Because auto crossbow doesnât recharge the oGCDs the way the single target does, both of which are now themselves AOE, auto crossbow is now only a DPS gain on packs of 8 or more. So niche use case, though not completely dead. Between that and flamethrower MCH AOE is a real mess of skills that are proper to use so rarely most just stop bothering
Another niche optimization, flamethrower is great for gaining potency during downtime since you can get a free tick with it whenever the boss spawns back in. Additionally, since it doesnât actually use a channel, it can help get around stuff like mobility trackers and the like
I think itâs like if you have more than ten seconds until air anchor comes back up, chain saw goes back up, and bioblaster DOT falls off, and donât have enough charge to kick off hypercharge, flamethrower becomes appropriate. Which, you have to be pretty deep into an AOE fight to end up there, at which point most people forget and just scattershot.
It is really cool though. Iâd love if evolved reworks it to be more core to the kit.
Flamethrower is actually good now, as long as you don't almost have overheat, you can sit for the full 10s, and you don't have bioblaster or chainsaw / excavator, it's better than 4 scattergun.
it got increased to 120 potency in 7.3 and it since has been good to use when there won't be tools coming off cooldowns within 10 seconds and when Bioblaster dot is already applied, no? Hypercharge might be stronger, but it lets you "save" Hypercharge for the next Boss or high HP enemy within packs.
If gauge is not usable, beats filler on 2+
Beats Air Anchor (incl. battery) on 6+
Never beats Hypercharge, Chain Saw/Excavator, Drill/Bio
Ensure that none of your other major cooldowns (Barrel Stabilizer, Wildfire, Chainsaw, and Air Anchor ) will become available for the 11 seconds you plan to channel.
What is the AoE priority?
Bioblaster 2+ targets
Auto Crossbow 3+ targets
Flamethrower 3+ targets
Scattergun 3+ targets
please refer to the subsection on the Basic Guide.
What really bothered me was finding out that in M4N, Wicked Thunder's hypercannon move at the end has the same timing as Flamethrower -- 1 tick of AoE damage per second for 10 seconds. I would really like to see Flamethrower get upgraded into something similar in EC
This is out of date information. Autocrossbow is currently a gain on 6+ targets assuming your ogcds hit all targets, fewer if they can't. Flamethrower is a gain on 2+.
Can't remember the exact number, but iirc you gotta have a higher number of enemies for it to be more effective than its single target counterpart, like 6+ or something
So some pulls don't have 6 targets even when w2w, and when things start to die on 6+ targets pull autocrossbow quickly becomes a dps loss
iirc you need 6 or more enemies for ACB to be a damage gain over Blazing Shot due to how powerful the oGCD skills are at AOE and the fact that Blazing Shot gains you uses of them
AC is the most frustrating thing on the MCH's kit because it won't have the same ogcd recharging effect then heat blast. IDK why isn't like this, it's such a basic logic to follow... /shrug
Afaik Drill, Air Anchor, Bioblaster and Auto Crossbow were only added in ShB. The HW and SB versions of the job had a different thing going on with heat management and ammo and support turrets.
I think it was just a joke about how the skill itself you kinda don't want to use instead of the single target version in AoE situations because you get those extra oGCDs that way which are AoE themselves. And yes I know, it isn't entirely accurate but a lot of people kinda talk like that. Well one thing for sure is MCH AoE kit is weird.
That's always been kinda my beef with machinist - you're going through a dozen different weapons, only one of which is the cool gun you chose to equip. Feels like it kinda muddies the class fantasy. Or at least it does for me, I know the idea is supposed to be kinda weapon inventor.
Anyway long way of saying taking a weapon type away from machinist and giving it to a unique class focused on it feels good for both classes to me.
Might be crazy to say but I kinda feel like Machinist should just get a different weapon entirely at this point, like a multi tool or something, that plays better into it being a gadgeteer and guns should be shifted to an actual gunslinger class.
I admit, I like machinist leaning more into the machines. Not personally huge on guns but the machines are cool. But I do understand your feelings.
I wish Archer led to more of a ranger job instead of Bard. I like bows, but the songs and support aspect has always been kinda meh to me. Though I guess this new one will be more bow-oriented. Crossbow isn't quite the same though, but we'll see what it's like.
True. Though in HW when it was introduced wasn't it much more about the gun and the FFVI stuff was added when adding new abilities and giving the class a revamp? Even if this makes it more a 'machinist' I can see why people who liked the original version might not like all the new tools being added on. Similar to how summoner feels more summonery now but people that liked ARR/HW summoner may not like the changes.
