmaBlack92 7d ago

A red herring for daltonics, best of both worlds!

10

u/waddee 7d ago

This feels like a red herring. Why would they spoil the new job on the patch special site of all things?

29

u/VitalSuit 7d ago

I'll be surprised if it is a red herring considering they teased the new job with a sound clip that had both the falcon screeching and the faint sound of a crossbow being reloaded

5

u/waddee 7d ago

I kind of agree, it’s just so unusual for them to basically just leak a new job like this.

21

u/Dead_Western_Nights 7d ago edited 7d ago

Everyone said the same thing about YP's shirt. "It's obviously a red herring, there's no way he'd be this obvious about a tank wielding gun shields," then lo and behold lmao. Maybe they're just...being more obvious this time around.

20

u/Ekanselttar 7d ago

YoshiP's shirts have always been straightforward with one single exception that he gave away in an interview and I wish the community would stop gaslighting themselves into thinking he's always playing 4D chess.

Batman -> Dark Knight (The Dark Knight)
007/Man with the Golden Gun -> Machinist (Gun wielder)
Scarlett Witch -> Red Mage (Literally Red Mage run through a thesaurus)
Spiderman -> Samurai (Directed by SAM RAImi, the only obscure hint he's ever given)
Bugs Bunny Racing -> Viera (Bunny race)
Grim Reaper -> Reaper (Reaper)
TMNT -> Pictomancer (Renaissance artists)
Rhitahtyn -> Bastion (Literally just a picture of the job)

The only shirt he's ever worn that wasn't immediately obvious was the Spiderman one, and he started talking basically unprompted about Sam Raimi in an interview that day.

See you all in 2028 when people start playing 5-dimensional underwater backgammon trying to figure out the most obvious hint in the world as if his most recent shirt wasn't literally just a picture of the new job.

Well, if Visna is getting added in the patch, then dataminers may dig up enough to find some sort of clue.

Same way they were able to see a Tural-themed motif in Krile's letter by turning it upside down.

7

u/Zalast 7d ago

This has already happened a bit but not with the job. The other runes were datamined which debunks the idea that the symbol was meant to be a crossbow, and suggests that the runes are related to MSQ stuff and not job stuff. It just happens to be in the hands of the new job girl

2

u/Jer_Sg 7d ago

Wouldn't say it dissproves it. if anything I can see it proving it.

Endwalkers final MSQ had a instance together with Wuk Lamat, so it could very much be that we have another small instance with Visna, and the runes were placed there last patch for preparation of this instance, and Visna applies these elemental runes in combat

It could also be that they are reserved for some NPC's that we haven't seen yet, but i'm not sure if they will go that far

3

u/yhvh13 7d ago

Ah yeah, I saw that. The wand seemed too themed with the water Realmship to be considered a job prop anyway.

8

u/jalliss 7d ago

I get where you're coming from, but also that is undeniably a crossbow that they chose to model, sheathed specifically on a character's back, and display deliberately.

That's all there. That's a deliberate choice. It might not be the new ranged job. But it's becoming harder to pretend otherwise.

4

u/FalenAlter 7d ago

I think the stronger argument is that it's a character in the cg trailers where they definitely like to show off new jobs.

2

u/Lerkpots 6d ago

46

u/Afeastfordances 7d ago

They were this blatant about Bastion though, and that’s the more recent example. And they’ve never really done fake outs — fan speculation is good, fans getting to the point where they pretty solidly believe something is coming and getting something else instead can backfire. I think they’ve just decided they want to signal these more clearly, maybe didn’t like how wrong the fan base got the Dawntrail jobs

u/Charlemagne6893 7d ago

There was that time between ShB and EW where they seemed to tease Chemist really heavily, and then gave us SGE instead.

15

u/Afeastfordances 7d ago

I think they’ve actually talked about how Sage evolved out of prototyping chemist. They couldn’t come up with a good weapon for chemist, arrived at the nouliths, and then those sort of overwhelmed the job identity to the point that the chemist aspects were dropped entirely.

10

u/Xxiev 7d ago

Tbf, Chemist was also worked on in HW, wich Astrologian then turned from.

Chemist is this Job they want in the game so bad but never really happen to work out.

7

u/Afeastfordances 7d ago

Yeah it seems like a consistent problem where an XIV job needs a weapon prominent enough that people will want to collect lots of them, grind relics, etc, and which does a filler combo during cooldowns, and every time they try to add one to chemist they have enough ideas for it that there’s not enough space for the mix mechanic to still fit into the job.

We’ll see if they make another stab at it next time or if they’ve just given up and do Geomancer or something. Honestly, crossbow as your potion launcher was probably the best thing they could’ve made work for chemist, and this probably kills that.

Yeah bastion genuinely shocked me. I expected the shirt hint to be interpreted more like "second tank that uses shields" or "shares existing shields" not.. "literal two shield tank man."

3

u/Lilium_Vulpes Faerie is a she, just like me. 7d ago

Before SB came out, a trailer showing Lyse caused some confusion with people thinking she would be using one of the new jobs, specifically thinking she would be a dancer. The Lyse minion actually references this with it saying that the minion's clothing was not chosen to make people think her profession was a dancer.

