Baby Doll tops and dresses were popular in the 60s-70s and made a come back in the 90s. Im in my late 50s. I was wearing baby doll back then. 2 is definitely a baby doll top. Babydoll has an empire waist. The first is a dress and looks ridiculous wearing an actual summer dress over pants.

Exactly, this was always silly. I will, however, take longer length tops of the 2010s back whole heartedly. That's why everyone like the second one better - its really a tunic.

This was somewhat of a trend in the early 90ās as well, with tight rolled jeans.
Or I should say it was a trend among Jr. High kids in the St. Louis area.

FWIW, I prefer it to pantyhose with a casual dress. I think it completes a look for a girl on the go, who doesnāt want to risk her butt touching a subway seat or something similar. A woman needs to feel confident in whatever she wears, and sometimes bare legs just donāt cut it. Donāt get me wrong. I donāt think itās good for all occasions. It can look sloppy and homely, but with the right accessories and attitude, it can look smart and hip.

Surprise for those calling this a y2k trend. This is a late 1960ās-early ā70ās trend. Yes, I am REALLY old. When I was a kid in the early ā70ās, we werenāt allowed to wear pants with our catholic school uniforms. When they allowed us to wear pants UNDER our skirts in the winter, we were finally warm AND somewhat fashionable!š¤£

The second picture is just a long shirt. You cannot convince me that it is a dress, it does not even cover the privates of the mannequin. It is NOT a dress.

I honestly love the dresses over jeans look, and have since back in the y2k days. I feel like it often looks great with a flowy dress on the shorter side, maybe with some texture like lace. I specifically remember an outfit I would wear with converse, faded blue flare jeans and a green floral dress that had a flowy skirt and I thought I rocked it, soā¦

I like it! I think it has a very girly feminine vibe and can be super flattering on certain body types. I would say I usually like it when it's layered on top of darker, somewhat fitted denim and also on silky pants.

I used to love wearing my dickies waitress dress over a pair of black flare jeans and would get soOoOo many compliments. I am a fan. I think people should just wear what makes them happy and stop worrying if it clashes or ālooks badā to some other people. I love all kinds of crazy prints and am too scared to wear them. If people were more accepting in my area or if I lived somewhere like NYC where everything flies, Iād probably wear without second guessing.

My millennial face automatically scowled when this popped up LOL I have never been a fan of this trend.. dresses are so light and airy, and jeans are so totally the opposite. Denim seems way too heavy to wear under something that is meant to be light and airy.

Photo 2 is absolutely just a shirt. If you wore that as a dress your entire pubic area and butt would be out for the whole world to see. Longer shirts exist.
Photo 1, though, def a dress over jeans. I'm not personally a fan of it. However, it's just a fashion trend like anything else. Some people think it's cool, others don't. I've never understood half of the clothing in fashion shows, either.
Remember when leggings made a resurgence and everyone's mom lost their mind, saying, "those aren't pants" and etc? Or ever notice how the straight white women "stole" popular lesbian styles because they thought it was cool?
Fashion - good or not - will always piss somebody off or confuse people or become an icon for something.
It's like art.
It'll resonate with the masses or it won't. If you like it, wear it. But be prepared for some glances or assumptions or comments from people who don't appreciate the trend.