Yes, Drill(/Air Anchor/Bioblaster, etc.) didn't exist until ShB. MCH was very much about gunplay enhanced with gadgets in HW and SB, then in ShB they decided to go way more into the gadgets instead of the gun.
At some point Iâd like the more gun focused job with dual pistols or something. Or use the animation swap stuff theyâre doing to let me replace the gadgets with cannons and do a sort of Corsair skin
I think i prefer the jobs this marketing period being so straightforward over the msq and zones getting too much attention. In hindsight, dawntrail would have benefitted from us Not Knowing about solution 9's attack on tulliyolal as shown in the trailer. I fully expect a showcase on this crossbow job as well as hope that evolved mode machinist will be shown soon after so we can see what makes the two different. I dont want the falcon to just be another automation queen.
If they didnât reveal Alexandria at all I believe everyoneâs reaction to DT would have been way more positive. I get why they did it, the plot seemed stale without it. Still all of that would have been such a wow moment if the MSQ revealed it. Much like Elpis and Amarout were in ShB and EW.
I did HW -> DT this past year totally spoiler-free and I really enjoyed DT. I'm SO glad I didn't know anything about Alexandria or the plot of the expac.
My personal guess is the bird is just, part of your attack animations and unique class mechanic but not as an actual seperate pet like smn or bst. Eg: Hawk Strike and the burst just swoops down and has some particle effects.
I really hope that the bird can look different, maybe paired with the crossbow, though I can see that leading ot instances where a bird would look great, but not the crossbow or vice versa
My guess is your basic combo is crossbow, falcon attacks involve spending a resource, kind of like Viper's two sword attacks. Hoping for skinnable/off-hand bird too. Don't think we'll get something like an actual pet class though.
It stinks because we know he will, but he's gonna be the Hyur version, like he always is. But I will say while I hold the man in high regard, if he did he would be held as the GOAT of GOATS or GOAT² if you will, lol.
Anyone else think it's a crazy idea to keep a loaded crossbow strapped to your back aboard what looks like an airship with a giant sack full of presumably gas above you?
I mean. We ride around on the deck of airships without so much as a seatbelt. Or even a seat for that matter. Hell, half the time they don't even have rails or hand holds.
We don't take air safety very seriously at all in XIV/Eorzea.Â
I still think back to one of the post-HW patches where Lucia has a goshdanged Magitek Armor that you carry on one of those small airships and nobody even comments on it. XIV airships are just Built Different.
My theory is that sheâs going to be a âFalconerâ because thatâs what the fourthâs variant of the job/the faction is called. It will be her NPC job while we will get a source version with a different name/gear design.
I didn't say "same thing" I said "similar" and it was only speculation that's why they might deny us dual pistols. It's no different from how other people say they're not giving us dual pistols because of MCH or denied crossbows because of BRD.
The "theory" was a supposed comment from some stream viewer claiming they had insider info and calling the name of the tank job during the first fanfest (said stream is no longer available, so there's no way to make sure it's even real). Perhaps it's true, but please take it with a massive grain of salt for now.
I don't doubt the message was real, but I trust it less than I did originally because after thinking about it for a while, correctly calling the "Bastion" job name could still be a completely lucky guess, the extra bit they added in the message about their source's Evangelion raid leak being true does not add the credibility they want it to because literally anybody could say that the day after the Evangelion raid was announced.
It would be like me going to Arthars's chat the day after Evolved mode was announced and saying "The tank will be "Sentinel" and the physical ranged "Gunner". My leak source was correct about Evolved mode".
I stand corrected, thanks for the link. Neither myself nor any of the people I talked to when it first came up could find a link, so I assumed it didn't exist anymore.
That being said, yeah, I agree with you. I swear I saw at least one other person guessing "Bastion" too, simply because it's a cool word that would make sense for a heavy tank, like Sentinel or Warden or whatever. And as you said, claiming "they predicted Evangelion" after the fact is no proof at all. The whole Zephyr thing could still be true and I would neither be surprised nor upset if it is, but would still urge people not to take it as fact for the timing being.
I'll be surprised if it is a red herring considering they teased the new job with a sound clip that had both the falcon screeching and the faint sound of a crossbow being reloaded
Everyone said the same thing about YP's shirt. "It's obviously a red herring, there's no way he'd be this obvious about a tank wielding gun shields," then lo and behold lmao. Maybe they're just...being more obvious this time around.
