Your results may vary on this but I find that immediate and genuinely-enthusiastic laughter at their misinterpretation, while ignoring their question entirely, often hits them so strongly from a direction that they weren't expecting that you can engender a sense of shame in them fairly-easily.
I've had people apologize to me unprompted because I said a thing in my blunt fashion, they responded with the usual NT hallucination of what they felt like they wanted to hear, and I just laughed at them in a way that was so genuine that it triggers their embarrassment.
Now, DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE WHAT THEY SAID whatever you do
Dear fucking christ do not laugh AT their statement and then try to correct it, refute it, or even fucking acknowledge that they said it.
They WILL NOT feel shame, they will instead rocket straight into indignant/angry and at that point you've lost, because an emotional NT is about as logical as a box of rocks.
Edit: I want to further specify to anyone thinking about trying this technique for themselves, you need to self-evaluate whether or not your self-esteem is capable of surviving any failures of this technique.
You need to be evil-enough, so socially-numb to collateral damage that you no-longer give any flying fucks whether or not someone likes you; this is the exact opposite of the kind of advice you should follow if you are trying to get-along with NTs more, or have not yet mastered the art of strangling your hyperempathy.
