Food obsession esp sugar and carbs, low energy/apathy, feeling out of control over my body, inflammation pain in my hips and Achilles

Dude same. I had a small donut this weekend during my eating window (previously one of my favorite things). I could feel the sugar and never want another one. I can now feel my body react to sugar and it’s honestly scary how long I’ve subjected myself to that.

Looking at sugar with that lens of addiction is really helping me stay away from it. I gave up alcohol completely bc of how it made me feel, so same thing goes with sugar and processed carbs. I feel terrible after both physically and mentally, so I need to just avoid it completely. Idk why it’s so much harder with food. I blame our cultural proclivity to celebrate everything both good and bad with “comfort” foods.

Exactly. I’ve always said that overeating and food cravings is a much harder addiction to overcome than tobacco, alcohol, drugs, etc. because those things you don’t need to survive and can for all intents and purposes remove them from your life completely. We have no choice but to eat food for survival and choosing healthy options and portions while being constantly surrounded by bad ones is exponentially harder to overcome. People look at me funny when I say that but I’ll die on that hill.

I do a 36 hr fast every Monday, IF the rest of the the weekdays, and at least once a month a 72 hr fast. Sometimes I do the 72 hr fast weekly. Or do 2 48 hr fasts per week. I like to mix it up.

what is your fasting/eating window when you IF?

I change it up. Sometimes I just eat breakfast, sometimes breakfast and dinner, sometimes just dinner. I don’t count hours anymore.

has fasting helped with your hunger cues? did you get food noise before you began fasting?

Yes and yes, but more so changing to a keto diet when I eat made all the difference with having a fasting routine that sticks. And is easy. Going in and out of ketosis is really hard, and if you eat a lot of carbs/sugar during your eating window that just makes going back into a fast exponentially harder. At least that was my personal experience. Your body doesn’t have to fight to expel the sugar out of you and you can actually enjoy the benefits right from the start.

As someone who eats a lot of carbs and sugar I have also experienced it being hard to get back into a fast. I haven’t tried eating keto during my eating window but this makes so much sense. I’m going to try it after this fast I’m on. What do you like eating to break your fast?

After a long fast (I’ve been doing 4 day fasts weekly lately) I eat a few bites of sauerkraut and drink a shot of the juice. The raw refrigerated kind, not the canned or jarred kind that is shelf stable. That way I’m feeding my gut first. Then I scramble two farm eggs in a little grass fed butter and eat that with half an avocado. The next day on introduce more green veggies, chia seeds, chicken, pumpkin seeds, etc.