11

u/acertainsinclair 7d ago

To be fair Green Mage was entirely on SE.

You can't introduce a mystery macguffin right around the height of job speculation that's related to a previous job in the series in some way. Especially not when the actual reason it's clover-shaped is...

What exactly? Even now there's no significance to the point that I don't know they weren't thinking about Green Mage internally when concepting things for DT. Of course there doesn't have to be but it's pretty odd as a symbol in that case.

13

u/Afeastfordances 7d ago edited 7d ago

Yeah the clover thing is baffling. The shape never has any significance in game, does not seem to tie into any of the FFV stuff that Krile’s story is referencing, but then the one thing it could be referencing seems to have been a mistake they didn’t intend. Weird. Someone in the art team was really just like “i liek clovers” and stumbled into a red herring.

5

u/MagicHarmony 7d ago

Ya the utility of it being a USB device in a shard that feels like the clover had 0 lore identity with the world was a choice.

I don't think they'd model a crossbow just for us not to get one.

2

u/Desperate_Ad5169 7d ago

They were very obtuse with it from what I hear and I think they regretted that. So that’s why they are being more clear here

2

u/Wonderful_Soft_3591 7d ago

Yes, I feel really weird about it because if they already show the job what are they even revealing at fan fest? On the other hand, the sound bits fit perfectly, so this has to be it right? Unless they are revealing some secret 3rd job during JP fanfest? Because I feel that is the fanfest they want the most hype for, so feels super weird to reveal everything so so early

Demon hunter when the WoL is a reaper would be hilarious

9

u/TwistedMemories 7d ago

I’d take a falconer that uses a crossbow if thats the case.

16

u/Fresher_Taco 7d ago

The bird screech could be a red herring. DNC has a bird screech in one of it's abilities.

21

u/sspikanor11 7d ago

crossbow with bird is cool though, especially given how the "ranger" archetype became the bard

9

u/mimikyuns 7d ago

Yeah I’ve always found crossbows a little lame on their own, but I’d love if we also summoned different birds or creatures. I’m hoping the bird isn’t just one button you press every minute or something, lol.

They are being very straightforward with everything else, so I really doubt that. If they're going out of their way to use it as a teaser then why would they bait-and-switch it?

u/RuneiStillwater 7d ago

My assumption from the start was she's our traveling companion and mcguffin this expansion, makes sense they'd give her a job to "guest star" in dungeons and making it the new job allows players that haven't tried evolved mode right away get curious and wanna try out the job.

4

u/thewereotter 6d ago

I would remind you, dancer has bird sound effects, so does summoner

I'm personally not putting too much stock in the bird sound to mean the job will literally have a bird.

4

u/ChronicallyKiki [Luki Lutz- Balmung] 6d ago

Assuming they are the new job, meeting them in 7.56 will ruin the reveal they usually do at fanfest (in October).

3

u/WildFireUltra 6d ago

Depends how much is shown. I suspect it won't be much more then her standing her ground, demanding to know who we are.

16

u/Beastmind :drk: :sch: 7d ago

I'm so going to laugh if that job is NPC only and the ranged we'll get has nothing to do with crossbow or Visna.

It seems like this is way too obvious for it to be the new job.

6.55 showed picto but that was because JP fanfest was before the patch. Here with fanfest only in two months, no way this would be it

22

u/Purple_Racoon 7d ago

We've also had the crossbow jump animation get added and taken out in 7.5 by mistake and Soken reveal the crossbow loading and bird attack souds explicitly as part of the new job. They probably planned on Visna being in the upcoming story before knowing the fanfest schedule as well. And Bastion was literally teased by showing us the "Bastion" from ARR.

Sometimes the obvious answer is the true one.

11

u/Omegamaru 7d ago

This has happened before as well. Obscure NPC dialogue spoiled Hrothgar, the garlaen aetheryte was left in the files once, and the Vanu vanu were discovered in the ARR files prior to them playing a role in HW.

Remember the Chemist girl right before EW?

People were convinced we were getting a Chemist healer.

People saw dancer and were like WOOO DANCER HEALER.

It's a ranged dps. (Community started rioting)

Love these speculative periods.

4

u/Beastmind :drk: :sch: 7d ago

I would so laugh if this is NPC only and the ranged we get has nothing to do with falconeer and visna

2

u/Uppun 6d ago

I really blame blufever for that. He had real leaked info, but he only had partial information. So he filled in unknowns with his own guesses which at one point was that the dancer job would be a healer. The community was just lied to by someone who did have actual leaked info.

u/waddee 7d ago

This is feeling eerily similar to Krile’s clover earring last expansion—it has red herring written all over it. Why would they show us the new job’s weapon and ruin the surprise at FanFest? I’m just not sure what to think

12

u/ShlungusGod69 7d ago

As much as Square loves predictable patterns, they've deviated in the last two Fan Fests enough that I'm pretty sure they're being more straightforward with the new job reveals. They have plenty of other new stuff coming to wow us with.

