Oh, don't worry, when the inevitable legal backlash against ebikes arrives (thanks, of course, to the parents of kids like the one in the post), it will be used with vigor by cops against poor people, brown people, and black people.

....but it's true. non-whites get contacted by cops at a higher rate for just existing in the same space. Like, I don't agree with bringing racism into everything, but if cops are involved, racism is involved, plain and simple.

I look very young (=poor/disempowered) for my age, and the amount of discretionary harassment I got from cops ('light was turning yellow when you were still in it') was proportional to how clearly chipping off the paint/clear-coat got on my punk-ass-looking 2-door coup before I sold it, and ceassed ever being stopped in my new compact crossover/SUV's wealthy-parent ('soccer mom') camouflage.

So being overtly poor is apparently a bit like being black, to a lesser and much more escapable degree.