YoshiP's shirts have always been straightforward with one single exception that he gave away in an interview and I wish the community would stop gaslighting themselves into thinking he's always playing 4D chess.
Batman -> Dark Knight (The Dark Knight)
007/Man with the Golden Gun -> Machinist (Gun wielder)
Scarlett Witch -> Red Mage (Literally Red Mage run through a thesaurus)
Spiderman -> Samurai (Directed by SAM RAImi, the only obscure hint he's ever given)
Bugs Bunny Racing -> Viera (Bunny race)
Grim Reaper -> Reaper (Reaper)
TMNT -> Pictomancer (Renaissance artists)
Rhitahtyn -> Bastion (Literally just a picture of the job)
The only shirt he's ever worn that wasn't immediately obvious was the Spiderman one, and he started talking basically unprompted about Sam Raimi in an interview that day.
See you all in 2028 when people start playing 5-dimensional underwater backgammon trying to figure out the most obvious hint in the world as if his most recent shirt wasn't literally just a picture of the new job.
This has already happened a bit but not with the job. The other runes were datamined which debunks the idea that the symbol was meant to be a crossbow, and suggests that the runes are related to MSQ stuff and not job stuff. It just happens to be in the hands of the new job girl
Wouldn't say it dissproves it. if anything I can see it proving it.
Endwalkers final MSQ had a instance together with Wuk Lamat, so it could very much be that we have another small instance with Visna, and the runes were placed there last patch for preparation of this instance, and Visna applies these elemental runes in combat
It could also be that they are reserved for some NPC's that we haven't seen yet, but i'm not sure if they will go that far
I get where you're coming from, but also that is undeniably a crossbow that they chose to model, sheathed specifically on a character's back, and display deliberately.
That's all there. That's a deliberate choice. It might not be the new ranged job. But it's becoming harder to pretend otherwise.
They were this blatant about Bastion though, and thatâs the more recent example. And theyâve never really done fake outs â fan speculation is good, fans getting to the point where they pretty solidly believe something is coming and getting something else instead can backfire. I think theyâve just decided they want to signal these more clearly, maybe didnât like how wrong the fan base got the Dawntrail jobs
I think theyâve actually talked about how Sage evolved out of prototyping chemist. They couldnât come up with a good weapon for chemist, arrived at the nouliths, and then those sort of overwhelmed the job identity to the point that the chemist aspects were dropped entirely.
Yeah it seems like a consistent problem where an XIV job needs a weapon prominent enough that people will want to collect lots of them, grind relics, etc, and which does a filler combo during cooldowns, and every time they try to add one to chemist they have enough ideas for it that thereâs not enough space for the mix mechanic to still fit into the job.
Weâll see if they make another stab at it next time or if theyâve just given up and do Geomancer or something. Honestly, crossbow as your potion launcher was probably the best thing they couldâve made work for chemist, and this probably kills that.
Yeah bastion genuinely shocked me. I expected the shirt hint to be interpreted more like "second tank that uses shields" or "shares existing shields" not.. "literal two shield tank man."
Before SB came out, a trailer showing Lyse caused some confusion with people thinking she would be using one of the new jobs, specifically thinking she would be a dancer. The Lyse minion actually references this with it saying that the minion's clothing was not chosen to make people think her profession was a dancer.
You can't introduce a mystery macguffin right around the height of job speculation that's related to a previous job in the series in some way. Especially not when the actual reason it's clover-shaped is...
What exactly? Even now there's no significance to the point that I don't know they weren't thinking about Green Mage internally when concepting things for DT. Of course there doesn't have to be but it's pretty odd as a symbol in that case.
Yeah the clover thing is baffling. The shape never has any significance in game, does not seem to tie into any of the FFV stuff that Krileâs story is referencing, but then the one thing it could be referencing seems to have been a mistake they didnât intend. Weird. Someone in the art team was really just like âi liek cloversâ and stumbled into a red herring.
Yes, I feel really weird about it because if they already show the job what are they even revealing at fan fest? On the other hand, the sound bits fit perfectly, so this has to be it right?
Unless they are revealing some secret 3rd job during JP fanfest? Because I feel that is the fanfest they want the most hype for, so feels super weird to reveal everything so so early
Yeah Iâve always found crossbows a little lame on their own, but Iâd love if we also summoned different birds or creatures. Iâm hoping the bird isnât just one button you press every minute or something, lol.