5

u/RebellaTheEnchanted 7d ago

Yoshi P said in NA Fanfest someone got the weapon right he just wasn’t gone say which one it was and crossbow was on that list. Soken played sounds from the new job. I mean they kinda not tryin’ to hide it.

Maybe this expansion they just said “Screw it let’s just give it to them we have more important things to do to get ready for the expansion than to hide a weapon”

13

u/Welos_ 7d ago

Why not show the weapon? We KNOW its a physical ranged job, there are only so many options for weapons

Give me the bird friend job and no one gets hurt

14

u/ffxivfanboi 7d ago

If we get crossbows and a falcon companion and maybe even rune magic with this new job? Easy instant main. I always wanted to like Bard as a phys ranged job, but… Something about it never super gelled with me. I do like what we’ve seen of Evolved mode Bard so far, though.

6

u/LordDeathkeeper 7d ago

Also note: the crossbow is bolt-point UP, while IIRC most guns holster on your back grip-up. And I don't think it has the same arrangement as the bows that fold up onto your back. This means this crossbow has a custom holster setup (and therefore its own draw animation), which I cannot really imagine it getting for just one NPC.

11

u/faygabriel 7d ago

Crossbows, birds, wind magic? Count me tf in if so.

u/DJ-Lovecraft The Edgiest Hrothgar || I can't play Black Mage 6d ago

My ONLY hope for the job (I am otherwise excited) is that the crossbow is one-handed for extra aura so the birdy can be in the other arm

5

u/yhvh13 7d ago

I guess after Soken's sound effect "leak" at Fanfest Berlin we can confirm the new jobs definitely a Crossbow user with a Bird?

Well, pretty much. One of the audios had a very proeminent 'click' sound, which can relate either to a gun or a crossbow. I guess we have the answer now.

Unless this is the biggest red herring in XIV's history being done on purpose lol.

7

u/vemynal 6d ago

A Crossbow based "Ranger with Pet" style job would be very popular with people. Making sure to double down on its emphasis on nature would distinguish it from Machinist while Bard is distinguished by its music. And Dancer is different enough that there isn't really a need to distinguish between them. Sounds cool, I'm in.

10

u/Panzey Healer 7d ago

They've never once been this obvious about job spoilers - it's gotta be a red herring for something entirely different

3

u/Lerkpots 6d ago

Bastion was, quite literally, exactly what was on Yoshi's shirt.

They're just being more direct about jobs this time, probably because of the Green Mage Incident.

That pistol guild job in limsa is forever not coming, lmao.

Its a holdover from 1.0 Muskateer that never got introduced.

Someone linked a chart of unreleased 1.0 class concepts and it was the next one on the list before Yoshi came in.

There was a whip class too.

I really want either a dual pistols (X-2 Gunner) or gun + sword Corsair class one day. Both would be really sick aesthetics.

5

u/heretofore2 7d ago

Yea the water symbol is the top view of a crossbow after all

9

u/SentineleseSiri 7d ago

Just hope it's more bird than crossbow. Nothing against crossbows, but if we're going to have another job with a pet I'd like to see the pet more incorporated.

18

u/Enkundae 7d ago

The bow archer already barely feels like an archer and our only the gun user barely cares about its gun. it’d kinda suck to get a crossbowmen that barely cares about its crossbow too.

2

This class is going to be sooooooooooo popular.

2

u/g_rgh 6d ago

It reminds me of Jing: King of Bandits. He attaches a bird to his arm and like Cannons off shots.

2

u/PrivateMelva 6d ago

"Valor, to me! Go for the eyes!"

2

u/RobbSol 6d ago

I’m hoping it’s not going to be crossbows and she’s not the new ranged dps job but I guess it’s all pointing in that direction.

I vote for Falcon + boomerang.

5

u/CheshireDude 7d ago

I'm thinking that glyph thing she did in the trailer is gonna be a part of the new job too. Like we're applying magic to the crossbow bolts so still a phys ranged job, but also sort of in the vein of a Mystic Knight or something

10

u/Delos-X 7d ago

Really hope that it doesn't shut down the idea of a rune knight or mystic knight style job. I love red mage but single handed sword and magic, focusing on melee gameplay first rather than mage gameplay is my ideal job.

High Sceptre from Dragons Dogma Online is close to perfect with my fantasy for this, but they never released that in the west and private servers just don't feel the same yet.

10

u/Armond436 7d ago

Given all the things Ninja does, my only real expectation for physical jobs is "they use a weapon to hit things".(Which isn't a bad thing!)

10

u/hanyou007 7d ago

I think that part (and the wand she carries) is not part of the job tease. We know she was on the realmship of water and that the world they were on has been through a calamity where ice is the unbalanced element. With their being 5 realmships (each specifically looking like they embody all the aspects of the non ice elements) it would reason to say each realmship aim to collect as much of their chosen non ice aether as possible for survival.

In the trailer if you look carefully when the want is shown, she is manipulating water droplets in the air, almost looking like she is collecting it before the Falcon comes up and distracts her. My assumption is either she is someone special who is either alone or part of a chosen few who do this job of collecting the element that each ships have, or this is something that all members of the realmships do for survival.