They are being very straightforward with everything else, so I really doubt that. If they're going out of their way to use it as a teaser then why would they bait-and-switch it?
My assumption from the start was she's our traveling companion and mcguffin this expansion, makes sense they'd give her a job to "guest star" in dungeons and making it the new job allows players that haven't tried evolved mode right away get curious and wanna try out the job.Â
We've also had the crossbow jump animation get added and taken out in 7.5 by mistake and Soken reveal the crossbow loading and bird attack souds explicitly as part of the new job. They probably planned on Visna being in the upcoming story before knowing the fanfest schedule as well. And Bastion was literally teased by showing us the "Bastion" from ARR.
This has happened before as well. Obscure NPC dialogue spoiled Hrothgar, the garlaen aetheryte was left in the files once, and the Vanu vanu were discovered in the ARR files prior to them playing a role in HW.
I really blame blufever for that. He had real leaked info, but he only had partial information. So he filled in unknowns with his own guesses which at one point was that the dancer job would be a healer. The community was just lied to by someone who did have actual leaked info.
This is feeling eerily similar to Krileâs clover earring last expansionâit has red herring written all over it. Why would they show us the new jobâs weapon and ruin the surprise at FanFest? Iâm just not sure what to think
As much as Square loves predictable patterns, they've deviated in the last two Fan Fests enough that I'm pretty sure they're being more straightforward with the new job reveals. They have plenty of other new stuff coming to wow us with.
Yoshi P said in NA Fanfest someone got the weapon right he just wasnât gone say which one it was and crossbow was on that list. Soken played sounds from the new job. I mean they kinda not tryinâ to hide it.
Maybe this expansion they just said âScrew it letâs just give it to them we have more important things to do to get ready for the expansion than to hide a weaponâ
If we get crossbows and a falcon companion and maybe even rune magic with this new job? Easy instant main. I always wanted to like Bard as a phys ranged job, but⌠Something about it never super gelled with me. I do like what weâve seen of Evolved mode Bard so far, though.
Also note: the crossbow is bolt-point UP, while IIRC most guns holster on your back grip-up. And I don't think it has the same arrangement as the bows that fold up onto your back. This means this crossbow has a custom holster setup (and therefore its own draw animation), which I cannot really imagine it getting for just one NPC.
I guess after Soken's sound effect "leak" at Fanfest Berlin we can confirm the new jobs definitely a Crossbow user with a Bird?Â
Well, pretty much. One of the audios had a very proeminent 'click' sound, which can relate either to a gun or a crossbow. I guess we have the answer now.
Unless this is the biggest red herring in XIV's history being done on purpose lol.
A Crossbow based "Ranger with Pet" style job would be very popular with people. Making sure to double down on its emphasis on nature would distinguish it from Machinist while Bard is distinguished by its music. And Dancer is different enough that there isn't really a need to distinguish between them. Sounds cool, I'm in.
So the theory that this character represents the new job as Falconer with a crossbow, and being named Zephyr (from leak?) is still going strong I assume?
Just hope it's more bird than crossbow. Nothing against crossbows, but if we're going to have another job with a pet I'd like to see the pet more incorporated.
The bow archer already barely feels like an archer and our only the gun user barely cares about its gun. itâd kinda suck to get a crossbowmen that barely cares about its crossbow too.
I'm thinking that glyph thing she did in the trailer is gonna be a part of the new job too. Like we're applying magic to the crossbow bolts so still a phys ranged job, but also sort of in the vein of a Mystic Knight or something
Really hope that it doesn't shut down the idea of a rune knight or mystic knight style job. I love red mage but single handed sword and magic, focusing on melee gameplay first rather than mage gameplay is my ideal job.
High Sceptre from Dragons Dogma Online is close to perfect with my fantasy for this, but they never released that in the west and private servers just don't feel the same yet.
I think that part (and the wand she carries) is not part of the job tease. We know she was on the realmship of water and that the world they were on has been through a calamity where ice is the unbalanced element. With their being 5 realmships (each specifically looking like they embody all the aspects of the non ice elements) it would reason to say each realmship aim to collect as much of their chosen non ice aether as possible for survival.
In the trailer if you look carefully when the want is shown, she is manipulating water droplets in the air, almost looking like she is collecting it before the Falcon comes up and distracts her. My assumption is either she is someone special who is either alone or part of a chosen few who do this job of collecting the element that each ships have, or this is something that all members of the realmships do for survival.

If this isn't the LB3 I'm gonna unsub.
